Your Training Fund The Training Fund is designed to guide and support your educational and career advancement while meeting the workforce needs of your employer. We function as a partnership between your union and your employer. All Training Fund benefits are free to eligible employees. Tuition assistance for healthcare-related degrees and certificate programs Professional development through continuing education classes and RN certification exams Workshops to prepare you for college classes and programs Tutoring support throughout your education Career counseling to guide your education so you reach your career goals

3 Eligibility To be eligible for the Training Fund you must: Work in a participating SEIU Healthcare 1199NW bargaining unit Be a full- or part-time employee Pass your employer s probationary period For Tuition Assistance you must: Meet the above criteria Be employed for one year from date of hire Have no written corrective action on file for the past year Sign a Service Agreement Your Training Fund Tochukwu (TC) Anamelechi, RN, UW Medicine, Northwest Hospital TC completed his ADN.

4 Career Counseling You have many healthcare education opportunities to consider. Our case managers help you develop an education plan that best suits your skills, needs, and personal circumstance. We ll advise you on the programs and benefits available in your area of interest and the next steps towards achieving your academic and career goals. We talked about my goals and what I wanted from my education. Most of all, my counselor believed in me and made me feel like I could do it! 5 Tutoring Our tutoring program lends support so you can master your subject. We provide high quality tutoring in Math, Sciences, and English/Writing. Small group and drop-in sessions are arranged according to your needs and schedules. We also offer on-line tutoring with Tutor.com which can be accessed 24/7 from any internet-enabled computer or mobile device. Request a tutor at The Training Fund provided tutors who got me though a statistics course. I don t believe I would have passed otherwise. 6 Workshops As a returning student you may need to take college preparatory or prerequisite classes. The Training Fund hosts workshops that are offered at convenient day and evening times. College prep workshops include: COMPASS and other test preparation Anatomy and Physiology workshops Intro to Online Learning Basic English and math classes I wanted to start my nursing education but didn t know how. Then I heard about the Training Fund through my union. I m now enrolled in North Seattle Community College and close to finishing my prerequisites. Mussie Tesfai, Instrument Tech, UW Medicine, Northwest Hospital Mussie is completing nursing prerequisite classes.

7 We also offer workshops in a variety of areas to enhance your on-the-job effectiveness. You can request a workshop on our website, Workshops include: English as a Second Language Basic computer skills Spanish for Healthcare Workshops These classes are convenient for working people like me. The instructor is down to earth and I like the small class size where I get individual time with the teacher. The Training Fund made it easy for me to go back to school and succeed. Melissa Powe, MA, Group Health Cooperative Melissa is completing nursing prerequisite classes.

8 Professional Development The Training Fund can help you keep current with on-the-job skills and innovations in today s rapidly changing healthcare system. You can be reimbursed for classes and exam fees, participate in professional memberships, or take Continuing Education Units (CEUs). By attending the CleanMed conference, I learned what others are doing to improve their practices and make their hospitals more green. I m thankful for the opportunities given to me through the Training Fund. David Perez, EVS II, UW Medicine, Northwest Hospital David earned a Sustainability in Healthcare certificate and Technology in Sustainability certificate.

9 As a service or pro/tech worker, you can be reimbursed for classes and exams related to your job development. As an RN, you can be reimbursed for specialty nurse certification exam fees. Up to $300 per year, per individual is available through the Professional Development program. Not only did taking and passing the exam give me a dollar more an hour, but it also made me feel on par with my colleagues having these credentials. 10 Tuition Assistance Juggling a full-time job and family responsibilities can make it challenging to return to school. Your Tuition Assistance benefit helps relieve your school-related costs so you can focus on your studies. It pays for tuition, books, and other fees for approved programs. The annual benefit amount is pro-rated for part-time employees. As a non-resident, subject to the highest category of tuition, the Training Fund helped me achieve my goal. Now with a BSN degree, I believe it will add value to my profession and my future development. Chris Duong, RN, Swedish Medical Center, First Hill Chris is pursuing his MSN degree.

11 When you enroll in the Tuition Assistance program, you also receive a variety of educational support services to help you succeed, such as tutoring and individual case management. To apply for your Tuition Assistance benefit complete an online form on our website, Tuition Assistance Going back to school has helped me grow personally and professionally.
