Z AMNET Communication Systems Limited, fully owned by the University of Zambia (UNZA), was established in 1994 as Zambia s first Internet Service company and one of the first in the sub- Saharan region. Over the years, ZAMNET has gained a vast amount of experience in delivering quality service to its ever-growing customer base. ZAMNET currently has five (5) full Points of Presence (PoPs) in Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingstone, Ndola and Solwezi, and eight (8) virtual PoPs, in Kalomo, Mazabuka, Choma, Lumwana, Luanshya, Chingola, Kalulushi and Chililabombwe,. Our Vision ZAMNET s vision is to be the leading provider of quality Internet, Information and Communication solutions. Our Mission ZAMNET s Mission is to deliver high quality Internet, Information and Communication solutions at affordable rates through a highly skilled and motivated workforce. Overview ZAMNET interfaces into Wananchi Telecoms, our upstream provider s network, through a Gigabit Interface to their router housed at ZESCO s Arcades Substation. The Substation is connected via an STM-1 fibre link up to Dar-es-Salaam where three routes to the Internet are available. The routes to the Internet are through EaSSY, SEACOM, and TEAMS on the East coast of Africa. ZAMNET also maintains a link through CEC-Liquid Telecoms for backup and routes through South Africa on SAT-3 and SEACOM marine cables. This provides redundancy and low latency to networks in South Africa.

4 Broadband Fibre Dedicated internet connections are deployed using fibre as the last-mile solution. This involves laying fibre cable from one of ZAMNET s nodes to the customer premises giving the customer end to end fibre access all the way to the internet. Unwired NLOS Broadband Wireless This is a modern portable wireless broadband solution that operates in a licensed frequency band. It is a Zero-install, plug-and-play solution that delivers high speed Broadband Internet anywhere within ZAMNET s coverage area. It also provides roam capability in towns where base stations are installed. Fixed Broadband Wireless Fixed Wireless Broadband addresses the demand for high speed Internet access for corporate customer by providing a scalable solution that is quickly deployed using wireless technology. There is no third party carrier involved to accomplish Internet connectivity. Dial-up Service This is the oldest but persistent service requiring a customer to have a computer, a modem, and a telephone line to set up the Internet connection. Features offered on the dial-up service include extra mailboxes, concurrent logins, and web-mail interface; this provides access to ZAMNET anywhere in the world. Satellite Internet Service ZAMNET provides Internet services to remote areas, which are outside wireless coverage and where telephone services are either of poor quality or completely not available. The VSAT service is an alternative access solution where ZAMNET is not able to provide service through the existing terrestrial links.
