3 CPE 3 letters that show you mean business CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN EXECUTIVE Board Certification in Medical Management Overview What Your Peers Say About CPE Certification Eligibility... 4 Application Process and Required Documents CPE Certification Program....7 CPE Recertification... 8 ACPE Fellowship I had been putting off getting the CPE, but when I began a job search, three out of five recruiters asked me if I was a CPE, so I knew it was time to do it. M. Joseph Grennan, Jr., MD, CPE Interim Chief Medical Officer Reading Hospital and Medical Center Reading, Pennsylvania ccmm.org
4 Certified Physician Executive (CPE) Join the elite corps of nearly 1,700 physician leaders who have earned the Certified Physician Executive (CPE) designation. Certified Physician Executive (CPE) board certification opens doors in today s competitive health care leadership field. Adding CPE to your resume indicates that you ve reached a superior level of excellence in medical management with the education, expertise, and demonstrated skills to effectively lead health care organizations in today s challenging market. CPE is the certification of choice for physician executives. Endorsed by the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), the credential is the benchmark for CEOs and executive recruiters seeking the most accomplished and influential health care leaders. There s no better way to set yourself apart, gain prestige, and advance your career. Who We Are The national certifying body for physicians specializing in medical management is the Certifying Commission in Medical Management (CCMM). The Certifying Commission is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the American College of Physician Executives to establish and maintain the highest standards for certification of physician executives. What the recruiters are saying As a recruiter, when I see the CPE designation on a resume, I know that this is a person who, along with leadership and management accomplishments, can communicate well and skillfully handle stressful situations. It sets you apart from the competition. Jennifer Grebenschikoff President Physician Executive Leadership Center Tampa, Florida A recruiter likes to see the CPE credential on a resume. The CPE says you have prepared to compete in the health care management arena and are committed to being a physician executive. It s a differentiator that gives you a decided edge. J. Larry Tyler Chairman & CEO Tyler & Company, Executive Search Consultants Atlanta, Georgia 2
5 Top-notch training enhances knowledge and skills What Your Peers Say About CPE Certification Even after earning my MBA, there was a big hole in my education: managing doctors. The CCMM Certification Program filled that hole. Ken Flowe, MD, MBA, CPE Chief Medical Officer and Emergency Department Medical Director Person Memorial Hospital Roxboro, North Carolina Some leaders intuitively know what to do, but most of us need to develop a series of special skills. Earning a CPE was a valuable experience and well worth the time. It validates you and brings you to the next level as a physician executive. Susan L. Freeman, MD, MS, CPE, FACPE Chief Medical Officer Temple University Hospital Philadelphia, Pennsylvania As a recent masters graduate, I found the CPE Certification Program to be the perfect next step toward advancing my career in health care management. I left the course with renewed confidence and now strongly recommend CPE certification to my colleagues. Raymond L. Singer, MD, MMM, CPE Vice Chair, Quality, Patient Safety, and Outreach Department Regional Heart Center, Lehigh Valley Health Network Allentown, Pennsylvania My experience with the CPE certification program has already resulted in positive results. When our CEO left the organization, the management team was impressed with my CPE credential and chose me as the CMO. Thank you, ACPE. Glenn W. Mitchell, MD, MPH, CPE, FACEP Chief Medical Officer Mercy Health Chesterfield, Missouri ccmm.org 3
