1 LIABILITY INSURANCE WALKING SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT 7-9 SEPTEMBER 2015 ROBINSON COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE THE CONFERENCE This is the twenty-second Conference organized with the support of the Liability Underwriters Group. The Conference will once again cover a wide number of issues including: The state of the market Policy coverage issues Emerging risks Legal developments There will be plenty of opportunities for delegates to join in discussions. Time is set aside after each presentation for questions, delegates will be able to take part in Master Classes and at the Symposium, issues can be raised by delegates for debate by the Conference. WHO IS THE CONFERENCE FOR? This Conference will be of interest to anyone involved in Liability Insurance: underwriters, brokers, claims managers, risk managers and lawyers. THE BENEFITS In addition to hearing expert and eminent speakers there will be an opportunity to: Discuss liability insurance issues with others - both speakers and other delegates Exchange views during the Symposium - an important aspect of the Conference is to encourage participation and obtain a good cross-section of views Develop business relationships - the Conference has a strong social aspect to compliment the academic THE VENUE Robinson College is the most modern college in Cambridge with excellent conference and residential facilities. THE LIABILITY UNDERWRITERS GROUP The Conference is supported by the Liability Underwriters Group, a Committee of the International Underwriting Association of London Ltd (IUA). LUG was formed over 30 years ago by leading underwriters in the London Market with a view to improving levels of knowledge in the market as a whole. This is pursued through an academic approach to dealing with real problems facing the market.

3 THE SPEAKERS CHAIRPERSON DEBORAH HALL Deborah Hall was trained by BBC TV as a journalist and presenter. She presented the local and national news on the BBC for 12 years and was a news anchor on BBC World for 6 years. Deborah presents The Law Channel and The Accountants Channel for the Einstein Network, GSTV for BT Global Services, The Surveyors and Architects Channels for RIBA and the Risk Channel for the insurance market. As a trainer of Presentation and Media Skills, Deborah has worked with senior executives from BT, Vodafone, Ofcom, The Law Society, Merrill Lynch, European Union, WHO, Health Protection Agency and CAREC in the Caribbean. Deborah is the media consultant for Bill Gates WHO s worldwide programme to vaccinate the poor. She has chaired many Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance Conferences, including 20 of the 21 LUG Conferences. PRESENTERS IAN ANSCOMBE Ian Anscombe is Technical Consultant at Willis UK. He has over 30 years experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry and for the past 12 years has been a wordings specialist in the production and negotiation of bespoke Liability and Motor Trade policy wordings on behalf of major UK clients. In addition, he provides technical support to the Willis Accounts teams and is a regular author of both internal and external technical bulletins. CAROLINE DUNN Caroline Dunn is Executive of Employers Liability and General Liability at Lloyd's of London. She was previously Product Director for Liability and Construction, Engineering and Renewable Energy at RSA. COLIN EDELMAN QC Colin Edelman QC practises from Devereux Chambers. He specialises in high value complex commercial disputes with an emphasis on insurance, reinsurance, professional indemnity and energy. He has been involved in a number of high profile matters affecting the London and international insurance markets, including disputes arising out of most of the major natural disasters and financial collapses of the last decade. He has written and lectured extensively on issues affecting the insurance and reinsurance market. In 2008 he was authorised to sit as Deputy High Court Judge (Queen s Bench Division) and in 2012 he was authorised to sit as Deputy High Court Judge in the Commercial Court. TRACY HEAD Tracy Head is a partner in Kennedys. She specializes in employers' and public liability claims, advising on the full range of serious, complex and catastrophic personal injury claims including tetraplegia and paraplegia injuries. She has significant expertise in the handling of product liability claims which stems from her leading the team in Worsley v Tambrands Ltd, the primary toxic shock syndrome case, which considered warnings and labeling. She heads the Civil Justice Group for Kennedys and drives engagement with government on the interlocking Jackson reforms with a broad church of interests ranging from corporate with large SIR, composite insurers, public bodies and voluntary groups. ANDREW HIBBERT Andrew Hibbert is a Partner in BLM, head of BLM s national catastrophic injury group and is a member of the Executive Board. He specializes in catastrophic injury cases, handling cases of the utmost severity and has considerable experience of all of the major injury types seen in this arena.
4 CLAIRE MCIVOR Dr Claire McIvor is a senior lecturer at Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham. She is a tort lawyer whose main research interests are: liability for the acts of others (both vicarious and nonvicarious), public authority liability in negligence (particularly police liability), and the legal applications of Epidemiology. ROGER NASH Roger Nash is a Liability Underwriting Manager with Faraday in London, and previously worked for Groupama and AXA (Westgate). He has more than 30 years experience in underwriting liability insurance ranging from UK regional business to risks placed in the London Market. He is a former chairman of LUG, having been a member for over 10 years. He has been involved in a number of LUG s working groups. Roger is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a Chartered Insurer. SIMON PENALUNA Simon Penaluna is Executive Director of Wordings, Global Markets International London. He has over 25 years experience in both International Liability and Property Insurance Policy Wordings. He is involved in the analysis, review, preparation and production of policy wordings for major clients around the world. He is also a regular contributor and editor of several insurance examination course books relating to Casualty and Property Insurance and Commercial Contract Wordings issued by the Chartered Insurance Institute in London. SCOTT SAYCE Scott Sayce is European Underwriting Director of Technology and Cyber at CNA Europe. He is responsible for CNA Europe's technology and cyber risk underwriting, provided across the various CNA Europe offices. He has over 12 years of dedicated experience as a technology and cyber underwriter and broker. He was previously a Tech PI and Cyber underwriter at CFC Underwriting Ltd. He is vice chair of the IUA Committee for Cyber. CNA were also a Founding member of CRIF (Cyber Risk and Insurance Forum). CHRISTIAN TAYLOR Christian Taylor is CNA/Hardy s Senior Counsel in London, having previously worked for AIG and QBE. He has more than 10 years experience in developing insurance products and wordings, technical underwriting and policy coverage issues. He is currently chairman of LUG and has been involved in LUG s working group on Freedom of Services. A qualified and practicing solicitor in England and Wales, he has pioneered the development of several new coverages in the liability arena. ROBIN WILKINSON Robin Wilkinson is the founder and Product Development Director of Arium Risk Architecture, a risk modelling company based in the City of London. Arium s innovative approach to risk modelling is applied primarily within the insurance industry but also in other industries including policy and aviation. She was admitted to the bar in NYC and practised corporate law in New York before moving to London where she worked in the company commercial department of Cameron McKenna. She was counsel at United International Pictures, then international motion picture distributor for Paramount, Universal and MGM/UA. She was then Head of Legal Services at British Airways Plc. She pioneered legal risk management techniques and developed liability risk models with British Airways as the first client.
