Our goal is to be your home away from home during the next days or weeks. We are here to support you while you are receiving active cancer treatment. Read this booklet to learn about the Lodge and the services you can use. You can also check the Lodge s bulletin board for more information. Who can stay at the Lodge? The Lodge provides a place to stay for adult cancer patients. It is for people who are receiving active cancer treatment. The Lodge is for patients who live outside the Greater Toronto Area. The Greater Toronto Area includes Toronto, Brampton, Markham, Mississauga, Richmond Hill, and Vaughan. Each room has 2 twin beds. They are all shared rooms. If there is space, a family member or friend can also stay for a fee. The Lodge is a smoke-free building. 2
3 If you have questions, please call: Guest Relations Coordinator How do I book a room? If you are coming to the Lodge for the first time or returning after more than a month, your primary caregiver will arrange your stay. If you are a returning resident after an absence of less than 4 weeks, please call the Booking Office at How do I pay? Residents need to pay for each week in advance. Rates vary and information will be provided when booking is confirmed. You can pay by: cash cheque debit card Visa MasterCard American Express When can I check in? Please check in at these times: Monday to Thursday Sunday 7:30 am to 10:00 pm 7:30 am to 2:30 pm 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm There is no check in at these times: After 2:30 pm Saturday All day Sunday Before 2:00 pm; after 9:00 pm 3
4 What time do I need to check out by? On your last day with us, please check out by 11 am. If you need to, you can store your belongings in the luggage room until you leave the Lodge. The luggage room is on the main floor. What if I am only leaving for a short time? Always sign out at the Security desk when you leave the building, even if it is for a short time. When you return, cross your name off. This information will help us if someone is looking for you. It will also let us know where you are if there is an emergency in the Lodge. If you are leaving the Lodge overnight or longer please check out with Guest Relations in room 151. When you return to the Lodge, please check in again. If you are leaving the Lodge just for the weekend you will need to make a new reservation. Make your reservation on when you check out with Guest Relations where you will need to hand in your ID badge. You will need to check in again on Monday. Your room can change over the weekend. What items should I leave at home? Do not bring items of value with you. Bedroom doors are not locked. The Lodge is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Do not bring any electronic appliances (toasters, kettles). You may bring laptops and personal grooming devices (hair dryers, razors). Can I have visitors? Yes. Please let the Guest Relations Coordinator know if someone is going to visit you. Visitors are not allowed on the residential floors 2, 3, and 4. 4
5 What if I have questions during my stay? Guest Relations Coordinators are here to answer your questions. They can be reached by calling 7426 on your room phone. The Front Desk at the Lodge is available 24 hours a day to help you. If there is no answer, please leave a message. A staff member will return your call. What services can I access at the Lodge? Phones You can make free local calls from your room phone. Dial 9 to call a number outside the Lodge. If you need to call long-distance, you will need to buy a pre-paid calling card. You can also use the payphone in the hallways. If the red light on your phone is flashing, you have a voic . To hear the message, lift the receiver and press the Message button. When asked for mail box, enter the last four digits of your room phone number and then #. When asked for the password, enter the same last four digits and then #. Television Each floor has a lounge, except the 4th floor. TVs are in the lounges. Computers Resource Centre, Room 157 You can use the WiFi and the computers in the room. You can also bring your own laptop. 5
6 Meals Dining Area, Main Floor The Lodge provides 3 meals a day for all guests. Meals are only provided Monday to. Meals are served at the times below: Breakfast Lunch Dinner 7:30 am to 8:30 am 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Housekeeping The housekeeping team will clean bathrooms, empty wastebaskets, and mop floors. If you prefer to clean your own bathroom, there are supplies under the sink. You will need to change your own linens. You will get them on. On s, please strip your bed and pile sheets at the foot of the bed. Resource Centre Room 157 This is a library of pamphlets, books and videos. All the information was selected for patients. Here you will find Oncology Interactive Educational Services (OIES). This is an easy-to-use program. It provides information, 3D animation, and video interviews with patients. They offer stories of their experience with cancer. 6
7 Exercise Room 3rd floor, West Lounge If you are using equipment alone, please inform Security at You need to do this before and after you are finished. This is for your safety. Laundry Facilities Room B56, Basement You can use our coin-operated laundry machines. Social Activities Check the main-floor bulletin board for updates about events such as Movie Night and Bingo Night. Events are organized by Princess Margaret Volunteers. Garbage and Recycling We provide sharps containers. Please ask the Front Desk staff if you need one. Do not put needles and sharps used for injections and blood sugar testing in the regular garbage. Please recycle. Put cans, plastic containers and newspapers in the right recycling bins. The bins are located at the East and West end of each corridor. 7
8 Shuttle Bus The bus shelter is at the back of the Lodge. A shuttle bus provides transportation Monday to. The shuttle bus runs on a set schedule. Please wear your nametag on the bus. The bus driver will give you priority over non-resident passengers. Do not eat or drink on the shuttle bus. If the shuttle is full, please come back into the Lodge. See the Guest Relations Coordinator to make other arrangements. You may take small luggage with you on the bus. Keep all luggage out of the aisles. This is for everyone s safety. Please speak to the bus driver if you have larger luggage. You may or may not be able to bring it onto the bus. See the Shuttle Bus Schedule on page 9. 8

11 If you discover or suspect a fire: 1. Get to a safe place. Do not use the elevators. If there is smoke in the hallway: a. Stay in your room. b. Close the door. c. Seal the cracks around the door with wet towels or sheets. d. Dial 0 to reach Security. e. Wait for help. 2. Pull the nearest fire alarm. Alarms are located at the stair exits. 3. Wait for staff to give instructions through the building s speakers. 4. Do what the staff tell you. You will be directed to a safe place. If you hear the fire alarm: 1.
