1 CALL FOR ADMISSIONS TO ENGINEERING DEGREE PROGRAMS FOR A.Y. 2016/17 Rectoral Decree no. 63 dated 22 nd February, 2016 THE RECTOR Given the University Statute; Given the current General Academic Regulations of the University; Given law no. 189 dated , concerning "Changes to legislation on immigration and asylum"; Given the Ministerial Decree dated 22nd October, 2004, no. 270 "Amendments to the Regulations on the educational autonomy of Universities"; Given the Ministerial Decrees dated 16th March, 2007, "Determination of the degree classes" and "Determination of the single-cycle 2nd Level degree classes"; Given the Ministerial Decree no. 47, dated 30th January, 2013; Given the provisions for the enrolment of foreign and European Union students referred to in the ministerial circular dated 16th April, 2015, protocol No and previous, and pending the publication of the circular itself for the academic year 2016/17; Given the Rector's Decree no. 305, dated 6th July, 2015 entitled "Admission to degree programs offered by the University - academic year 2015/16"; Given the respective resolutions of the Academic Senate on 10th November, 2015, and of the Board of Governors on 2nd December, 2015, in which: - the minimum threshold of 20/100 was introduced on the admission tests (Test in Laib) for inclusion of all candidates on a ranking list, with exception of non-eu citizens who are resident abroad and hold a foreign qualification; - a Commission was named for the definition of the planned sustainable number for each degree program for the academic year 2016/17; Given the resolution of the Board of Governors dated 22nd December, 2015, which, by favourable opinion expressed by the Academic Senate with resolution dated 10th December, 2015, approved the list of degree programs to be activated, subject to approval of the Ministry of Education, for the AY 2016/17; Given the resolution of the Board of Governors dated 29th January, 2016, which, by favourable opinion expressed by the Academic Senate with resolution dated 27th January 2016, approved the planned number of students to be admitted to the University's undergraduate courses for AY 2016/17; Considering that during the meetings of the Academic Senate and the Board of Governors, held respectively on 27th and 29th January 2016, the framework of the new General Academic Regulations of the University was approved, and is under scrutiny of the Ministry of Education for compliance; Considering that the resolutions mentioned in the introduction have been made available on the University website in order to facilitate the use of the necessary information by prospective students and their families; DECREES Section 1 (Places available) 1. For the degree programs in Engineering in AY 2016 / 2017, a Call is made for admissions to the number of places indicated in Table A attached to this Call and of which it is an integral part. Access is through a computer-based test called TIL - I [acronym for Test in Laib - Ingegneria (Engineering)]. 2. The TIL-I is held in the University's computer laboratories (LAIB) or in other duly indicated locations in Italy or abroad, as shown on 3. Admission to programs referred to in this section is subject to prior accreditation of the same pursuant to current provisions. Section 2 (Requirements for admission to the TIL-I and enrolment in the Engineering Area degree programs) 1. The requirements for admission to the TIL-I and for enrolment to the Engineering Area degree programs are indicated in Table B, attached to this Call of which it is integral part. 2. As part of that aforementioned table the requirements are identified both for European Union or equivalent students and for quota students, defined as follows: a. European Union student refers to an Italian citizen, a European Union citizen or a foreigner who is a regular resident in Italy (not requiring a Visa permit) holding a foreign educational qualification; b. equivalent student indicates: a student from Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and San Marino; 1

2 a non-eu student with a "residence permit" for work or self-employment, family reasons, political asylum, humanitarian asylum, religious reasons; staff serving in Foreign Diplomatic missions and international organizations located in Italy (accredited to the Italian State or the Holy See) and their dependent family members limited to spouses and children, foreigners legally residing for at least one year holding a high school qualification acquired in Italy, as well as foreigners, resident anywhere, who are holders of diplomas from Italian schools abroad or foreign or international schools in Italy or abroad, that are subject to bilateral agreements or special regulations for the recognition of educational qualifications and that meet the general conditions required for entry for study (for more details, section 26 law no. 189/2002); c. quota students refers to non-eu students residing abroad with a foreign educational qualification. 3. Candidates who meet the requirements set out in Section 6 are exempt from taking the TIL-I test. 4. The score obtained on the TIL-I is only valid for enrolment in the academic year 2016/17. Section 3 (Taking the TIL-I) 1. Candidates can take a TIL-I for one or more active degree programs. If the sitting is for more than one program, candidates must indicate a preference order for each program, for up to maximum 5 preferences. To increase the chances of admission to the Engineering degree programs, candidates will have to accept assignment to the first available seat provided by the computer allocation system, in case none of the 5 choices are possible. 2. Application to take the TIL-I is made by candidates through the on-line registration on the University platform called Apply@Polito until all available places have been filled. 3. Registration for the TIL-I sessioncan be made: a. through the University platform called Polito, in the case of EU and equivalent students who intend to sit for the TIL-I at the Politecnico or other locations in Italy,; b. through the University platform called Polito in the case of EU, equivalent and quota students who want to sit for a TIL-Iduring session taking places out of Italy,; c. in person at the Incoming Mobility Office- International Area for the verification of the documents listed in Table B mentioned in Section 2.in the case of quota students who wish to sit for the TIL-I in Poltecnico, 4. The TIL-I are organized in compliance with current legislation on disabilities and specific learning disorders. The procedures to sit for the TIL-I for students referred to in this paragraph are listed on the University website the same site also lists the Administration Offices to which one can request the necessary support to sit for the aforementioned TIL-I. 5. Detailed information on how to register on the Polito platform, how to participate, the amount and terms of payment of the registration fee for the TIL-I and how the TIL-I takes place, are explained on the University web page 6. During the tests, students must follow the rules of conduct provided by the Commissions referred to in section The TIL-I are held in sessions according to the calendar published on the University website Section 4 (Contents of the TIL-I) 1. The TIL-I consists of an individual test, which is different for each candidate, made up of automatically and randomly selected computer interface questions. All tests have an equivalent difficulty. 2. The TIL-I consists of 42 questions, divided into 4 sections, with a predetermined number of questions to be finished within a pre-set time: 18 maths questions to be performed in 40 minutes, 6 verbal comprehension questions in 12 minutes, 6 logic questions in 12 minutes and 12 physics questions in 26 minutes. The total time for the TIL-I is set at one hour and thirty minutes. Each question has 5 possible answers marked with the letters A, B, C, D, E, only one of which is correct. 3. The result of each individual test is determined as follows: 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each unanswered question and a penalty of 0.25 points for each incorrect answer. The rating is converted to hundredths and calculated up to the second decimal position. At the end of the test candidates will be able to see their test outcome on their screens. Section 5 (The TIL-PO-I test) 2

Students who have participated in the "Progetto Orientamento" organized by the University in collaboration with high schools, who have carried out at least 75% of their school program in the area of mathematics and physics, and intend to enrol in a degree program in Politecnico have the possibility of taking the TIL-PO-I test (TIL-Orientation Project), equivalent to the TIL-I. 2. The TIL-PO-I is held in a dedicated session within the month of February, according to the schedule published in the University website 3. The TIL-I consists of 42 questions, divided into 4 sections, with a predetermined number of questions to be finished within a pre-set time: 6 logic questions in 12 minutes, 6 verbal comprehension questions in 12 minutes, 16 maths questions in 36 minutes, and 14 physics questions in 30 minutes. The maths and physics questions are half on subjects discussed during lectures and half on curricular subject. The total time for the TIL-PO-I is set at one hour and thirty minutes. Each question has 5 possible answers marked with the letters A, B, C, D, E, only one of which is correct. 3. The result of each individual test is determined as follows: 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each unanswered question and a penalty of 0.25 points for each incorrect answer. The rating is converted to hundredths and calculated up to the second decimal position. At the end of the test candidates will be able to see their test outcome on their screens. 5. Students participating in the "Progetto Orientamento", may take the TIL-I starting from the March session upon payment of the contribution. Section 6 (Exemptions from TIL-I) 1. Candidates may be exempted from TIL-I when holding SAT, GRE and GMAT certificates, recognized as equivalent to passing the TIL-I (grading equal to or higher than the guarantee threshold) according to the following specifications: - SAT: SAT test (sections: Critical reading, Writing, Mathematics) and SAT Subject Test (sections: Physics and Mathematics Level 1 or 2), with a minimum of 500 points in each section. The three sections of the SAT test can be replaced by an ACT Test with a minimum score of 20; - GRE (General Test) with a minimum score of 153 in the "Verbal" section and 144 in the "Quantitative" section and with any score in the "Analytical Writing" section; - GRE (General Test) issued before 1st August, 2011 with a minimum score of 500 in the two "Verbal" and "Quantitative" sections, with any score in the "Analytical Writing" section; - GMAT with a minimum score of 500 in the two "Verbal" and "Quantitative" sections, with any score in the "Analytical Writing" section. 2. To take advantage of the aforementioned exemption, candidates are required to submit the relevant certifications to the Orientation Office by 29th July, The outcome of the verification process will be announced via no later than 23rd August, Candidates holding a university degree included among those in Table C, attached to this decree are exempted from taking the TIL-I test. 4. Candidates who are exempted under this Section are not entitled to the enrolment fee reduction referred to in Section 11, paragraph 1. Section 7 (Publication of the rankings) 1. The ranking referred to in this decree shall be published, under the responsibility of the Admissions procedure manager, only on the Online Bulletin (Albo online) of the University and on the Polito candidate page, with the following schedule: a. EU and equivalent students: Tuesday, 6th September, 2016; b. quota students: Wednesday, 28th September, Section 8 (How the rankings are made) 1. The results of TIL-I shall be made public through the publication of two separate rankings: a. one ranking for the allocation of seats to European Union and equivalent candidates; b. one ranking for the allocation of seats to quota candidates. 2. The ranking for the allocation of places to European Union and equivalent candidates is made on the basis of the following criteria: a. one single ranking for all Engineering degree programs candidates and allocation of places available to students who have obtained a TIL-I score higher than or equal to 50/100. Students with a score lower than 20/100 are not included within the enrolment ranking list. 3

4 b. residual places are allocated according to merit until they are available. In case of equal ranking, the score obtained in the individual sections that make up the TIL-I shall prevail, considered in the following order: Mathematics, Verbal comprehension, Logic and Physics. In case of a repeat equal ranking, the official secondary school diploma grade shall prevail. In case of a further equal ranking, the younger student candidate will be chosen. 3. The ranking for the allocation of places to quota candidates is made on the basis of the following criteria: a. One single ranking for all Engineering degree programs and allocation of places available to students who have obtained a TIL-I score higher than or equal to 50/100. b. residual places are allocated according to merit until they are available. In case of equal ranking, the score obtained in the individual sections that make up the TIL-I shall prevail, considered in the following order: Mathematics, Verbal comprehension, Logic and Physics. In case of a repeat equal ranking, the official secondary school diploma grade shall prevail. In case of a further equal ranking, the younger student candidate will be chosen. 4. In each case the rankings are made on the basis of the preferences expressed by the candidates and referred to in Section 3. The University considers the preferences starting from the first and according to the following criteria: a. if the first choiche is available, it is assigned (ASSIGNED student); b. if the first choice cannot be awarded, the successive choices will be considered until a place is availble, in which case, the candidate is entitled to enrol for that degree program (ASSIGNED student). For all preceding choices, the candidate is in any case placed on a waiting list (BOOKED student), unless all chosen degree programs with greater preference are complete; c. if no assignment is possible among the chosen degree program, the candidate is awarded the first available place found by the computer allocation system. Section 9 (Enrolment in degree programs) 1. For the purposes of enrolment to the degree programs, candidates are placed in the rankings mentioned in the previous section as: ASSIGNED STUDENT: student assigned to a program of first preference that is not yet complete. All "assigned" students have obtained a score higher than or equal to 50/100. Students must enrol within the indicated deadline; BOOKED STUDENT: Student booked for a program that is not a first choice and on the waiting list for one or more programs with higher preference. The student can enrol for the program to which she/he was assigned or wait for the next call/s; in any case she/he does not lose the possibility to enrol in the program for which she/he is booked in; STUDENT ON WAITING LIST: student to whom it has not been possible to assign a seat in any of the chosen degree programs, but who could be assigned a seat in a non-saturated degree program in subsequent calls. The student must wait for the next the call/s. Section 10 (Enrolment on line - IOL/Immatricolazione on line) 1. Applicants that under provision of the previous Section 8 are placed in the ranking as assigned student or booked student can enrol thorough the online procedure called "IOL" (in Italian), with simultaneous payment of the first instalment of the enrolment fees, with the exception of the exemption cases provided for by the 2016/17 Fee Regulation specifically issued with a Rector's Decree. 2. Payment may be made by Credit Card (VISA or MasterCard) or through the MAV process, or at the Orientation Office even with a Debit Card. The fee amount is indicated in the 2016/17 Fee Regulation. 3. The on line "IOL" enrolment is made "as provisional" and it must be completed at the University Registrar's Office with presentation of the documentation: the original ID document and any certificates certifying knowledge of the language according to the University's requirements, indicated in Table B and referred to Section Before making their online "IOL" registration, candidates who have a foreign educational qualification must produce the following documentation to the Incoming Mobility Office - Internationalization Area: a) original ID; b) codice fiscale (tax code); c) residence permit for those already resident in Italy; d) high school diploma with official translation in Italian; for US or British titles, you must also submit a certificate stating achievement of the "American Advanced Placements" -APS (US study title) or A-level (UK) related to the chosen degree program as indicated on e) certificate of admission to University if required in the country of origin; 4

5 f) certificate, translated into Italian, with university exams passed in the first one or two academic years, in the event that the school career in the country of origin is less than 12 years or else a post-secondary education qualification obtained from a non-university Institute of Higher Education g) DV- dichiarazione di valore of the high school diploma; h) certifications of the knowledge of Italian or English, required for admission to the degree program as published on and shown on Table B referred to in Section In the absence of the documents referred to in points c) and g) of paragraph 4 of this Section, the enrolment will be accepted as provisional. This condition will drop by 28th February 2017 with their presentation. Otherwise the enrolment will be cancelled, with immediate cancellation effect on any educational career developments occurred in the interim. Section 11 (Ranking slip schedule and deadlines for enrolment) 1. The EU and equivalent candidates that have obtained at least 50/100 in the TIL-I are required to enrol between 18th July and 12th September, For those that enrol by 31st August there is a fee reduction as per indications on the site at : The candidate loses the right to enrol in case of non-compliance with the terms of this paragraph whatever the reason brought forward as a justification. 2. The quota candidates, who haven t taken the TIL-I in Italy and have obtained at least 50/100, may enrol from 18th July until 14th October, If the enrolment is completed by 31st August there is a fee reduction as per indications on the website at: 3. The quota candidates, who have taken the TIL-I at Politecnico and have obtained at least 50/100, may enrol between 9.00 am of 15th September, 2016 and am of 14th October 2016, depending on their test date. 4. The EU and equivalent candidates with a score of less than 50/100 are required to wait for the publication of the ranking list. In any case, the enrolment takes place on the basis of the following schedule: First phase of enrolment for students admitted in the first place: from Monday, 18th July to 2.00 pm on Monday, 12th September; Enrolments for students accepted once the ranking is out: Tuesday 6th September to 2.00 pm on Monday, 12th September; First electronic call: Tuesday, 13th September; Second phase of enrolment for students admitted after the first electronic call: from 2.00 pm on Tuesday, 13th September to 2.00 pm on Thursday, 15th September; Second electronic call: Friday, 16th September; Third phase of enrolment for students admitted after the second electronic call: from 2.00 pm on Friday 16th September to 2.00 pm on Monday, 19th September; Third electronic call: Tuesday, 20th September; Fourth phase of enrolment for students admitted after the third electronic call: from 2.00 pm on Tuesday, 20th September to 2.00 on Thursday, 22nd September. 5. The quota candidates with a score lower than 50/100 are required to wait for the publication of the ranking on 28th September, In any case, enrolment takes place from 9.00 am on 29th September, 2016 to am on 14th October The term enrolment phase refers to the period within which students must enrol on line or they risk losing their seat; the term electronic call means the exact moment in which - also partly as a result of the ranking's slip - candidates know the development of their situation (assigned, booked, on a waiting list). 7. The terms referred to in this Section are not subject to written notice to students and they are made available to the public exclusively through the University website. 8. In any case, at the end of the phases and calls referred to in this Section, the University reserves the right to make further calls if there are residual seats for enrolment in graduate programs, according to the order of merit provided by the rankings in the previous Section 8. Section 12 (Residual seats) 1. The end date of ranking slips for quota students is 28th September, The residual places on that date shall be promptly notified to the Ministry of Education (MIUR). 2 Given that these places are not re-assignable to students who have not taken the admissions test and considering that the last TIL-I session for quota candidates is set on 27th September, 2016, de facto those places cannot be available for quota students who have not found a place in other Italian universities. 5

6 3. The residual places referred to in this section and not used as per indications in the previous paragraph 2 shall be assigned, in accordance with the schedules, to EU and equivalent students. 4. The end date of ranking slips for EU and equivalent students is 28th October Section 13 (Candidates who take multiple admission tests) 1. Candidates who have taken multiple admissions test for access to different degree programs offered by the University, who can enrol in an Engineering program and are on a waiting list for one or more programs in Architecture must enrol before the deadline, to avoid losing their place. Subsequently, if candidates also find they are entitled to a place for enrolment to another degree program they must go to the Registrar's Office within the enrolment deadline date. 2. Candidates who have taken the TIL-I and are awaiting the results of the admissions tests to other Universities must enrol before the deadline, to avoid losing their place; subsequently, if candidates also find they are entitled to a place for enrolment to other University programs, they may go to the Registrar's Office and ask to abandon the process. This operation requires a stamp duty of EUR on the relative form. 3. The enrolment fee previously paid will not be refunded. Section 14 (Offices) 1. The person responsible for the admissions procedure referred to in this call is Mrs. Mahee Ferlini, Manager of the Education Management Area. Section 16 (Committees) 1. Successive Rector's Decrees shall appoint members of the Central Committee and the Laboratory Committees that shall be responsible for the implementation of each of TIL session. Section 17 (Privacy policy) 1. The information provided for in Section 13 of the "Code regarding the protection of personal data" (Legislative Decree dated 30th June 2003, n. 196) is available on: Section 18 (Access to Documents) 1. Access to all Documents is allowed in the forms provided for by current Legislation. Section 19 (Final Provisions) 1. For all matters not expressly provided for in this Call, reference is made to existing legislation concerning locally programmed admission quotas. 2. Communication with candidates will take place primarily through the Polito procedure. Specific communications will be sent via or SMS using the contact details provided by candidates during registration. 3. Politecnico does not take any responsibility in case of unavailability of recipients and for loss of communications due to inexact indication of a candidate's address or telephone number or due to delay or failure to notify changes to the contacts provided during registration. Section 20 (Publication) 1. This Call is published on the Online University Bulletin on The same can be found on 6
