The TDL 3G is a compact, self-contained, rugged 3.5G cellular modem accessory that provides all-day network accessibility to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth wireless technology capable handheld devices. The TDL 3G is the perfect accessory for field computers which do not have integrated cellular capability. The TDL 3G acts as a bridge between Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled handheld devices and the Internet, via the cellular network. The TDL 3G provides instant, reliable, and secure access to the Internet and to real-time corrections via a VRS network wherever you work. When used on the default Bluetooth 2G/25G connection (ideal for VRS corrections) the TDL 3G provides 12 hours of continuous network access. When used for data intensive applications, the Wi-Fi connection at 3G/3.5G/3.75G speeds provide 5 hours of continuous network access. The following Mapping & GIS handhelds are compatible with the TDL 3G: Trimble GeoExplorer 2005 series handhelds (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) Trimble GeoExplorer 2008 series handhelds (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) Trimble Nomad G series handhelds (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) Trimble Recon handhelds (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi where available on the Recon handheld) Trimble Juno SB handhelds (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) The TDL 3G is also compatible with computers powered by a Windows operating system (for example, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7). Will the TDL 3G cellular modem work in my region? The TDL 3G operates in 2.5G mode on GPRS and EDGE networks supporting any of the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz bands. The TDL 3G operates in 3G/3.5G mode on supported 3G and HSDPA networks supporting any of the 850/1900/2100 MHz frequency bands. The TDL 3G handheld does not operate on CDMA networks. The TDL 3G can be operated on most networks which do not require explicit certification by the network carrier. Does the TDL 3G come with a cellular connection / SIM card? To connect to a cellular network, you must purchase, install, and activate a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card. Trimble recommends that you purchase a data-only plan for your SIM card as the modem is only enabled for data. SIM cards can be purchased from cellular network providers or cellular device retailers. 3 Are there any user serviceable parts for the TDL 3G? No, there are no user serviceable parts for the TDL 3G. The battery can be replaced by a Trimble Service Provider; contact your local Trimble Reseller. Replacement accessories such as screw plates and USB cables are available for purchase. How rugged is the TDL 3G? The TDL 3G has been designed to meet the needs of customers working in the harshest environments. The TDL is rated IP67 (impervious to dust and immersible in water), operates at temperatures of 10 C to +60 C (14 F to 140 F) and is drop-tested to 120 cm (3.9 ft), on a steel surface. How do I wear/mount the TDL 3G? The TDL 3G includes a belt pouch and is small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket. Trimble recommends the optional pole mount pouch accessory for mounting the TDL 3G on a pole. What is the operating range for the TDL 3G? In Bluetooth mode, the TDL 3G is intended for use in close proximity to the connected handheld device, for example, when worn on the belt. In Wi-Fi mode, a handheld device can use the TDL 3G connection within typical Wi-Fi ranges (50 m / 165 ft indoors and 100 m / 330 ft outdoors). How is the TDL 3G powered and charged? The TDL 3G is powered by an internal 3,000 mah lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The TDL 3G can be charged using the AC power adaptor or USB data cable provided. Can I charge the battery in a vehicle? The TDL 3G can be charged using a common vehicle adaptor. When selecting an appropriate adaptor, ensure that the output is 5V 100mA 2A (2A recommended) with a mini USB connector. What can I do to prolong battery life in the field? The TDL 3G can be set (forced) to use either 2G GPRS/EDGE or higher speed 3G (3/3.5/3.75G) networks. Setting the band to a 2G connection can significantly reduce power consumption on the device, extending battery life in the field. The device is set to use a 2G connection by default. Is there an extended warranty available with the TDL 3G? Yes. The TDL 3G includes a 1 year standard hardware warranty. Extended warranties for 1 or 2 years are available; contact your local Trimble Reseller. Can I connect to a Trimble VRS corrections service using the TDL 3G? The TDL 3G is well suited to receive corrections from a Trimble VRS corrections service and can transmit these using Bluetooth wireless technology or Wi-Fi to a connected handheld. Page 3

No. The TDL3G is designed for data only; voice calls and text messages are not supported. Voice over IP services (such as Skype) are supported, but these are data-intensive and therefore costly. Can I switch off the wireless connections on the TDL 3G when travelling in an aircraft? The TDL 3G may need to be switched off in some circumstances to avoid accidentally powering on the device with the front Power/Switch button.
