1 for Andersen Skylight Windows (Snap In Sash, 1999 to Present) (High-Performance Tempered or High-Performance Tempered/Laminated Glass) or Andersen Skylight Windows with StormWatch Protection (Snap In Sash, 2003 to Present) (High-Performance Impact Resistant Glass) Congratulations! You have just purchased one of the many fi ne Andersen products. Proper assembly, installation and maintenance are essential if the benefi ts of your Andersen product are to be fully attained. Therefore, please read and follow this Instruction Guide completely. If your abilities do not match this procedure s requirements, contact an experienced contractor. You may direct any questions about this or other products to your local Andersen dealer, found in the Yellow Pages under Windows or call Andersen WindowCare service center at Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time. Thank you for choosing Andersen. Impact Resistant Glass used by Andersen is not hurricane proof or shatter proof, and may not offer a high level of security. Proper installation of window and door units with impact resistant glass is as important to product performance as the glass. Every assembly and installation is different (windloads, structural support, etc.), and Andersen strongly recommends consultation with an Andersen supplier or an experienced contractor, architect, or structural engineer prior to the assembly and installation of any Andersen product. Andersen has no responsibility in regard to the post-manufactured assembly and installation of Andersen products. Using ladders and/or scaffolding and working at elevated levels may be hazardous. Follow equipment manufacturer's instructions for safe operation. Use extreme caution when working around window and door openings. Falling from opening may result in personal injury or death. Improper use of hand/power tools could result in personal injury and/or product damage. Follow manufacturer's instructions for safe operation of equipment. Always wear safety glasses. Weight of window/door unit(s) and accessories will vary. Use a reasonable number of people with suffi cient strength to lift, carry, and install window and door unit(s) and accessories. Always use appropriate lifting techniques. Unless specifi cally ordered, Andersen windows and doors are not equipped with safety glass, and if broken, could fragment causing injury. Many laws and building codes require safety glass in locations adjacent to or near doors. Andersen windows are available with safety glass that may reduce the likelihood of injury when broken. Information on safety glass is available from your local Andersen dealer. Andersen Head Flashing and Installation Flanges DO NOT take the place of standard window and door fl ashing. Unit must be properly fl ashed and sealed with silicone for protection against water and air infi ltration. Use non-refl ective fl ashings. Highly refl ective fl ashing tapes can raise the surface temperature of the vinyl to the point where vinyl deformation and product damage may occur. Do not apply any type of fi lm to glass. Thermal stress conditions resulting in glass damage could occur. Use of movable insulating materials such as window coverings, shutters, and other shading devices may damage glass and/or vinyl. In addition, excessive condensation may result causing deterioration of windows and doors. Andersen, the AW logo, and Andersen WindowCare are registered trademarks of Andersen Corporation. Consider structural obstacles both on the roof and inside the roof, i.e. pipes, vents, wires, etc. Locate rough opening from inside ceiling or roof deck, measuring from fi xed points such as vents passing through the roof, and mark corners. Mark corners on the outside by driving nails through the roof from the inside at the four marked corners. 44" 28" 24 1 /2" (622) (711) (1118) 14 1 /2" (368) 22 1 /2" (572) 26" (660) 42" (1067) 14" (356) 22" (559) 25 1 /2" (648) 41 1 /2" (1054) SKS 2724 SKS 3816 SKS 3824 SKS 3828 SKS 4616 SKS 4624 SKS 4628 SKS 4644 SKS 5724 SKS 5728 ROUGH OPENING USING STRAIGHT BRACKETS - Dimensions for incline curb flashing installations where straight brackets are required can be determined by adding 1/2" (13 mm) to the unit dimension width for vertical installations. For Example: SKS2427 using incline curb flashing - rough opening would be 25 x 25 (635mm x 635mm). (Incline curb flashing may require additional rough opening modification for header set back. Refer to flashing installation instructions for more details.) Unit Dimension always refers to outside frame to frame dimension. Dimensions in parentheses are in millimeters. Combination of window units joined together may require horizontal or vertical reinforcement. This reinforcement should be specified by a professional engineer. Use of incline curb flashing requires rough opening alterations. See product installation instructions for more information. 4 Rough Opening SKS 7224 SKS 7228 Nails Marking Corners

5 7. Remove Shingles and Nails Remove whole shingles and nails at least 10" back from rough opening area. Locate the nail holes that mark the corners of the rough opening. Measure diagonally from upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left, and adjust position of cor ners until rough opening is squared (measurements are equal when squared). Make sure the rough open ing remains between rafters/trusses and mark cor ners. Mark rough opening by stretching and snapping a chalk line from the corners just marked. 8. Cut Rough Opening Nail Holes (at each corner) Chalk Line (from each corner) Rough Opening Shingles Removed Remove nails and other obstructions to prevent them from being thrown while cutting. Make sure electrical wires, pipes, and other building components will not be cut or damaged. Wear eye protection and follow safety procedures recommended by saw manufacturer.
