All4Shop Ltd. company policy is to improve its products as new technologies, new hardware or software components come to market. All4Shop Ltd. reserves the rights to update its products with no early notification. Overview This guide contains simple installation instructions for ProfitAge POS and Back Office. The ProfitAge system is based on.net infrastructure and SQL Server database. For best results, follow the installation steps in order of appearance, as they described in this document. ProfitAge installation includes: Installation of Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Express Installation of SQL Server Management Studio (- Optional but recommended) Installation of ProfitAge ENG for an English work-station. 3 1. Installation of.net Framework 2.0 Perform the following steps: 1. Run Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 installation file (download link:.net Framework 2.0). 2. Click Next to proceed. 3. Read the license agreement and approve the terms by checking I accept the terms of the Licensing Agreement. Press Install to proceed. Page 3 of 25 Ver. 1.02

4 4. The installation process will start. When done, a message is displayed: 5. Press Finish to exit. 2. Installation of SQL Server Express Perform the following steps: 1. Run Microsoft SQL Server Express installation file (download link: SQL Server Express 2005). 2. After the file opens, the licensing Agreement screen is displayed. Read the license agreement and approve the terms by checking I accept the terms and conditions. Press Next to proceed. Page 4 of 25 Ver. 1.02

5 3. On the next screen, click Install to start installation: 4. On the next screen, the Installation Wizard will install several required components. Click Next to proceed. 5. Now, The installation of the SQL Server Express starts. Click Next to proceed. Page 5 of 25 Ver. 1.02

6 6. The Installation Wizard checks that all the prior requirements for installation exists and ok. Make sure that all the lines are marked in green and ok, then click Next to proceed. 7. On the next screen, Enter your name and company and click Next to proceed. 8. Click Next to proceed on the following screen also. Page 6 of 25 Ver. 1.02

7 9. On the next screen, check the Mixed Mode option. Enter a password of your choice and repeat it for confirmation. This password will be used later as the login password for the SQL Server. Click Next to proceed when done. 10. Click Next to proceed on the following screen (No change required). 11. Repeat Next to proceed on the following screen also. 12. On the next screen, click Install to proceed: Page 7 of 25 Ver. 1.02

8 13. On the next screen, you can follow the progress of the installation stages. Make sure the all lines are ok and green. Click Next to proceed. 14. When done, a message is displayed, Click Finish to exit: Page 8 of 25 Ver. 1.02

9 3. Installation of SQL Server Management Studio (Optional) Installation of SQL Server Management Studio is not mandatory for ProfitAge operation. However, based on experience, it is highly recommended by All4Shop to install the SQL Server Management Studio in order to make future maintenance more efficient and easy. Perform the following steps: 1. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio installation file (download link: SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005). After the file opens, click Next to proceed. 2. Read the displayed license agreement and approve the terms by checking 'I accept the terms in the license agreement. Press Next to proceed. 10 3. On the next screen, Enter your name and company and click Next to proceed. 4. Click Next to proceed on the following screen (No change required). Page 10 of 25 Ver. 1.02

11 5. On the next screen, click Install to start the installation process. 6. On the next screen, you can follow the installation progress. Click Next to proceed when done. Page 11 of 25 Ver. 1.02

12 7. When done, a message is displayed, Click Finish to exit: Page 12 of 25 Ver. 1.02

13 4. Installation of ProfitAge ENG work station Perform the following steps: 1. Run the installation file: ProfitAge Installer from the C:\ProfitAge directory 2. On the next screen, click OK to proceed. Page 13 of 25 Ver. 1.02

14 3. On the next screen, select the type of work station to install: Stand Alone (Default) Includes a full ProfitAge Suite (POS and Back-Office). For a Demo work station use this option. POS Store Point of Sale station only. BO (Back-Office) Back Office work station only. In the Password field on the same screen, enter the database password you defined earlier while installing the SQL Server Express (Chapter 3 Paragraph 9) 4. Click the Test button to test communication to the database. The system will try to connect to the database. When connected, a Passed sign is displayed near the Test button. 5. When the communication test is passed, press Install to start the installation process. Page 14 of 25 Ver. 1.02

15 6. The following message is displayed on the screen while the installation is in progress: 7. After a few minutes, the store details screen is displayed. Enter the store name, address and telephone no. From this screen it is also possible to define the work station id number. Use the default number or change according to requirements. Click OK when done. 8. When done, Restart is required. Press Yes to restart or No to exit without restart. Page 15 of 25 Ver. 1.02

16 5. Running the ProfitAge application Perform the following steps to run the ProfitAge application: 1. Click the ProfitAge shortcut located on your desktop: 2. If a Windows security warning message is displayed, Click the Cancel Block button 3. When running the ProfitAge application for the first time, the following message is displayed. Click Yes to continue: If you don t see this message, you system already contains some sample data. Make sure to reset the POS data prior to production operation of the POS. 4. Now, you are requested to fill in an activation key for the POS station (ProfitAge.exe). Enter your activation key (Contact All4shop representative for activation key). It is possible to operate the POS station without an activation key for a 3 weeks trial period. During the trial period, it is possible to fill in an activation key and continue working as usual. 5. After filling in the activation key (if available), click on the Activate button to proceed. Page 16 of 25 Ver. 1.02

17 6. The POS application is now running. The POS main screen is displayed and the POS is ready for work. 7. In order to run the ProfitAge Back-Office application, it is required to enter an activation key for the Back-Office as well. 8. From the POS main screen, Press M on the keyboard and then 31, or use the Menu fast key and then enter the Back office. Page 17 of 25 Ver. 1.02

18 9. When running the ProfitAge BO (Back Office) for the first time, you are requested to fill in an activation key for the BO (ProfitAge BO.exe). Enter your BO activation key (Contact All4shop representative for activation key). It is possible to operate the BO without an activation key for a 3 weeks trial period. During the trial period, it is possible to fill in an activation key and continue working as usual. 10. After filling in the activation key, click on the Activate button to proceed. 11. The system will ask for a user and password. Use user 1 with password 1 for initial entry. You can define users as needed as you go. 12. The BO application is now running. The BO main screen is displayed ready for work. Page 18 of 25 Ver. 1.02

19 6. Changing the administrator password 1. Right Click on "My Computer" and then on Manage 2. Click on the + of Local Users and Groups and mark the Users: 3. Right click on Administrator, Click the Set Password and then press on Proceed 4. Set a new password and confirm. Page 19 of 25 Ver. 1.02

20 7. Setup Windows for Automatic Login of a specific user 1. Click on Start Run, key in "control userpasswords2" and approve. 2. Uncheck the Users must enter from Press the Apply button and enter the user name and password you wish to automatically Login. Page 20 of 25 Ver. 1.02

21 8. Cancel Login screen after a screen saver... Enter the screen Settings Screen Saver. Uncheck On resume, password protect 9. Turn off Automatic Updates for Windows From the Control Panel, enter the Automatic updates and turn it off (or schedule updates to different time on which the client is not working). Do not leave any automatic updates during working hours - It will cause Restart in the middle of your job! Page 21 of 25 Ver. 1.02

22 Appendix 1 - Set up SQL Server to accept connection from computers on the network 1. Access: Start All Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Configuration tools SQL Server configuration manager. 2. Click the + next to SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration list and mark Protocols for SQLEXPRESS 3. Change to Enabled protocols: Named Pipes and TCP/IP (Don t change the other two) 4. 23 5. Mark SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) and restart it using the buttons above 6. Double click on SQL Server Browser (to open the Properties). On the Service tab, change the Start mode to Automatic 7. Save by clicking OK and start the service Page 23 of 25 Ver. 1.02

24 Appendix 2 - Instructions for activating replication component (between terminals) Description: During the ongoing operation of ProfitAge system, changes are made in the store s main database. The changes are made by the POS server or by one of the store's back office terminals. Some of the changed data is relevant to all the store s POS terminals and some of the data is relevant to the main database only. On any POS relevant record, there is a TS field (Time-Stamp), usually in fldts column of the table. The TS counter is a system counter, it is located in tblreplicationsignals table. It is increased by 1 with any update relevant to the POS terminals. The updated value will be stored in all records affected by the change. Host Replication Process - is the Master process, connected to the store s main database. The process is listening to any TCP/IP requests of the Sons. For any request, the process records the TS received from the Son in a waiting list. Every X seconds (parameter BuildInterval), the process constructs the necessary data to all those Sons listed on the waiting list. The data is constructed and sent to the Sons based on the lowest TS counter received until that time. Replication Client process - is the Son process running on the POS terminal and connected to its database. The process checks which TS value in the database is the highest every X seconds (one of parameters RequestInterval - by server response), and sends the highest TS to the Father waiting for updates that will bring him to be up-todate. After successful updates, the son receives the latest TS from the Master and uses it in the next request. Replication setup: In the DBReplicator.ini file, parameters should be set to connect to the relevant database. Set the Host in the store s main database and the Clients in the POS terminals databases. ReplicationMode parameter - determines the replication activity Set to 1 (1 = DB Replication). DBReplicationWorkingMode parameter - determines whether the replication will work as: 1 = Client, 2 = Host. ID parameter - set the process ID. Make sure that each store process has an unique ID (including the Host) HostName parameter - sets the computer name or IP address of the computer where you run the Host. ClearDBOnTSError parameter - determines whether a malfunction in the process where the client has requested a TS larger than exists in the main database - the main process will request again all the relevant data (This may happen if the office - back is connected to a local database instead of the main database). This means that the TS counter increased regardless of the data in the main DB and the data in the local DB may be old and out of date) Page 24 of 25 Ver. 1.02

25 After setting up the processes, you need to set up the way of operation. In the POS terminal definitions, set the parameter Activate Replication to True. If this parameter is True, a green/red light is turned on in the main cashier window according to replication status. On the server definitions, set the parameter ServerActivateReplication to True. Note: In a POS + Server (Master POS) Terminal, make sure the process doesn t start twice. Note: When installing a system for a customer, changes are performed directly to the main database or the local databases. Therefore it is recommended to finish up the process when all terminals are working on the main database. After all the initial changes, you can activate the replication and reset all local data (using the menu) This will make sure you receive the most updated data from the main database.
