AMES was originally set up in 1991 to assist older people to upskill in modern technology for the workplace. Since then AMES has focused increasingly on providing Information Technology courses and International Certifications to enable students to pursue their chosen careers throughout the world. 6 General Information General Entry Requirements Entry is open to all citizens, permanent residents and international students as long as they meet the general and coursespecific requirements. All applications will be considered on a case by case basis. Domestic students should contact AMES IT Academy by phone or AMES IT ( ) [email protected] or by completing an online application at International students please see page 7. International Certifications For those courses or diplomas that have external examinations associated with them, the first sitting of each examination is provided as part of the course fees for domestic students. Any further resits of examinations will be at the student s expense. Protection of Fees Student fees are protected by the use of a Trust Account, in accordance with Section 253(1) and Section 256(4) of the Education Act of Training For all courses at AMES IT Academy, students are expected to supplement instructor led training with a minimum of three hours of individual or group study per day, outside of the class period. To facilitate this, AMES IT Academy has a computer-based self-study room and a peer study room. Work Placement AMES IT Academy will assist with career placement and transition into the workforce. Course Changes AMES IT Academy reserves the right to make any changes to, or cancel, any course. Student Loans Students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for student loans and allowances.

7 Domestic students Entry to Level 5 programmes A total of 48 NCEA credits in the best four subjects at minimum of Level 2 or equivalent. Or Have at least one year s appropriate work experience in the computing industry Or Have completed CompTIA, A+ and Network+ qualifications Or Can demonstrate competence equivalent to the above entry criteria but may be obtained through other appropriate qualifications, Applicants require general computing experience using a Windows based computer Applicants are strongly advised to have computer and internet access outside of the course Students must also meet the course specific requirements including an entrance exam if required All other programmes: - Entry requirements as per programme regulations. Adult and Special Entry Students who do not meet the above criteria may apply for adult or special entry where entry is based on work experience in the IT industry and aptitude in addition to academic qualities. International Students International Students must be 18 years old and must have an overall IELTS band score (Academic) of no less than 6.0 (with no band score lower than 5.5), or a TOEFL score of no less than 550, or equivalent. 8 Certificate in Computer, Technical and Client Support PC9813 Full Time - 12 weeks Information Technology (IT) is the essential part of every major industry, from banking and finance to manufacturing and retail services. Information Technology (IT) is in the midst of a time of rapid change and the industry needs trained people to fill the jobs. You can secure your IT career with globally recognised IT certifications by enrolling at AMES. AMES IT Academy have small class sizes, of max 15 students in each batch giving total hands on experience to the students on practical labs and workshops, Our tutors have both industry and teaching experience which produces highly efficient students. This certificate course is designed to create pathways for learning Microsoft and Cisco technologies. The course covers maintenance of PCs, mobile devices, laptops, operating systems and printers. COURSE COMPONENTS CompTIA A covers the fundamentals of computer technology, installation and configuration of PCs, laptops and related hardware, and basic networking. CompTIA A covers the skills required to install and configure PC operating systems, as well as configuring common features (e.g. network connectivity and ) for mobile operating systems Android and Apple ios. Assessments: Assessments are graded against standards based criteria. All assignment practical oriented and will be covered during the class. At the end of the semester students will do presentation in the class based on their project. 8

9 A+ PC9813 Entry Requirements: Four subjects at NCEA Level 2 or 3 with English as a required subject. or Have at least one year s appropriate work experience in the IT industry or Can demonstrate competence equivalent to the above criteria that may be attained through appropriate qualifications. When faced with a new challenge, you eagerly investigate a solution in a methodical way. A career in computing can bring all of your strengths together. The goal is to have the students develop a skill set to be able to install, maintain, customize, configure, and troubleshoot systems. To support this training students are exposed to considerable hands-on activities using well equipped labs. The Certificate in Windows Server Administration program specializes in server support using Microsoft as operating systems. Students work with Microsoft Active directory services to support clients, virtualization and clustering technologies to deploy highly available systems of servers that provide a multitude of business functionality. Students are encouraged to obtain industry certifications from Microsoft. COURSE COMPONENTS Configuring Active Directory Domain Services: This course provides the skills and knowledge necessary to implement a core Windows Server infrastructure in an existing enterprise environment. This course primarily covers the implementation and configuration of core services including Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), networking services, and Hyper-V Server configuration. Configuring Advance Server Services: This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to provision advanced services in an enterprise environment. This course will teach you how to configure and manage high availability features, file and storage solutions, and network services. You will also learn about configuring the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) infrastructure, and implementing backups and disaster recovery. 10

11 Server Administration: This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to configure and maintain core infrastructure services in a Windows Server enterprise environment. This course is intended for those who wish to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to broaden that implementation to manage and maintain the core. International Certifications: During the course students are encouraged to complete the MCSA certification. These are prerequisites for any further certifications. The MCSA certification validates that job seekers have a minimum set of skills to hit the ground running. Students can get college credit by earning a Microsoft Certification. Assessments: Assessments are graded against standards based criteria. All assignments are practical oriented and will be covered during the class. There will be a one project that students will present in the class at the end of the semester. MCSA PC9814 Entry Requirements: Four subjects at NCEA Level 2 or 3 with English as a required subject or equivalent and/or Completion of CompTIA A+Certificate or Certificate in Computing, Technical and Client Support PC9813 or equivalent or Have at least one year s appropriate work experience in the IT industry. 12 Certificate in Networking Devices Administration and Support PC9815 FULL TIME - 12 WEEKS The Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching courses are designed for Cisco Networking Academy students who are seeking entry-level jobs in the ICT industry. CCNA Routing and Switching provides an integrated and comprehensive coverage of networking topics, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services, while providing opportunities for hands-on practical experience and career skills development. Students will be prepared to take the CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam, or the Cisco CCENT certification exam. The curriculum also helps students develop workforce readiness skills and builds a foundation for success in networking-related careers and degree programs. COURSE COMPONENTS Introduction to Networks: This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and other computer networks. The principles and structure of IP addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations are also introduced. Students will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes. Routing and Switching Essentials: This course describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a small network. Students learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with RIPv1, RIPng, single-area and multi-area OSPF, virtual LANs, and inter-vlan routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Scaling Networks: This course describes the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in larger and more complex networks. Students learn how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality. Students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement a WLAN in a small-to-medium network. 12

Students learn how to configure and troubleshoot network devices and resolve common issues with data link protocols. 27 COURSE COMPONENTS Active Directory Services Configuring Advanced Server Services Server Administration Information Sharing Systems Linux Administration Implementing an Advanced Infrastructure Designing and Implementing Server Infrastructure Core Solutions of Messaging Systems Advanced Solutions of Messaging Systems International Certifications: During the course students are encouraged to complete the following certifications: Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE Enterprise Network) Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE Messaging Systems) Certified Linux Administrator Assessments: Assessments are graded against standards based criteria. All assignments are practical oriented and will be covered during the class. There will be a one project that students will present in the class at the end of each semester. Diploma PC0000 Entry Requirements: Have at least one year s appropriate work experience in the IT industry and/or Can demonstrate competence equivalent to the above criteria that may be attained through appropriate qualifications at Level 5 or 6 or equivalent. Diploma All applications will be considered on a case by case basis. Further Learning: Graduates will be able to pursue further education including a degree course at UNITEC or another Institute. Career Opportunities: Upon successful completion, the graduate will be prepared to begin a career as a Server Administrator, Network Administrator, Database Administrator, Network Analyst, and Technical Support Systems Specialist, Virtualisation Specialist, Messaging solution expert, Share Point Administrator. 27
