4 X-Parc Car Park Management System Network Specification 1. OVERVIEW The X-Parc car park management system is based on an open networking platform, using Ethernet as the physical communication medium and the TCP/IP protocol suite for all communication within the system. In most installations the communication network is exclusive to the X-Parc system. In this case, the system integrator is free to choose the network parameters, such as the network number or the IP address range. However, there is a growing number of projects where the X-Parc system should be integrated into an already existing network infrastructure. In this case, the owner of the network must be given specific information as to the networking requirements of X-Parc, to allow for correct configuration of the active network elements, such as switches and routers. This documents provides for an overview on which network services and communication ports will be needed for X-Parc to operate correctly. 2. GUIDELINES For the best system performance at the highest level of system stability, the following guidelines should be followed: All devices in the same subnet: All X-Parc devices should be located in the same logical subnet. The field devices are automatically configured via the DHCP protocol, which is not routed by most routers. Implement V-LANs: If the car park system is spread over a large campus with routers and switches in between, it is recommended to configure a Virtual LAN (VLAN). The VLAN should consist of only one network segment with fully transparent communication between all network nodes.

5 Attention! Please take note that the system configuration tool which is provided by APE for the simple and straight-forward configuration of X-Parc systems assumes that all X-Parc units, including the server, are located within the same network segment (subnet). In case the X-Parc units can not all be located in the same subnet, the network configuration must be done by hand, setting up routing tables, firewall rules and other network parameters according to the communication needs of the X-Parc system. 3.
