3 UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year PURPOSE: The University of West Alabama s Tutwiler Educator of the Year Award seeks annually to honor and recognize excellence in education by identifying outstanding educators in the areas of: o Teacher (P-12) Early Childhood/Elementary Education Secondary Education o Counselor o Library Media Specialist o Instructional Leader ELIGIBILTY: The University of West Alabama s Tutwiler Educator of the Year Award is open to any educator (teacher, library media specialist, counselor, or instructional leader) whose major responsibility is to work with children in a P-12 setting. HONOR and AWARD for the UWA Tutwiler EDUCATOR of the Year: $500 Cash Award $250 Classroom Supply/Professional Development Stipend UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year Plaque Recognition at the annual school luncheon 3
4 The Selection Process 1. The University of West Alabama will establish the selection committee for the UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year Award. The Dean of the College of Education will appoint a diverse selection committee. Representation will include persons from the following: University Faculty (2) Principals (2) Teachers (2) Community Representatives (2) 2. An evaluation rubric will be utilized to score each nominee s application packet. 3. The Committee will select the winners of the UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year Award for each area (teacher (early childhood/elementary and secondary), counselor, library media specialist, and instructional leader). 4
5 Timeline for Selection March Promotional campaign of UWA Tutwiler Educator of the Year Award March Applications distribution via April 1 Completed Electronic Applications Due 2 (two) Letters of Recommendation (uploaded electronically by applicant at the time of application.)
