1 STUDIO ONE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Semester Classes for begin on September 12 th and continue until May MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES CENTER STAGE IA (ages 7-10) Center Stage classes are designed to build the basic skills of the young performer. Students will be guided through a curriculum of techniques in acting, singing and movement. Each class will consist of mini vocal, dance and acting lessons that will include fun activities taught by two or more instructors. Students will also receive coaching in the art of auditioning. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Dance, Children s Acting,, Children s Voice CENTER STAGE IB (ages 10-13) Center Stage classes are designed to build the basic skills of the young performer. Students will be guided through a curriculum of techniques in acting, singing and movement. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Dance, Children s Acting,, Children s Voice CENTER STAGE 2 (ages 10-14) ** Pre-approval from the Educational Director is required to register** This advanced combination class continues from the Center Stage 1 curriculum adding travel steps, musical theatre moves and creating challenging dance combinations. Students will be guided through the process of developing character and scene work and will continue building their vocal and musical skills through exercises and songs. By the end of the session, they will have vocal and musical mastery necessary to sight sing basic melodies and two-part harmony, and perform choreographed songs in a

2 variety show. Students who have finished one full year of Center Stage or have received permission from instructors may enroll in Center Stage 2. Please call the box office for details. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Dance, Children s Acting, Children s Voice BROADWAY MUSICAL WORKSHOP (ages 13-18) Are you looking to find yourself center stage in a Company Theatre musical? Have you taken Center Stage 1 and 2? Do you love the idea of dancing and acting your way into the big splashy musical numbers we all know and love? BROADWAY MUSICAL WORKSHOP is your chance to learn from professional performers and guest artists on how to pick up dance routines, stand out and be heard on stage! Working on dance, music and acting and putting it all together to put on the biggest and best moments from Broadway past and present, this class will have you improving your skills and having a blast while we perform the best of the best with you! The best of the best! This class will perform a mini-revue at the end of the program based on the shows students have studied during the course. Offered exclusively at Studio One at the Company Theatre!!! Get ready to experience every aspect of bringing a musical to the stage! Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Dance, Teen Acting, Teen Voice, VOICE CLASSES CHILDREN S VOICE The joy of singing is the focus on this class for young singers as they learn how their body functions as a musical instrument and are taught basic singing skills. Students will become more confident as they develop their unique sound, vocal range and begin the path to becoming a good musician. Keeping the voice healthy and growing is a key component of this class. While most of the repertoire will be group songs, there will be opportunities throughout the session to work on solo material. Recommended Companion Classes: CS1A or 1B, CS2, Broadway Dance, Children s Acting TEEN VOICE CLASS (ages 14-18) The teen-age voice is full of possibilities! This small group voice lesson is for singers of all stages of development and will help students align their vocal instrument with vocal technique exercises. We will then apply the concepts and habits to a vast array of vocal music from art song to pop to musical theatre. Each class will begin with a vocal warm up and the remaining time will be spent working on group and solo music that has been assigned to help the individual progress toward being a more healthy, capable and expressive singer. Students will also be encouraged to become good singermusicians through ear training and music reading exercises. 3 TEEN VOICE 2 This course is geared towards the teenage performer who is serious about honing their craft. This class will work beyond the basic fundamentals of singing technique, refining skills in advanced song interpretation. This class is a great opportunity for the young performer who is committed to advancing their performance skills and wants continue to grow as a vocalist. Auditioning students should prepare TWO contrasting solo pieces, in 16 bar cuts. You may be asked to stay, or learn additional material at the auditions. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Musical Workshop, Teen Acting, Broadway Dance, ACTING CLASSES CHILDREN S ACTING 1 (ages 8-13) This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of acting technique in a fun and exciting environment. Students will explore theatre games, improve, monologues, voice and speech work, physicality, and short scenes! Recommended Companion Classes: CS1A or 1B, CS2, Broadway Dance, Children s Voice, CHILDREN S ACTING 2 (ages 8-13) For the student looking for a more advanced course, children s acting 2 is designed to teach the fundamentals of acting technique in a fun and exciting environment. Students will explore theatre games, improve, monologues, voice and speech work, physicality, and short scenes! Recommended Companion Classes: CS1A or 1B, CS2, Broadway Dance, Children s Voice, IMPROV (ages 12-18) The art of improvisation is a lot of fun for both beginning and advanced actors. The spirit of creativity is sparked through theatre games and participation in various styles of improvisation, resulting in creating scenes from funny or unusual situations. You will learn how to think fast and be a supportive acting partner. Everyone will take away valuable skills that improve you as an actor and add to your confidence in auditions and beyond. But mostly, you ll laugh a lot! Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Musical Workshop, Broadway Dance, Teen Acting 1 or 2, Teen Voice 1 or 2 TEEN ACTING (ages 14-18)

4 This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of acting technique. Students will explore monologues, voice and speech work, physicality, and short scenes, while being exposed to several plays and playwrights. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Musical Workshop, Broadway Dance, Teen Voice 1 or 2, TEEN ACTING 2 (Ages 14-18) This course is geared towards the teenage actor who is serious about honing their craft. This class works beyond the basic fundamentals of acting technique, refining skills in advanced scene study. This class is a great opportunity for the young performer who is committed to advancing their performance skills as well as their theatrical knowledge. Auditioning students should prepare TWO one-minute monologues in contrasting styles, and please be prepared to stay and read additional material if asked. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Musical Workshop. Broadway Dane, Teen Voice 1 or 2, DANCE CLASSES CHILDREN S BROADWAY DANCE 1 (ages 7-13) This dance class is for beginner dancers with 0-3 years dance experience. The goal of the class is to instill the basics of jazz and Broadway dance to students so they have good technique and the knowledge of basic dance skills including body placement, positions and elementary jazz steps. In addition, focus will be placed on expression and interpretation. Recommended Companion Classes: CS1A or 1B, CS2, Children s Voice, Children s Acting, CHILDREN S BROADWAY DANCE 2 (ages 7-13) This dance class is for dancers with beginner/intermediate dance experience, and would like to hone their skills in Broadway dance styles. The goal of the class is to instill the basics of Broadway dance styles to students so they have a well-rounded technique and the knowledge of advanced musical theatre dance skills. This class is perfect for the Musical Theatre student looking to further their skills in both dance and performance ability. Recommended Companion Classes: CS1A or 1B, CS2, Children s Voice, Children s Acting, TEEN BROADWAY DANCE 1 (ages 14-18)

5 This dance class is for beginner dancers with 0-3 years dance experience. The goal of the class is to instill the basics of jazz and Broadway dance to students so they have good technique and the knowledge of basic dance skills including body placement, positions and elementary jazz steps. In addition, focus will be placed on expression and interpretation. Recommended Companion Classes: Broadway Musical Workshop, Teen Voice, Teen Acting, TEEN BROADWAY DANCE 2 (ages 14-18) This dance class is for dancers with intermediate to advanced dance experience, and would like to hone their skills in Broadway dance styles. The goal of the class is to instill the basics of Broadway dance styles to students so they have a well-rounded technique and the knowledge of advanced musical theatre dance skills. They will also learn combination in various styles of theatrical dance that would be essential to any musical theatre performer.
