1 1 P a g e. Fall 2015 Students - Registration Information NURS113: Nursing I and NURS117: Pharmacology I Dear Students: Welcome to Charity School of Nursing (CSN) and Nursing I!! Your first semester of nursing school is finally here. It is something that you have been working hard to achieve as you have taken your prerequisites. The Nursing I faculty and I want to welcome you to the school and our course. You may be feeling a little fear mixed with excitement, and these are normal feelings. In a few short weeks, these feelings will be forgotten as you are challenged to learn new material. In two short years, you will join professional nurses across the country in a profession that is challenging and respected world-wide. School orientation is July 30, 2015 at 8:30AM at Charity School of Nursing. Registration is on the first floor, and you must sign in. Please note that school orientation and course are mandatory. You may be dropped from the course if you do not attend. The course begins on August 18, 2015 for all Level I students at 7:30AM. Both Pharmacology I and Nursing I are taught in the Charity School of Nursing building at 450 S. Claiborne Avenue. Pharmacology I will be taught only on Thursday in the fall semester. Each nursing section is limited to 8 students. Please do not make work or child care arrangements until after you have registered for the course. Students registering for the 12-hour clinical days, especially the Saturday clinical, must understand that an absence is equivalent to two (2) days. Only excused absences can be made up, and family/friend events are not considered excused. You must ensure that the following requirements are met in order to register for nursing courses. Pay close attention to the items below: 1. Registration for NURS113 and NURS117 students is June 15, 2015 starting at 09:00AM. Before registering on LoLA, you need to check the registration information that will be posted on the CSN website. You will need to know the time and location of your clinical sites before you register. After registering, it is extremely important to secure your enrollment by paying tuition/making down payment/or signing a promissory note/ensuring that financial aid is in order before the college deadline. Do not make work or child care arrangements until you have registered. If you do not get the clinical site that you want, please do not call to be added. In order to change sections after you have registered, you must find someone to switch with you. 2. TB testing and all needed health requirements, CPR, and student liability insurance should have been submitted to your Immunitrax account by May 8, 2015: a. Late requirements should be submitted as soon as possible. Registration holds will be lifted as time permits. Do not call to notify us that the information has been uploaded to Immunitrax. b. If you register for one of the LSUIH clinical sections, you will need to have a TDAP immunization. This is an LSUIH requirement. c. CPR, TB, and liability insurance must be valid through the entire semester. 3. Personal health insurance: It is recommended that students have their own health insurance.
2 2 P a g e 4. Name changes: Current Delgado students: If you have had a name change and your name is different than what appears in Canvas or the system, please me at [email protected] with the name that does appears in Canvas or Clinical Schedule: The clinical rotation schedule posted on the CSN website should be considered a tentative schedule. You will be required to have your uniform, stethoscope, watch and BP cuff the first week of school. Please be sure that your lab coat is ¾ length or full length. The short white lab coats are for medical students. You will begin wearing your uniform the second week of school. Your classes start on a clinical day (, August 18th) which will be at Charity School of Nursing. You can anticipate that you will be at the school of nursing for the first two weeks of the semester. Your clinical instructor will inform you when to report to your clinical site. 6. **ebooks: The ebook package is required for all students. It contains a course, Adaptive Quizzing, which is required for all students. The ebook package cannot be purchased from upperclassmen or shared with other students. The approximate cost of the e-book bundle is $ and contains all books required for the Level I nursing courses. The American Nurses Association publication, Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2014), is not included in the bundle and is required the first week of school. This can be purchased or viewed on the American Nurses Association website in a view only format. Faculty have designated private colors for faculty highlighting in the textbooks.
