1 Master of Arts CRIMINAL JUSTICE Master of Science HOMELAND SECURITY Graduate PROGRAMS
2 M onmouth University s Criminal Justice and Homeland Security graduate programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the twenty-first century. Graduates can look forward to being prepared for leadership positions in criminal justice, homeland security, and education. Whatever your area of expertise is, or whatever your undergraduate degree is in, you can play a decisive role in how both country and community are kept safe, secure, and protected. The University partners with the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) at the Naval Postgraduate School and has based its curriculum on its nationally recognized effort, which brings together institutions nationwide to ensure that course material is fully relevant and of the highest standards. The partnership provides unique opportunities for collaboration that advance the study of homeland security and participation in the CHDS University and Agency Partnership Initiative, and also gives Monmouth students access to the Homeland Security digital library. For more information about the admission process, visit or contact the Graduate Admission Office at Applications are accepted year-round. Graduate student housing is available; learn more at CRIMINAL JUSTICE The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice concentrates on supervision and administration, emphasizing courses that develop abilities in leadership and state-of-the-art information technology. It also stresses ethical and moral issues and an understanding of social responsibility to aid in dealing successfully with diverse groups. This 30-credit program offers a broad perspective on the justice system and its various institutions and processes. It develops the critical and research skills needed for problem solving and policy making in the profession. Core courses focus on criminal procedure, psychopathology of the offender, research procedures, the use of psychosocial variables, systems thinking, and the development of policy. Students may choose from homeland security track, thesis track, or non-thesis track options. strategic planning Courtesy of FBI photo gallery
3 Homeland security courses at Monmouth greatly enhanced my awareness of terrorist, cyber, and other multi-faceted threats and vulnerabilities. I use what I learned every day. My capstone course paper, Current State of Morale & Readiness of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, is now under review by the Coast Guard for implementation. Francis Gorman 15 Reserve Command Master Chief U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York Manager Point of Sale & Collection, New Jersey Transit Corp. Commissioner of Public Safety, Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ HOMELAND SECURITY The Master of Science in Homeland Security is an online degree that provides entrance into a variety of careers that address preventing terrorism, reducing vulnerability in our communities, mitigating the threat of damage, and recovering from attacks and natural disasters. Current intelligence identifies a continued terrorist threat to the homeland by homegrown and international terrorists. The increase in severe weather-related incidents has also become a threat to our communities. The 33-credit program emphasizes core competencies in areas including intelligence analysis, strategic planning, and comprehensive anti-terror strategies. The field of homeland security is a multi-dimensional response to putting planning into practice through a curriculum that has been developed by experts in this exciting and rewarding field. At the conclusion of the program, students receive both a graduate certificate and a master s degree in homeland security. Another way to further your knowledge and credentials is by enrolling in the 12-credit online homeland security graduate certificate. This certificate program is designed to provide specific skills to future homeland security personnel. Credits earned in the homeland security certificate program can be applied to the MS degree program. For more information, visit
