1 ISO/TC 163/WG 4: Joint Working Group (JWG) between ISO/TC 163 and ISO/TC 205: performance of buildings using holistic approach Sequence of ISO numbers for the set of standards and technical reports on of s Dick van Dijk (Co-convenor of ISO JWG) with contributions from Jaap Hogeling (Chair of CEN/TC 371 and, Leader of ISO JWG's Task Group on Strategic Matters) Annet van der Horn (Secretary of ISO JWG and of CEN/TC 371) January 11, BACKGROUND The intention is to come (eventually) to a complete and consistent set of ISO (EN ISO) standards on the of s (EPB). A systematic set of consecutive ISO numbers would significantly boost the awareness on this EPB series. During summer and autumn of 2013 the possibilities and limitations have been explored, together with the ISO Central Secretariat. 2 POSSIBILITIES AND LIMITATIONS A systematic set of consecutive ISO numbers seemed to require that a complete list of preliminary titles covering the whole EPB field had to be submitted to ISO Central Secretariat. The basis for such list is the modular structure in the draft Overarching EPB standard (currently CEN, pren 15603:2012, ISO JWG document N 175). In this way, as soon as there is a new work item, it would get the reserved new number from the list. Gradually, also existing ISO standards might receive the new number, if their scope is significantly changed (incl.: if standards are rearranged). Why ISO 52*** series? Because this series seems to be available And because E is the 5th and B is 2nd character of the alphabet

2 Limitations When an already existing ISO standard is revised without significant change of scope, it will keep its existing number. Flexibility The titles may be adjusted later, when actual work items are proposed and perhaps items are merged or rearranged Sub-numbers There will be a need for sub-numbering. This is no problem: standards can be split up into parts. Subdivision of parts is not allowed: Possible: ISO xxxx-1 and ISO/TR xxxx-2 Not possible: ISO yyyy-1-1 and ISO/TR yyyy-1-2 ISO standards & ISO Technical Reports This list covers both the standards and the corresponding technical reports. The rule is to number the Technical Report as the even part number (2, 4,..), following the odd part number (1, 3,..) of the corresponding standard: Each standard: Part 1 (or other odd number in case of multiple part standards) Each accompanying Technical Report: Part 2 (or other even number following the standard part) Example: ISO , performance of buildings Overarching EPB Assessment Procedures, General Framework ISO/TR , Technical report accompanying ISO CURRENT STATUS Early December 2013: Request to make a reservation has been sent to ISO Central Secretariat by Dick van Dijk (co-convenor of ISO JWG and project leader of EN ISO EPB standards to be developed or revised under the Vienna Agreement between ISO/TC 163 and CEN/TC 89), Jaap Hogeling (Chair of CEN/TC 371 and leader of ISO JWG's task group on strategic matters), and Annet van der Horn (Secretary of CEN/TC 371 and ISO JWG). December 2013: A number of the EPB new work item proposals initiated by CEN/TC 89 under the Vienna Agreement under ISO lead already made use of the new numbers. This is reflected in the new work item proposals. Early January 2014: The ISO Central Secretariat reconfirmed that the sequence of ISO numbers has been reserved.

3 4 THE LIST The titles are only preliminary. EPB Module ISO number M1-1, M1-3 ISO M1-2 ISO M1-2 ISO M1-4 ISO M1-5, M1-7 ISO M1-8, M1-9 ISO M1-10 ISO M1-6, M2-7 ISO M1-12 ISO M1-11 ISO Title, general Title, specific Comment performance of buildings (EPB) Including routing and modular structure and General framework applications Common EPB Terms and Definitions Common EPB Symbols, Units and Subscripts Ways to Express Overall EPB and EPB Requirements Assessment of the Overall Balance Overall Calculation Procedures Overall Measurement Procedures Space categories and Occupancy Schedules Ways to express and Categorize Indoor Environment Quality Overall Inspection Procedures Including Boundaries and Space Categorization (with ref. to ISO for list) and Aggregation to primary energy, etc. Including zoning, incl overarching building and technical building systems calculations Separate from the standard on indoor environment and comfort criteria, because the actual space categorization and actual occupants schedules in this standard are typically influenced by non-technical considerations, such as national/regional traditions of building and building use, building regulations, Both for design and assessment of energy performance of buildings. Between occupant schedules and this standard is the operation of systems (~ elements) and controls.

8 M13-xx ISO Appliances and other equipment - Special Calculation Procedures M13-xx ISO Appliances and other equipment - Special Measurement Procedures Some explanation on the list: The modular structure (see sheet) is a matrix, covering roughly the numbers: columns: 1 -> 14 (main numbers); rows: 1 -> 15 (subnumbers) If these main and sub-numbers are combined to one number, then too many numbers would be needed, e.g.: M1-1 (-> ISO ) => M14-15 (-> ISO ) Therefore, the more practical solution was a straightforward consecutive numbering, not reflecting the modular numbers. The topics at overarching level (module M1) have been rearranged compared to the modular structure, to better reflect the latest views. The topics at the building level (module M2) have also been adapted to reflect the latest views. The topics at the technical system levels (M3 etc: the different services) may evolve in the near future (in particular: possibly merging of items across different services); therefore the items from the modular system are kept for the moment. Where questionable if an item is relevant, the item has been kept, to give the benefit of the doubt, to enable to deal with special provisions, now or in future: two items are added for each series covering a main module: special calculation and special measurement procedures
