Pre-installation notes At this stage of the installation process for Memory Booster for Networks, it is assumed that you have already followed the procedures in GUIDE1 and GUIDE 2 covering the deployment of a SQL Server instance and the Memory Booster application installation on your server. REMINDER Memory Booster uses a thin client model for deployment on a network. On all workstations which will run Memory Booster, you will need to install one or two small msi files and you will also need to set up a file share on the server and a shortcut on each workstation to an executable file residing in the root of the share. There are 4 steps to follow in this Guide 1. Check for SQL Server Native Client 10.0 driver and install from CD if not present. 2. Install Memory Booster Thin Client software. 3. Create a Share on the server onto the folder \Memory Booster Network\ 4. Create shortcuts as required within the Share and drag them to the workstation desktop. See Chapter 2 below for details: Installation Guide for Memory Booster Thin Client Page 3

2. Installing Memory Booster Thin Client software onto each workstation Before you start, go to the appropriate menu page on the Memory Booster Setup menu (see picture below) and look at the message

Installing Memory Booster Thin Client software onto each workstation Before you start, go to the appropriate menu page on the Memory Booster Setup menu (see picture below) and look at the message displayed in the information box (arrowed in orange) which tells you whether you have the correct ADO driver installed on your workstations. 1. If you don t have the driver called SQL Server Native Client 10.0 then please ensure that you install it on the workstation either directly from the CD (see the 32bit and 64 bit driver install options further down the menu page) or by copying the driver from the CD and distributing it a different way. On the CD the full path to the 32 bit and 64 bit Native Client drivers are: ROOT:\SQLNCLx32\sqlncli.msi ROOT:\SQLNCLx64\sqlncli.msi 2. Having ensured that the SQL Server Native Client driver is deployed on your workstation, next please deploy the thin client package. You can install directly from the CD using the option Install the Memory Booster thin client software or you may be able to distribute it using Group Policy if this is supported by your network. On the CD the full path to the system client msi is located at: ROOT:\Client Package\ Memory Booster Client Package.msi Installation Guide for Memory Booster Thin Client Page 4

If, however, you intend to do Reports and Administration tasks such as saving archives, you yourself will need to have Full Control permissions on the folder called Archives which is used as a repository by the database archiving features. 4. On each workstation you now need to make a shortcut to the file MBAdmin.exe on the share you created on the server. Open the Share and locate the Memory Booster application executable file (see the picture below). Either: a) Right mouse click over the file MBAdmin.exe and select Create Shortcut.

Drag the new shortcut to your workstation desktop and rename it as you wish. or b) Create a shortcut by sending it to the desktop as in the picture below. Finally, log on as a typical User and ensure the shortcut to Memory Booster is available. Now try out Memory Booster by launching it from the shortcut.
