The college is comprised of three departments offers associate, baccalaureate, masters, post-masters degrees certifications f teachers other school personnel. The college also offers specialist in education degrees. The Department of Adolescent, Career Special Education offers programs in middle school education, secondary education, career technical education, health physical education, special education. The Department of Early Childhood Elementary Education offers programs in elementary education, interdisciplinary early childhood education, reading, library science. The Department of Educational Studies, Leadership Counseling offers postbaccalaureate programs in school administration leadership, guidance counseling, human development leadership, school psychology, community counseling. The is a member of the American Association of Colleges f Teacher Education Teacher Education Council of State Colleges Universities. All professional education programs are accredited by the National Council f Accreditation of Teacher Education the Kentucky Education Professional Stards Board. Special centers within the college such as the Center f School Safety, the Center f Leadership Policy Development, the Center f Environmental Education, the Center f Educational Finance Law, the Center f Gifted Studies, the Center f Middle School Academic Achievement, the Kentucky Academy f Technology Education focus effts resources in areas imptant to educational refm to West Kentucky. Teacher Education Services The Office of Teacher Education Services, located in 20 Alexer Hall, is responsible f the codination of all admission to teacher education processes, f the teacher certification rank change applications, f a variety of data processing functions, recommendations. Through Teacher Education Services, the provides all students enrolled in teacher education programs with a variety of field experiences in regular public school classrooms, including all required pre-student teaching field experiences student teaching. The office also codinates the MSU Kentucky Beginning Teacher Internship Program. Requirements f Admission to Teacher Education Student Teaching Upon completion of 60 undergraduate credit hours (juni status), students enrolled desiring enrollment in professional education coursewk beyond 2 hours credit must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Teacher education. In der to be admitted to teacher education, students must:. Provide Teacher Education Services with sces of tests to measure general academic proficiency. A person shall not be permitted to apply f admission to the teacher education program without first providing evidence of meeting the general academic proficiency requirement through any one of the following tests: a. ACT: (American College Test) a minimum composite sce of 2; b. PPST: (Professional Stards Skills Test) the computerized version, with established minimum sces as follows: Math (73), Reading (73), Writing (72); [NOTE: In der to be eligible to take the PPST, a student must have obtained a composite sce of 9 on the ACT. Absent extenuating circumstances approved by Teacher Education in writing, a student may attempt to obtain the passing sce on each section (reading, writing, mathematics) a maximum of three times.] c. GRE: (Graduate Recds Exam) minimum passing sce of 400 in two areas (quantitative verbal) writing assessment as required by the institution, d. SAT: (Scholastic Aptitude Test) SAT I (old) the minimum sce of 990 required writing assessment SAT (new) the minimum sce of 470 which comprises reading, mathematics, writing. 2. Have earned an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.45 on a 4.0 scale at the point of admission. This 2.45 minimum GPA remains a requirement throughout the teacher certification program. 3. Have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours with a minimum 2.45 GPA to include the following course wk: a. ENG with a grade of A B; b. MAT 7 ( higher level math) with a grade of C better; c. COM 6 HON 65 with a grade of C better; d. EDU 03 equivalent course with a grade of C better. 4. A review of the Professional Code of Ethics f Kentucky School Personnel a Declaration of Eligibility signed by the cidate affirming a commitment to upholding the code acknowledging awareness of infmation required f state certification. 5. Complete an interview eligibility ptfolio review with academic advis. 6. Successful review by the admission to teacher education committee of their college. 7. Have supplied TES with any other required infmation. Note: Students who have not been admitted to teacher education are not eligible to enroll in specific upper-level courses. Student teaching. In der to be eligible to student teach, students must:. File a fmal application with Teacher Education Services two semesters pri to the term in which student teaching is de- 65

2 66 sired. (Applications are distributed at scheduled student teaching ientations only.) 2. Have been granted admission to the teacher education program. 3. Have obtained admission to teacher education pri to student teaching interview. 4. Have a minimum 2.45 overall GPA. 5. Have seni, post-baccalaureate, graduate status have completed 00% of their maj subject matter field (middle school majs must complete 00% of both specialty areas). 6. Have completed all required professional teacher education courses (EDU 03, EDP 260, COM 372, EDU 303, SED 300, EDU 403, etc. see specific requirements by maj) with a minimum 2.45 GPA. 7. Have a 2.45 GPA in maj f which they desire certification. 8. Have met all applicable computer literacy applications requirements. 9. Have demonstrated teaching ability in field by completing all experiences. 0. File a valid current medical examination, which includes a TB test, with Teacher Education Services.. Have completed criminal recd check. 2. Have been successfully reviewed by the admission to teacher education committee of their college, 3. Have supplied TES with any other required infmation. 4. After one () unsuccessful undergraduate student teaching placement (undergraduate placement) graduate student teaching practicum placement (graduate placement) due to unsatisfacty perfmance, a plan f improvement may be deemed necessary (improvement plan) by the. If an improvement plan is deemed necessary, a written plan will be prepared reviewed with the student. No student may reapply f student teaching until the improvement plan has been successfully completed. Once the improvement plan has been successfully completed by the student, the student may reapply f admission to student teaching, if admitted, a new placement will be pursued. Successful completion of any plan of improvement does not guarantee readmission to student teaching. Any student who has an unsuccessful undergraduate placement graduate placement due to unsatisfacty perfmance may be refused readmittance to student teaching if it is determined that the student s perfmance/conduct during the placement was so egregious, unprofessional, otherwise grossly incompetent as to render consideration of an improvement plan / a second placement inadvisable. A student who re-applies is denied admission to student teaching on such grounds will be infmed in writing of the Admission to Teacher Education Committee s decision. The grounds stated here are not the exclusive reasons f denying readmission. A student denied readmission to student teaching as per paragraphs 2 above may pursue an appeal as per the College of Education Grievance Procedure. Any student who has had two (2) unsuccessful undergraduate placements graduate placements shall not be readmitted to student teaching. An unsuccessful placement includes, but is not limited to, termination of placement due to unsatisfacty perfmance perfmance otherwise deemed to be unsatisfacty. An unsuccessful placement may exist regardless of any grade (e.g. X, I, W, WP, WE, E ) assigned. (Effective August 2004) Note: The Education Professional Stards Board has adopted minimum grade point average (GPA) requirements f admission to educat preparation, entrance to student teaching, certificate application. When tabulating a GPA, a GPA shall be rounded up to a 2.5. All GPAs between a shall be rounded up to a 2.5. General Requirements f Certification in the Commonwealth of Kentucky Any person who wishes to be recommended by MSU f an initial Kentucky teaching certificate must have:. Successfully completed an approved teacher education program including student teaching. 2. Filed an application f certification (TC-), electronically the KECI, with Teacher Education Services, 20 Alexer Hall. 3. Obtained at least minimal sces required on PRAXIS II Content/Specialty tests Principles of Learning Teaching (PLT) exam. 4. Have a minimum 2.45 overall GPA. 5. Have an earned bachel s degree. NOTE: Requirements f teacher certification are established by the Kentucky Education Professional Stards Board (KEPSB). Students are cautioned that changes in these requirements may occur after publication of this Bulletin. Faculty: Coval, DeBella, Doering, Hall, Jacobs, Koenecke, Matlock, Musselman, Parks, Payne, Purcell, Seiber, Sims, Umstead, Vincent, Washington. The Department of Adolescent, Career Special Education offers certification preparation programs f middle secondary school teachers in a variety of disciplines. Areas are offered in business marketing education, family consumer sciences education, health physical education, industrial education, technology education, learning behavi disders (elementary school middle school), middle school education. The department provides min programs in athletic coaching, educational studies, family consumer studies, general special education, health physical education, social science. Bachel of Science, Bachel of Arts, Associate of Science degrees are offered. The department s faculty have all gained recognition f their quality teaching, research, service to the public schools. Most full-time faculty hold doctal degrees have extensive teaching experience. Several of the intercollegiate athletic coaches teach departmental courses related to the spts they coach. Upon completion of the certification, maj / area programs students are eligible f Kentucky teacher internship certification. Programs suppt national stards within the various disciplines are accredited by the National Council f Accreditation of Teacher Education. All programs are housed in Alexer Hall. As needed, other university facilities are used. The health physical education program makes use of the Carr Health Building athletic fields. The career technical education program makes use of various technology classrooms outside of Alexer Hall. Meaningful field experiences are a part of each of the certification programs.

The Department of Early Childhood Elementary Education prepares early childhood elementary school teachers. Students completing one of the programs of study will be certified to apply to teach in an early childhood setting in an elementary school. Administration Supervision Administration supervision offers graduate programs leading to certification f leadership positions in the public schools. These positions are school principal, supervis of instruction, direct of pupil personnel, school superintendent. Administration supervision also provides a nationally accredited master of arts in education specialist degree program in school administration. Guidance Counseling At the master s level two graduate specializations are available: () a Master of Arts in Education school counsel, (2) a non-counseling Master of Science degree in Human Development Leadership with an option f specialization in administration in nonprofit/volunteer ganizations, college student personnel, dietetics public administration, individually designed courses to meet specific career goals. A post-master s program is available leading to stard certification in school counseling to Rank I. An endsement of the provisional school guidance certificate f individual intellectual assessment is available as well as an option to extend from one level of school counseling (elementary secondary) to the other.
