2 All Innovations are Socially Relevant We are facing proverbially "stormy times": Due to increasing social disparities, the economic globalisation, and new technological possibilities, our experiences and perspectives of life are changing. Social tensions are growing and changes of historic relevance grip the world economy: the Great Challenges like fighting poverty & unemployment, handling the needs of an ageing society and ensuring educational & learning possibilities for the younger generation, or dealing with climate change & the scarcity of natural ressources are the predominant features of the 21 st century. Today social innovation has ultimately become an important topic in research and innovation policies. Besides initiatives of the UN and the OECD, the subject has created strong dynamics especially on European Union level. Despite of the increasing political awareness for the need of social innovations, there has been no professional study program on Master's level for this subject...until now! in cooperation with the Centre for Social Innovation in Vienna offers a unique Master's program for individuals who want to develop lasting innovations in politics, economy and society. Special emphasis will be given to the importance of social media, which has undergone a transformation from an accompanying instrument to an engine for social innovations. Graduates of the "MASTER OF ARTS IN SOCIAL INNOVATION" will be able to work as Social Innovators in organisations as well as in consulting and supervision. "The technology-oriented innovation paradigm does not cover the full range of innovations indispensable in the transition from the industrial to a knowledge and service-based society. Such fundamental social changes require the inclusion of social innovations in a paradigm shift of the innovation system. The new innovation paradigm is essentially characterized by the opening of the innovation process to society. Alongside companies, universities and research institutes, citizens and customers become players in innovation processes. Terms and concepts such as open innovation, user-led innovation, customer integration, and innovation networks reflect aspects of this development. Claudia Wittig Rosales Student from Mexico Study Program The aim of this study programme is to provide professionals with substantial knowledge of how to stimulate, accompany, control and evaluate social innovations, allowing them to contribute to the social dimension of economic and technological change. Graduates will be able to use their knowledge effectively in the development, planning and implementation of social transformation processes. Besides, students will be trained in counselling and the supervision of social innovations in organisations including private enterprises, social, political or cultural institutions, educational institutions and nonprofit organisations (NPOs). This program creates a solid basis for a career as an independent innovator. Not only a professional portfolio of competences will be developed, but students will also conduct a project work which stimulates and supports their professional development und increases their chances on the job-market. Methodology The program of study consists of assessed course modules that are delivered through a blend of online distance learning and a set of face-to-face sessions held at. Attendance days will be full days, usually blocks of 4-5 days, to optimise your time and travel efforts. According to the number of ECTS credits, students must plan for extra workload done online in addition to these attendance days. A typical module of 5 ECTS consists of > a first online phase for the activation of prior knowledge > a face-to-face session combining workshops, discussions > and theoretical inputs provided by the lecturers > a learning phase to draw up a learning product > a second face-to-face session to present your learning product > a follow-up phase with final assessment The online phases are accompanied by an online learning platform. This platform will serve as an organizational "switchboard" between the course director and the students, as well as a platform for the exchange of communication and the documentation of joint work.
