3 2XactRemodel System Requirements SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS XACTREMODEL 3.4 STAND-ALONE Before installing XactRemodel 3.4 on your computer, it is critical that your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed below. XactRemodel 3.4 runs on any desktop, laptop, tablet PC, convertible, or netbook that meets the following system requirements. Operating System Windows XP (Service Pack 3), Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit (Business or Ultimate), Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit. Processor Speed at least a single-core processor of 1.5 GHz processor. examples: Intel Pentium 4.1.5GHz or AMD Athlon XP RAM at least 1 GB. Hard Drive Space at least 5 GB of continual free hard drive space and a 5400 RPM drive. Monitor Resolution 1024x600 or higher. DVD-ROM Drive Internet access is required to set up and operate XactRemodel. Note: XactRemodel 3.4 does not support Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, or Page 1

4 1XactRemodel 3.4 Installation Instructions INTRODUCTION This chapter walks you through the installation of XactRemodel. It provides you with step-by-step instructions for installing XactRemodel on stand-alone computers. By following the instructions in this chapter, you should have XactRemodel installed and ready to use in no time at all. Note: For network installations, see The following instructions are for stand-alone computer (computers that do not share data with other computers) only. Before installing XactRemodel on your computer, it is critical that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for XactRemodel. These requirements are listed in System Requirements on page 1. Page 2

5 New Installs NEW INSTALLS 1. Make sure you have an active connection to the Internet. Close all open applications. 2. Insert the XactRemodel DVD into your computer. The installation procedure should begin automatically. If the XactRemodel setup does not begin immediately, follow these steps: For Windows XP, a. Click the Windows Start button. b. Click Run. c. Type D:\setup.exe in the Open field. If your DVD-ROM drive is not D, type the letter for your DVD drive instead. d. Click OK. For Windows Vista, a. Click the Windows Start button. b. In the Start Search field, type D:\setup.exe. If your DVD-ROM drive is not D, type the letter for your DVD drive instead. c. Press Enter on your keyboard. For Windows 7, a. Click the Windows Start button. b. In the Search programs and files field, type D:\setup.exe. If your DVD-ROM drive is not D, type the letter for your DVD drive instead. c. Press Enter on your keyboard. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you may be prompted to allow the setup. If this happens, select Yes. The XactRemodel Install Wrapper InstallShield Wizard appears. 6 New Installs 3. Select the language for the install and click OK. The Windows Installer begins. The Installation Setup procedure begins. The InstallShield Wizard informs you that XactRemodel requires certain programs to run correctly. 4. Click Install. Note: These are Microsoft applications that are required to run XactRemodel. If your computer already has the Microsoft applications installed, you will not see the InstallShield Wizard, nor will you be required to restart your computer. Page 4

7 New Installs 5. Click Yes to restart your computer if required. 6. Once your computer has restarted, click the Install button. The installation procedure should begin automatically. If the XactRemodel installation does not begin immediately, go back to step 2 to start the install. The License Agreement appears. Page 5

8 New Installs 7. After reading the license agreement, click the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button, then click Next. The Install Type window appears. 8. Select your installation type and click Next. The Product Key Code window appears. Page 6

9 New Installs 9. Type the 20-character Product Key Code found on the back of your product packaging. 10. Select one of the following: If you need a new XactNet address, choose the I don t have an existing XactNet address radio button. If you have an existing XactNet address, choose the I already have an XactNet address and want to recover it radio button and follow the steps below: i. Enter the address that was used previously to register with XactAnalysis. ii. iii. Select the Request an with Security Codes link. Within a few minutes, Xactware will send a message to the address you entered. This message will contain a security code. Type (or paste) the security code into the appropriate field. 11. Click Next. 12. Select one of the following: Express button to install all versions of XactRemodel needed to work with the profiles on your Product Key Code Page 7

10 New Installs Advanced button to manually select the XactRemodel version(s) you want to install 13. Click Next. The installation process begins. A progress bar shows you the progress of the installation. This will take several minutes; do not cancel the installation while the configuration is running. Page 8

11 New Installs 14. Once the configuration is complete, click Finished to launch XactRemodel 3.4. The Login window appears. Congratulations. You have successfully installed and are ready to begin using XactRemodel 3.4. Page 9

12 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel 3.4 UPGRADING FROM XACTREMODEL 3.3 TO XACTREMODEL 3.4 If you are upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel 3.4, XactRemodel will create a backup of any important XactRemodel 3.3 data by using the Data Transfer backup feature during the update. To upgrade your current version of XactRemodel, you can either run v3.4 XactRemodel DVD upgrade, or you can download the Service Pack through XactAnalysis. UPGRADING BY DVD 1. Make sure you have an active connection to the Internet. Close all open applications. Setup should start automatically when the DVD is inserted. If not, follow the instructions in New Installs on page 4, starting with step 2 to begin the install. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you may be prompted to allow the setup. If this happens, select Yes. The XactRemodel Install Wrapper InstallShield Wizard appears. Page 10

13 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel Select the language for the install and click OK. The Installation Setup procedure begins. An InstallShield Wizard informs you that XactRemodel requires certain programs to run correctly. 3. Click Install. Note: These are Microsoft applications that are required to run XactRemodel. If the Microsoft applications are already installed on your computer, the InstallShield Wizard window will not appear, nor will you be required to restart your computer. 4. Click Yes to restart your computer if required. Page 11

14 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel Once your computer has restarted, click the Install button. The installation procedure should begin automatically. If the XactRemodel installation does not begin immediately, go back to step 2 to start the install. The License Agreement appears. Page 12

15 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel After reading the license agreement, click the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button, then click Next. The Install Setup window appears. 7. Select Express to upgrade XactRemodel, or Advanced to manually select the versions of XactRemodel to install. Page 13

17 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel Once the configuration is complete, click Finished to launch XactRemodel 3.4. The Login window appears. Congratulations. You have successfully upgraded to and are ready to begin using XactRemodel 3.4. Note: After updating to XactRemodel 3.4, you may need to manually retrieve projects from your XactRemodel 3.3 backup that previously existed in certain profiles. Page 15

18 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel 3.4 UPGRADING BY SERVICE PACK THROUGH XACTANALYSIS If you are upgrading XactRemodel version 3.3 to version 3.4, you will need to establish a connection to XactAnalysis. 1. From XactRemodel, select Connect in the XactAnalysis Communication panel. Note: You will need to register with XactAnalysis in order to receive the Service Pack update. XactAnalysis Connection window will display the Program and Data Updates. 2. Select Done when the download is complete. The following message will be displayed informing you that XactRemodel will need to be restarted. Page 16

19 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel Select Yes if you are ready to process the update. The Available Service Pack Updates window will be displayed. The Service Pack give you three options to process the data: Express, Advanced, or Later. Express applies all of the available updates with minimal user input. Advanced lets you decide which Service Pack updates you wish to apply. Later will close the Available Service Pack window without running the update. You will have the option to apply the update at a later time when it s convenient to you. If Later was selected, and you are ready to apply the update, Page 17

20 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel 3.4 i. Select XactAnalysis from the top menu and XactAnalysis Updates from the drop down. The Available Service Pack window will be displayed. Page 18

21 Upgrading from XactRemodel 3.3 to XactRemodel Select Express or Advanced to apply the update(s). The XactRemodel Service Pack in Progress window will be displayed. Once the update has completed, the status at the bottom of the window will display Succeeded. 5. Select Close. The Service Pack window will be closed. 6. From XactRemodel, verify the version number has been updated. 7. The version number can be found from the main menu under Help->About XactRemodel or from the Control Center, in the bottom left hand corner of XacRemodel. Page 19
