12 Explorer for SQL how log backup works - Non-persistent log saving process is pushed during normal backup window and saves logs at specified intervals. - VLB files contain all logs collected in the same period (using CPU friendly LZ4 compression) for a single increment in the backup chain. Have specific reports and statistics for SQL, handled by engine but not visible as separate jobs in the interface.

17 End-to-End Encryption protect data at source, in flight and on tape File encryption uses two restore keys, one for the user and one stored in Enterprise Manager, allowing restores even if the user key is forgotten. Uses a fixed AES 256-bit key, and adds an additional load upon data moving or restore by about 50%. For restore the user sends the enterprise admin the file s unique blob, based on this the enterprise admin generates a restore blob. Data in transit can be encrypted using SSL.

19 Application Aware Image Processing how Veeam backup works 1. Prior to backup the VM is made application consistent (quiesced) using VSS or the hypervisor integration tools. 2. For VMware: a VM snapshot is taken For Hyper-V: an internal and external VSS snapshot is made. At this point a backup can be made. 3. For VMware a SAN snapshot can be used to speed up the backup (BoSS). For Hyper-V the external VSS snapshot can leverage hardware VSS and for Hyper-V 2012 R2 the internal VSS snapshot will use a VM snapshot

20 Backup off Storage Snapshots (BoSS) speed up backup creation for VMware - Use storage snapshots for Veeam backup creation (up 20x faster) as it leverages CBT. - Support for HP VSA, LeftHand, 3PAR and P4000 and NetApp ONTAP 8.1 or later (FlexClone licensing recommended but not required).
