His Honour commenced active practice at the New South Wales Bar in 1980, developing specialties in Trade Practices, Company Law, Equity and Trusts. Since Peter Bennie's time as Warden, the quality of music and the offering of Choral liturgy in the Chapel has continued to grow and flourish under the musical direction of Mr David Drury and the men and women who make up the St Paul's College Chapel Choir. Since the day when members of the Pauline community gathered for Peter's Memorial Service in the College Chapel, there have been many thoughts about the best way to establish a living memorial for Peter. With his family's approval, I hope that we shall see The Peter Bennie Memorial Chapel Choir Scholarships providing an enduring resource that will assist young men and women to give freely of their time and talent to sing the praises of God in our Chapel down the long years ahead beyond the present generation. I can imagine in fifty years and more the College Choir entering the Chapel, led by the Peter Bennie Memorial Choral Scholars. This venture will be conducted over the next three years and concluded during the Sesquicentenary year of The appeal will be maintained by the Warden through the weekly life of the Chapel and by regular update through Boomalakka. I invite Paulines and other friends of Peter to contact me with expressions of interest or support for this fund. 2 Letter to the Editor B OOMLKK Dear Sir(s) I am beginning to see that The Pauline, Boomalakka and nglican World all seem intent on promulgating my departure from The International Commission for nglican- Orthodox Theological Dialogue. Like the allegations of Mark Twain's death, all three reports of my "resignation" are slightly exaggerated. I did not actually resign from the Commission, but was informed by Bishop David Hamid, (at that time the Ecumenical Secretary of The nglican Communion) that I was to be replaced as a member of the Commission by one Rev'd Dr Duncan Reid, who is proving more than a worthy successor, and who is also a good friend. We attended the 2001 meeting at Volos, Greece, together. s the meeting concluded I was duly farewelled, but on the following Monday, the Secretary of The nglican Communion, Canon John Peterson, wrote asking if I would accept his appointment both as an "extraordinary consultant" and as a full member of the Commission until the conclusion of its present agenda, scheduled for 2005, or perhaps maybe even 2006 In that capacity I have since attended two meetings, one at bergavenny, in Wales, and the second in ddis baba, Ethiopia, and at both meetings, due to some most unfortunate events in the family of Bishop Mark Dyer, our permanent Co-Chairman, I have acted as cting Co- Chairman. So, the hour of my departure is certainly imminent, but perhaps you might inform any friends I have left, that celebrations appropriate to such an hour remain, for the moment at least, premature. I hope to be spared long enough to read future editions of Boomalakka and The Pauline correcting those previous erroneous reports. By the way, may I add my congratulations to the Editors of both Boomalakka (March 2003) and The Pauline, 2001, which seem worthy to stand in the succession of fine editions. Sincerely, MM THOMS Mornington Council Election results On 31 March 2003, in accordance with the College By- Laws, one clerical and two lay Fellowships became vacant. 4 B Outside Sydney s the College s sesquicentenary celebrations draw near, the Union is keen to involve the maximum number of Old Paulines. The Committee is especially keen to improve its contact with non-metropolitan members, and to facilitate contact between country-based Paulines who may find there are others living in their district. We would be grateful for any additions to these jottings on Paulines living outside the Sydney metropolitan area. Rob Busby ( , ) Northern NSW: The New England region is home to several Paulines. John Pidgeon ( ) has recently retired from running the family newsagency in rmidale to assist in the family s other enterprise: growing peonies for the export market. Tony Deakin ( ) continues in his architecture practice; some of his more elegant works may be seen in the new rmidale irport terminal, in the Cathedral Parish Hall and at The rmidale School. The School s strong association with College was recently reinforced by the appointment of Tim Hughes ( ) to its Council. Tim has taken over running the family property near Glen Innes while freelancing for The ustralian. Tim joins Rob Busby (now a resident tutor in College) and Pat Bradley ( ) (for many years Managing Director of New England ntimony Mines) on that governing body. lso on a property, near rmidale, is Brian bbott ( ), who is active in the rmidale and District Show Society. In Lismore Michael Dent ( ) has been practising Dentistry for many years. Bill Bailey ( , 92-93) has joined Oleo Industries, a seed, grain and vegetable oil trading company in Brisbane, with a factory near Moree, where he can also be found occasionally. nd somewhere between rmidale and St George (Qld) can be found Peter Kemp ( ), who after many years in automotive electrical manufacturing businesses in Brisbane and South-East sia, has returned to the servicing business he joined soon after leaving College. Nearby, Roger Buttenshaw ( ) has been teaching at Toowoomba Grammar School for many years as Deputy Head for the past ten. 4 OOMLKK Central Western NSW: Between Rylstone and Mudgee Sandy Yeates (1969 & 71), wife Vicky (both of whom returned to College this year for Victoriana!) and family have an berdeen ngus stud.
