The ABSN on our Pleasantville campus will begin on December 18, 2013 & December 19, 2013 with a mandatory student orientation from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Day 1: December 18, 2013, 861 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, New York 10570, Gottesman Room Day 2: December 19, 2013, 861 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, New York 10570, Butcher Suite Please confirm your attendance at orientation with Mr. Edwin Torres, Staff Associate via at etorres2@pace.edu Clinical Computation Exam Students must pass the required clinical calculation examination prior to beginning each nursing course with a clinical component. If a student fails the required clinical calculation exam, the student is required to seek remediation in the Learning Resource Center or the Tutoring Center prior to taking the calculation exam for the second time. Students who fail to pass the clinical calculation by the second try will not be permitted to enroll in any clinical course. If you have not scheduled a date after meeting with Ms. Tiffany Friedman, Academic Services Coordinator please Click Here to schedule your 1 st attempt of the clinical computation exam. A missed appointment is a failed attempt. A 2 nd exam (if needed) will be given from 8am-9am on December 18, 2013 (orientation day). Simple four function calculators are permitted but NO scientific calculators or cells phones/tablets etc. are permitted during the test Clinical Computation Exam -- Review Book: Calculation of Drug Dosages, 9th Edition: A Work Text, Author is Sheila J. 2 Please prepare to take this exam by going to blackboard.pace.edu, click on community tab, click the Lienhard School of Nursing undergraduate studies, choose the documents link on the left hand side, if you scroll down you will find the clinical computation exam review, the answer key and the specific information about the exam. The Spring Semester begins on Monday, January 27, Lecture classes will be held on Wednesday and Thursday; NUR 401 and 406, the clinical nursing courses, will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (a combination of 2 days for each student). Students will be in the college lab (the Learning Resource Center LRC) once per week for 7 weeks for NUR 401 and starting the 6 th or 7 th week will be in a clinical agency. CLINICAL CLEARANCE Health Clearance If you are entering full time, you must have completed the health clearance process. This is because you will be ministering to patients and the University must certify you are free from communicable illness, physically able to provide care, and qualified to provide Basic Life Support (CPR) In addition, you must complete a 10- panel drug test and criminal background check. To receive Health Clearance and be eligible for NUR 401 and 406 participate in the Pace University Learning Resource Center and enter the hospital you must submit the following: 1. Complete Health Clearance form which contains A completed Annual Health Assessment form (physical, PPD, and tetanus) (on blackboardunder documents in the health clearance folder) A completed 2 page Titer/Immunization form All required blood work-(on blackboardunder documents in the health clearance folder) 2. CPR- A copy of the front and back of your card. The correct class is for the professional rescuer (adult, child and infant) 3. Drug testing and background checks Information attached separately in packet. This is a onetime requirement. These forms must be received by January 1, 2014 Health Forms The Lienhard School of Nursing Annual Health Assessment and the Lienhard School of Nursing Titer/Immunization documentation forms with cover letter. The Lienhard School of Nursing Titer/Immunization, once complete, will last for the entire time you are in the program unless requirements should be changed by a health care agency. The MMR and Varicella titer must have a numerical result. Since the blood work required for this form may take some time (two weeks in some cases) you should have your titers and immunization documentation completed as soon as possible. Please bring official records of

3 your immunizations and childhood illnesses with you to your health care provider when you have your physical examination. The Annual Health Assessment is only good for one year, so it must be redone annually. In order for you to begin practice in the college laboratory and in the clinical area, these forms MUST be completed and submitted by January 1, This information is necessary in order for us to fulfill our agency contractual requirements and also for your own safety and that of the clients whom you will be in contact. You will not be permitted to enter a clinical site or college lab (this means NUR 401 or 406) until the School has processed these forms. Any student without health clearance will be removed from the clinical area. No exceptions will be allowed. If you have any additional questions about health clearance, please call Marilena Coletto at (914) You may have your physical examination with your own health care provider or at Pace s University Health Care Unit. University Heath Care is staffed by family nurse practitioners and physician consultants. There are discounted fees for students; these fees may be billed directly to your insurance company (if covered by that company). The examination includes a through health history and physical exam, hematocrit, urine dipstick, and tuberculosis test (PPD). Immunizations require an additional fee. Necessary titers are sent to an outside lab and are specially priced for students. The three University Health Care sites are: New York City Division (212) Pleasantville Division (914) Basic Life Support (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer All the students need current CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer prior to entrance into the Combined Degree program. It is available through local chapters of the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or your local hospital or ambulance corps. The course must include CPR for the adult, child, infant, with AED. SEND A COPY OF YOUR SIGNED CPR CERTICATION CARD IN THE PACKET WITH YOUR HEALTH CLEARANCE FORMS. Please be certain that you sign the card and copy both sides.

4 Veterans Administration Homeland Security All students who will be attending U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facilities must be screened by Homeland Security. Fingerprinting will be a part of this process. Information will be given during the VA clinical orientation. FINANCIAL AID Please direct financial aid questions to their office (877) If you are planning to apply for student loans, a FAFSA form must be filed as soon as possible. REGISTRATION Do not go in person to OSA (Office of Students Assistance) to register. When you receive your academic credit evaluation and Pace has received your deposit, please contact Tiffany Friedman, our academic advisor for new students so she may be able to advise and register you for classes. Her contact information is tfriedman@pace.edu or NECESSARY PURCHASES: Books: Books required for your courses will be available in the Pace University bookstore. The first semester investment is high; most of these books are used throughout the program. Caution-Please note the purchase of used books may prevent you from accessing study aides on the publishers website. Uniforms: Men and Women: Students uniforms are available for purchase at the Pace University bookstore located in the Kessel Campus Center. They are navy blue scrubs, top and bottom, with the Pace University emblem. The uniforms will be worn in the Pace Clinical Education Lab (CEL) and in most clinical settings. In community health settings both men and women wear a dark blue skirt/trousers and white blouse/shirt with a collar. (See LSN Department of Undergraduate Nursing Student Handbook) Uniform shoes when wearing Pace scrubs are plain white leather, low-heeded comfortable shoes, not sneakers; no open shoes or open clogs; white leather athletic shoes such as walking shoes are appropriate. White stockings are recommended for women. Supply Kit for NURS 401: Available for purchase in the bookstore. Wrist Watch (with a second hand): Expansion bands are most functional. Computer: Students must have access to a high speed computer and the Internet. There are computer labs available on campus. FINAL TRANSCRIPT OF COLLEGE RECORD Any student who has completed the requirements for the baccalaureate degree or prerequisite courses after filing the application for admission to the ABSN must submit a final college transcript showing the degree and date of the award or course grade (s) to the Graduate Admission Office as soon as possible after completion of the course/program.

5 HEALTH INSURANCE Each student is encouraged to carry hospitalization insurance. Each student is obligated to offer proof of such insurance coverage should an agency request it.
