3 Chapter 8 FY13 Graduate Management Admission Test Computer Adaptive Test (GMAT) Introduction The GMAT is available throughout the year. The examinee is responsible for: scheduling the GMAT paying all fees associated with registration if eligible, completing the reimbursement form and applying for reimbursement not later than 90 days after the scheduled test date. Obtain information regarding GMAT testing policies, test fees, registration procedures and identifying the nearest GMAT Test Center by: calling GMAT (4628) visiting the GMAC Web site at reviewing the current GMAT Handbook DANTES reimburses the GMAT fee for eligible military personnel only. For specific eligibility requirements, see the Reimbursement Eligibility section in this chapter. Examinees must pay particular attention to the rescheduling and cancellation sections in the GMAT Handbook. Examinees are responsible for paying all fees charged for these services. Background In 1953, nine graduate schools of business developed a single admissions test for common use. The number of participating institutions grew and, in 1970, they incorporated as the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The Council sets policy and directs Pearson VUE in conduct of the GMAT program. Today, nearly 1700 colleges and universities use scores on the GMAT for admission to graduate business and management programs. The last paperand-pencil administration of the GMAT at DANTES Test Sites was January Beginning 1 October 1999, the GMAT became availableto military personnel at National and International Test Centers only on an after-the-fact reimbursement basis. 4 Description GMAT The GMAT program consists of testing, research, developing publications, disseminating admissions information, and offering guidance and placement services. The Graduate Management Admission Search Service (GMASS) provides candidates information to schools seeking applicants (this service is free to GMAT candidates). The GMAT measures general verbal, quantitative, integrated reasoning and analytical writing skills and abilities developed over a long period of time that are associated with success in the first year of study in a graduate school of management. Test Composition The GMAT includes Analytical Writing, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal questions that the examinee responds to on a computer. 5 Description, Continued GMAT Test Preparation Material Upon GMAT registration, examinees may choose to download the GMATPrep software located at The software can be downloaded at any time by registered users of mba.com. Reimbursement Eligibility Reimbursement Eligibility For Military: To be eligible for reimbursement of the GMAT testing fee, the military examinee must, at the time of testing, possess a current Geneva Conventions Identification Card and meet the following requirements: Have never taken a DANTES-funded GMAT paper-based or GMAT Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) examination. Applying to or enrolled in a graduate school requiring the GMAT or fulfilling a legitimate Service requirement. Agree to apply for reimbursement within 90 days of the scheduled test date. For Civilians: Civilians are not eligible for DANTES reimbursement of the GMAT. II-8-3

6 Registration and Scheduling Procedures Appointment- Online Scheduling Examinees are required to sign on as an mba.com user to schedule an appointment online at Fee payments for appointments made online can only be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or JCB) or debit card (Visa or MasterCard only). By Phone Examinees must contact the GMAT Customer Service in their region following the instructions on page 1 of the GMAT Handbook. Fee payments for appointments by phone can only be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or JCB) or debit card (Visa or MasterCard only). By Mail Examinees must complete the GMAT Appointment Scheduling Form located at and mail or fax using the customer service information provided on page 1 of the GMAT Handbook. Fee payments for appointments made via mail or fax can only be paid by cashiers s check, money order, or personal check payable to Pearson VUE-GMAT in U.S. dollars, and drawn on banks located in the United States. GMAT Reimbursement Responsibilities TCO The DANTES TCO should: Responsibilities Disseminate GMAT testing information through various media. Act as the focal point for information and guidance. Provide the GMAT Handbook and refer examinees to the GMAT Web site at Notify examinees that they must apply for reimbursement no later than 90 days after the scheduled test date. Provide, review, and certify the DANTES GMAT Reimbursement Form for eligible examinees (Exhibit at end of chapter). Advise examinees to allow at least eight (8) weeks after testing before inquiring about their reimbursement Regardless of form of payment used to pay the GMAT test fee, examinees will receive reimbursement through their military pay bank account. Coast Guard members will receive reimbursement via a U.S. Treasury check sent to the mailing address on the request form. Continued on next page II-8-4

7 GMAT Reimbursement Responsibilities, Continued Examinee The examinee is responsible for scheduling, paying fees, and completing the Responsibilities reimbursement form (Exhibit) that can also be downloaded at: Follow the steps below to complete the reimbursement request form: Step Action 1 Prior to testing, contact the nearest DANTES Test Site for reimbursement eligibility information. For registration and scheduling information, obtain the GMAT Handbook or visit 2 Schedule and take the GMAT examination. 3 After receiving the official GMAT Score Report (online or via mail), complete Sections I, II, III, and IV of the GMAT Reimbursement Request Form. The student score report issued after testing is not valid for reimbursement. 4 Contact the nearest DANTES Test Site and ensure the DANTES TCO or ATCO completes and signs the DANTES Official block in Section V: Information Certification. 5 Submit the completed form, with a legible copy of the official GMAT Score Report no later than 90 days after the scheduled test date to: DANTES Attn: Code 20A 6490 Saufley Field Road Pensacola, FL Reimbursement Regardless of form of payment used to pay the GMAT test fee, personnel will Method receive reimbursement through a military bank account. 8 GMAT Reimbursement Responsibilities, Continued Canceling the Immediately following the last section of the test, the examinee may elect to GMAT Scoring cancel GMAT scores, but only prior to viewing. Refer to the GMAT Handbook and Reporting page 16 for complete information. This is the only opportunity for the examinee to cancel scores. Cancelled scores can never be reinstated. Later requests to cancel the scores will not be honored, regardless of the reason. If the examinee cancels the scores, the test fee is forfeited and DANTES will not reimburse the forfeited test fee. Retests Retests The examinee must pay for GMAT retests. The following applies concerning the frequency of the GMAT testing: Examinees may not take the GMAT more than one time in any given calendar month (31 days), even if they took the test and cancelled the score immediately upon completing the test. The GMAT cannot be taken more than 5 times in any 12-month period. If the GMAT is taken more often than allowed, the new score will not be reported and the fee will be forfeited. This policy applies even if the score is cancelled during administration. II-8-6

10 Testing Dates and Fees Scheduling a Test Date For scheduling information, direct examinees to Test Fees Information regarding test fees is available at DANTES does not fund or reimburse any international tax fees, if applicable. Rescheduling Examinees can reschedule or cancel online or by phone. Refer to page 5 of or Canceling the GMAT Handbook for complete information. Test Appointments DANTES does not fund or reimburse the rescheduling or canceling fee. No-Show Examinees forfeit their entire test fee if they fail to: Forfeiture of Registration Reschedule or cancel at least seven (7) days prior to their scheduled Fee appointment. Appear for testing at the appointed time and date. No-Show Fee For emergency no-show circumstances, GMAT will consider refunding the Waiver Policy registration fee. The following applies: The examinee must provide to the DANTES Examinations staff in Pensacola written official documentation that substantiates the circumstances for the emergency no show. DANTES staff will forward the documentation along with a recommendation to the GMAT Program Director for consideration. The GMAT decision is final.
