Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings Examples of the sector trade, commerce, services Hans Erhorn Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik (IBP), Stuttgart Fraunhofer IBP Auf Wissen bauen
Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP): Experiences based on more than 250 Demonstration Projects from all over the World
History
A market development Programme has been launched: The Efficiency House Plus with E-Mobility (Pilot in Berlin) BMVBS/Prof. Sobek
A network is growing all over Germany: A prefab exibition in Cologne and various other partners FingerHaus Huf-Haus Bien Zenker Prof. Fisch/ IGS TU Braunschweig WeberHaus Schwörer Haus
Examples from the sector trade, commerce and services The sector trade, commerce, services has a share of about 16% of the total final energy consumption in Germany. The sector coveres a wide range of organizations: SME with less than 19 employees from the construction sector and manufacturing Office-like enterprises Hospitals, schools, public baths Hotels, restaurants Food industry Agriculture Forestry, Fishing Military services Trade companies etc.
Definition Between energy concepts a differentiation in the efficiency level has to be done: Low energy buildings (current standard) Nearly zero energy buildings (standard 2020) Net zero energy buildings (all energy demand of building systems covered by renewables) Plus-energy buildings (all energy demand of building systems and allpiances covered by renewables
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise in trade sector Office of the Future in Herten/ Deutschland (DAIKIN EUROPE N.V. und Zeller/Athoka GmbH) DAIKIN EUROPE N.V.
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) The vision and mission of the managing directors of the Zeller/Athoka GmbH, Thorsten and Achim Zeller, in concepting this object was establishing a modern office building with an ambitious energy footprint, fulfilling the demands of a nearly zeroenergy building of the future EC standards DAIKIN EUROPE N.V.
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) This net-zero energy building with a total of 1,335 m 2 (800 m 2 of commercially used space, 535 m 2 of office space) combines a high energy efficient construction with wellestablished systems of renewable energy like heat pumps and photovoltaic cells.
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) 2 No. Building Element U-Value Area [m²] 1 Brickwork Sandwich panel Partition wall Ground slab Roof Ceiling DAIKIN EUROPE N.V
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) The energy concept combines: air-to-water heat pumps for underfloor heating and domestic hot water air-to-air heat pump with integrated VRV technology (heating & cooling) VAM for ventilation and heat recovery Split unit for server room The minimized energy demand for the energy service systems is annually balanced by a photovoltaic system. DAIKIN EUROPE N.V.
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) The Monitoring Concept
Example 1: Small and medium enterprise (retail) The total energy consumption for the building service systems (heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water and lighting) amounts to appr. 20,000 kwh/a, which is an area related consumption of < 40 kwh/m²a. The PV system collected more energy than the building service systems needs. Around 50 % of the collected PV gains were used directly by the building service systems, the other 50 % were fed into the public grid and retrieved with a time/season delay. The concept has been successfully evaluated as a net zero-energy building in 2011/2012.
Example 2: From high consumers to lighthouses for the society 20 years of extensive research: German programme Schools of the Future Fraunhofer IBP Auf Wissen bauen
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Retrofitting of a school building which will generate more energy than it uses during the period of one year.
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools ROSTOCK + HOHENNEUNDORF KLEVE JÜLICH-BARMEN AACHEN DETMOLD ERFURT HALLE LEIPZIG COTTBUS ZITTAU DRESDEN STUTTGART+ STUTTGART MOSES BIBERACH HOHENKIRCHEN-S.BRUNN + MARKTOBERDORF Laufend/abgeschlossen In Vorbereitung
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Elementary school 443 pupils
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Main building from 1954 Extention from 2004 Pavillon (1954) Gym (1954)
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Current consumption: Heating: 140 kwh/m²a Electricity: 14 kwh/m²a Shall be drastically reduced
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Retrofit energy concept of the school Insulation: roof and walls U < 0.1 W/m²K, ceiling: Vacuum insulation panel High-efficient windows U < 0.8 W/m²K Low-temperature wall and underfloor heating (low Ex) Classroom ventilation units with 85 % heat recovery Heat generation: earth-coupled heat pumps High-efficient lighting and daylighting concept Renewables: Photovoltaics and solar thermal (gym) No active cooling
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Energy concept
Re-design of the facade New Existing
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools Energy supply concept Sun Electricity Geothermal energy Gas Renovation costs: /m²
Example 2: Deep renovation of schools The total energy consumption of the building service systems (heating, ventilation, hot water and lighting) amounts to an area-related consumption of appr. 30 kwh/m²a. The PV system generates more energy than the building service systems and the school appliances needs. The concept has been successfully evaluated to be a Plus-Energy Building. Nearly Zero-Energy Building concepts are successfully applicable in the trade, commerce and service sector.
