: : AVA - TOWN: In May 2010, the European Union presented the Digital Agenda as one of the seven fl agship initiatives for inclusive, intelligent and sustainable growth. The goal is by 2020 but broadband should be available to all citizens in the European Union by So, it s not a question of digging up holes in the asphalt for optic fi bre but of a broader project that aims at creating Smart cities, the cities of the future where people and objects can communicate through a large technological and intangible infrastructure, integrating information and generating intelligence, promoting inclusion and improving our everyday life. In a smart city, it is possible to construct a social innovation agenda that uses the plethora of data received and processed in real time to deal with such complex problems as reducing polluting emissions, new mobility, more sustainable homes, a more effi cient health system, fair and technological welfare for an ageing society. In other words, the digital city is memory and culture made available online: a digital historical archive that reminds old and new citizens the roots to their side-by-side living; municipal libraries that open up to the Web; attention as to how the city is represented online, from its institutional sites to Wikipedia, from YouTube to Facebook, because in the Internet era that is the only city that most of the world sees. The digital city is integration: with its many new citizens coming from different cultures, the Web is an opportunity to be included in the life of the city. The digital city is democratic participation: utmost opening and transparency by local government authorities but also new ways of involving local citizens in planning their common future and in making concurring choices. The digital city is «open data»: all the data produced by the workings of the city council is made available online at no cost so anybody and everybody can use it for innovative business and civic ideas. Data relating to public transport, to the environment, to waste, to parking, to business opening hours and much, much more: the digital city frees all its data to leave room for innovation. The digital city procures sensors, in other words it generates bits and then it uses them to reduce consumption, to improve transport, to keep down costs, to lower pollution. The digital city facilitates the creation of the best jobs for the future, almost all of these are connected to the digital world. Basically, it s all about culture, infrastructures, economy, literacy, inclusion, democracy, work: the digital city is across-the-board and affects all activities.
: : Will address specifi c topics related to modal integration (and interoperability), management effi ciency and quality of service: in the railway sector will be presented the new trains that the industry offers for transport on a regional scale based on renovation projects of the major hubs of metropolitan cities. For urban systems will be devoted considerable space to mass rapid public transport planning models which evolve into protected surface systems, technologically advanced, also wire-free, and that incorporate the most important innovations related to energy saving solutions. The 2012 MobilityTech edition will see, together with the traditional innovative electric propulsion systems (hybrid buses and trolley buses), the most recent experiments in the fi eld of fuel cell vehicles powered with hydrogen. Electric cars, hybrids, charging systems, electric motorcycles and electric bicycles will complete the picture of innovation in the fi eld of Clean Mobility planning of our cities. The outdoor exhibition area will also be showcased: like always, it will stage a display of low- or zeroenvironmental-impact vehicles and will be connected to the event venue via a virtual route. The core principles that have always defi ned the different MobilityTech conferences over the years will therefore be summarised and collected through a program that will also host specialist workshops recognised by the industry as the most important at the national level for drawing comparisons and acquiring up-to-date information. The opening institutional session, an excellent opportunity for networking, with signifi cant media outcomes, will take place within AVA - TOWN and will involve leading industry players who will meet to debate the theme of.
: : HACKATHONS OF MOBILITY What is a hackathon? A hackathon, a hacker neologism, is an event where teams of software developers design, assemble and demo a software project together. It s a kind of brainstorming session to generate new ideas. The spirit of the hackathon is manifested in the actual programming activity but above all, this approach frees coders from normal constrictions and gives them free reign. This is also why hackathons have no set timeframe although they usually last from a couple of days through to a week. MobilityTech will be hosting the fi rst edition of the mobility hackathons: in its citizen outreach processes the digital city - the smart city - puts itself to the test to involve and embrace the energy and creativity of the young people involved in elaborating typical public transport themes. The current cultural climate highlights two phenomena that are a clear break from the recent past. The fi rst is the necessity to share facts, episodes, emotions; the second is the need to do this live. The success of social networks and of the world wide web in general, is the extreme synthesis of this culture; a skyscraper whose pillars are transparency, speed and communion, where the community can freely express its constructive or destructive potential. On the one hand, grasping the opportunities provided by this world means opening up to some of our targets in a new, attractive way, signifi cantly rejuvenating the image of institutions; on the other hand, it means using their capacities to give the community new, practical and cost-effective services.
: : THE OBJECTIVES The 2012 MobilityTech conference represents a unique opportunity for industry businesses to meet with public authorities and to show professionals the latest technological innovations relating to mobility in its broadest sense and to the development of a digital city. From a cultural perspective, the event will offer participants well-structured opportunities for debate and systematic examination, focused on industry developments to give a detailed picture of today s technological, regulatory, and industrial advances. The event is structured around the following key words: Environment - City - Mobility - Technology - Transport : : OUTDOOR EXHIBITION The area in front of the selected venue will host, like in the past editions, the traditional exhibition of innovative vehicles, perfectly staged in an urban setting, in the driving force of a large city, directly applying technological innovation and new policies in mobility regulation and eco-friendly transport. An area will be specifi cally reserved for test-driving the latest devices in individual sustainable mobility (electric and hybrid cars, electric bicycles and motorcycles), also serving to attract a wider audience. Demo test runs aboard innovative buses, trolley buses and trams will be also arranged.
: : MEDIA The 6th MobilityTech conference had a formidable impact with the leading media: press agencies, daily newspapers, radio and TV, monthly and weekly magazines, specialist journals. Video interviews held in real time with exhibitors and attending politicians were broadcast on the social networks during the two days of the event. The media covering the event included: Il Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Il Giorno, Il Giornale, Libero, Il Sole 24 Ore, Radio2Rai, TG3 Lombardia, Espansione, Panoramauto, Quattroruote, Wired, Ciak, IlSole24OreTrasporti, Autobus, Onda Verde and all main mastheads online sustainable mobility. The 7 th MobilityTech edition aims to surpass the media coverage obtained during the 2011 edition.
