3 Admissions Once you decide that Blinn is the place for you, getting started is easy. We maintain an open admissions policy, which means if you are a graduate of an accredited high school, hold a GED or already have a college or university degree, you can attend Blinn College. To establish eligibility, you must complete the Blinn College financial aid data form and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 7 CHAMPIONS Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, a 2009 graduate of Blinn College, the number one overall pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL draft and ookie of the Year honors that same year. Athletics Go Bucs! Blinn athletics boasts one of the most storied programs in the country, with 130 years of tradition and pride in the south-central Texas area. Blinn is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), egion XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. Men s athletic programs include baseball, basketball and football. Women s programs include basketball, softball and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn cheerleaders and the Buccaneer Treasures dance team. All athletic teams are located on the Brenham campus. 8 INVOLVED. Student Life Blinn College provides a wealth of opportunities for students to grow and develop outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in student clubs & organizations, the Student Government Association (SGA) and the numerous special events sponsored by the Student Life office. Student organizations encompass a wide range of interests and aid in the development of leadership, decision making, social skills, self-esteem and professional growth. Intramurals Blinn offers a variety of men s, women s and coed intramural programs such as basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, billiards, table tennis and more. Blinn College was one of just 23 colleges and universities in the state of Texas and the only community college to be named to the 2012 President s Higher Education Community Service Honor oll. The President s Honor oll is the highest accolade an educational institution can receive from the federal government for its commitment to service and civic engagement. This marks the fifth time in the last six years that Blinn has been named to the President s Honor oll In addition to being named to the President s Honor oll, Blinn has received Carnegie Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching. That honor places Blinn among the top five percent of colleges and universities in the nation in terms of documented public service. Academics Blinn s academic programs provide the same quality educational courses that a student would take as a freshman or sophomore at a four-year college or university, but at a much lower cost. Because individual learning is Blinn s top priority, we offer student-centered classes, faculty and programs that provide the academic skills needed for successful transfer to other institutions. Blinn graduates earn $9,000 more per year than employees with only a high school diploma - that s $270,000 over an average 30-year career. Degrees Offered At Blinn, you can earn an Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree, or a career certificate. The purpose of an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree is to provide students corresponding curriculum to enter the four-year institutions of their choice as juniors. The Blinn 42-hour core curriculum will transfer to any other public college or university in Texas. 10 CHALLENGED. Technical Programs When you graduate from a two-year program, you ll receive an Associate in Applied Science degree. Completion of a one-year program results in a certificate. Both teach specific career/technical skills to prepare graduates to enter the workforce. According to a recent survey by the salary survey website PayScale, an N with an Associate of Science in nursing degree, earns between $20 and $32 per hour, or $44,760 to $62,696 per year. 12 FLEXIBLE. Distance Learning Distance Learning at Blinn College is where convenience and technology bring you a world of learning options. For the person juggling a busy schedule, our flexible and accessible Distance Learning program allows students an opportunity to access an education from anywhere and anytime. Distance Learning courses provide the same quality of instruction and cover the same material as our traditional on campus offerings. They are regular, transferable credit courses. Online (Internet) Courses Students work within a virtual classroom, interacting with their instructor and fellow classmates using the tools within the online environment. During the 2014 Fall semester, Blinn saw a 24.3 percent jump in Distance Learning enrollment, with 1,267 students enrolling in online courses. In Spring 2015, the College s Distance Learning enrollment climbed 18.3 percent with 1372 students participating in online classes. Blended Courses Students attend class half the time with the remainder spent participating in the online environment. Interactive Video Courses The instructor teaches a class of students on one campus while connected to a class of students at another campus via two-way interactive video.
