3 3-2-1 Rule Backup specialists agree that in order to ensure recoverability you need: - 3 copies of your data - Store this data using at least 2 different media types - Store at least 1 copy offsite - Allow for 0 errors by using automatic recovery verification using SureBackup and SureReplica

9 GFS Description GFS uses a number of cycles to maintain backups at different tiers: - Regular backup cycle (performed according to the specified synchronization interval) - Weekly backup cycle - Quarterly backup cycle - Monthly backup cycle - Yearly backup cycle

11 Tape Device Support Tape Support send files and backups to tape Support for sending files and backup copies to tape devices (using a tape proxy) with windows drivers, LTO3 and above.

12 Backup options To tape Backup to tape option archives to tape media backups created by Veeam Backup & Replication Files to tape option archives to tape media files from Windows and Linux servers connected to Veeam backup server From tape Restoring backup files from tape to disk allows to restore full backups or even backup chains to a repository or any location of your choice. Restoring VMs from tape into the virtual infrastructure allows to restore an entire VM from backup archive on tape. Restoring files and folders from tape to the original location or to another directory allows to recover files or folders back to the original location or another server, preserving ownership and access permissions.

13 Tape Server Tape devices are connected to Veeam Backup & Replication via a dedicated tape server. The transport services at the tape: - Connect to data storages and to tape devices - Retrieve data from the production storage or tape media - Deduplicate data - Compress data - Encrypt data (if required) - Send data to the target destination

14 Retention Retention is a user-defined period of time set to protect data from overwriting. When this period ends, the tape can be reused. To set the retention policy, you can choose between the following options: - Never overwrite data - Define a particular time period to protect data - Not to protect data at all

15 Offsite Backup There are specifics and best practices for backing up your data over WAN: Important that the target proxy service is running at the remote site. If you plan to move VM restore points over the WAN and slow connections, you can use backup mapping.

16 Resume on Disconnect Veeam Backup & Replication is capable of handling replication over an unstable network: - If a network connection drops for a short period of time during the replication process, Veeam Backup & Replication automatically resumes the dropped network connection. - The data transfer process starts from the point when a connection was lost.
