For full information about using the QABrowser please consult the Piranha & QABrowser Reference Manual or the Barracuda & QABrowser Reference Manual. Charging the handheld The ipaq handheld uses a standard mini USB charger. This means that you can charge it using either: The charger that is shipped with the handheld (recommended) A USB cable and your computer Your Piranha charger 1

2 Any other standard mini USB charger When the handheld is charging a yellow light should be lit at the top left of the handheld. If you connect any other charger than the one that is shipped with the handheld the yellow light will usually not be lit if the handheld is powered ON. This means that the charger that you are using is not powerful enough to both run the handheld and charge the batteries. So make sure that you power off the handheld, using the power button on the right of the handheld before you leave it for charging. By default the handheld will not automatically turn itself OFF when it is connected to a power source, but you can change this in the settings of the handheld. Go to Start Settings System Power, then select the Advanced tab and check the checkbox for turning off the device also when on external power. Please note that power off is not the same as when the backlight is turned off. When only the backlight is turned off you can still see the screen if you look closely. Installing the QABrowser Please note that if you purchased the Windows Mobile handheld directly from RTI or one of its distributors then QABrowser is already installed on your handheld. If QABrowser is already installed on the handheld, then there is no added value in installing the QABrowser software on your computer, unless you need to update the QABrowser. If you are using Windows XP or Windows 7 Starter Edition then you need to first install Microsoft ActiveSync (see below). Connect the handheld to your computer 2

3 Begin with installing the necessary drivers and software that comes with the handheld to your computer. Then connect the handheld to the computer using the supplied USB cable. If you are using for instance a Netbook that does not have a CD player then you can copy the entire contents (requires approx. 500 MB) of the CD to a USB stick and run the installation from the USB stick instead. Install the QABrowser on the PC Either download the latest version of QABrowser for Windows Mobile from My pages on the RTI website, or run it from the RTI Product CD. Run the installer and follow the onscreen instructions and then complete the installation on the handheld, by following the instructions on the handheld. If you have a memory card in your handheld it will ask you if you want to install the application to the Device or the Storage card. It is recommended that you install QABrowser to the built in memory, so select Device. Skipping the PC and installing from a memory card If your handheld has a memory card reader, then you can install QABrowser for Windows Mobile using a memory card. 1. Download QABWinMo.CAB from the My pages at the RTI website and then copy the file to your memory card. 2. Insert the memory card into your handheld. 3. Launch the File Explorer from the start menu. 4. Select Storage Card, from the top left drop down list. 5. Locate QABWinMo.CAB and click it. 6. Follow the on screen instructions. 3

4 Installing Microsoft ActiveSync ActiveSync is used to synchronize your handheld and your computer, and to install and update software on the handheld. So before you can install or update the QABrowser from your computer (you can also use a SD card, see above) you need to install Microsoft ActiveSync on your computer. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 (not Starter Edition), then Microsoft ActiveSync is preinstalled with the OS, so you do not need to install anything. If you are using an older Windows version, for instance Windows XP then you install ActiveSync either from the CD that came with your handheld or download it from the Microsoft web site. Removing QABrowser from the handheld If you want to remove the QABrowser installer from your PC then you uninstall it using the Windows Control Panel, just like any other application, but in order to also uninstall it from the handheld you need to do the following on your handheld. 1. Go to the start menu and select Settings. 2. Select the System tab. 3. Select Remove Programs. 4. Select RTI QABrowser. 5. Press Remove and answer Yes. 6. Select Delete all, but please note that you will lose all of your measurements and favorites. Troubleshooting QABrowser isn t updated when I reinstall it to the handheld If the installation doesn t launch on the handheld after that you have selected to install QABrowser to the handheld, then try to first uninstall the QABrowser (see above) and then installing it to the handheld again. ActiveSync says that my handheld isn t connected Try disconnecting the USB cable and then connect it again, if this does not work try restarting your computer and/or handheld as well. Minor differences between the Windows Mobile and the Palm OS Handheld If you are used to running the QABrowser on a Palm OS handheld, and start using it on a Windows Mobile handheld, there are some minor differences. 4

5 Tap quickly When selecting items you should tap a little quicker on the Windows Mobile handheld. This is due to that tap and holding on Windows Mobile is like a right click with the mouse on a Windows PC, it displays a context sensitive menu. Hardware keys You can t use the hardware keys to navigate the QABrowser with the Windows Mobile handheld; you have to press the Quickbar on the screen. You can use the navigator to go up/down/back/select, but you might need to first focus the screen by tapping it. Alphabetically sorted All lists are alphabetically sorted on the Windows Mobile device, for instance Radiography is last in the selectable list on the Windows Mobile device, but on the Palm OS device it s first. Connection lost The Windows Mobile device will not warn you if it loses the connection to the meter like the Palm OS handheld will. We are currently looking at finding a solution to this. Multitasking On Windows Mobile you don t need to close the QABrowser in order to do something else (like browsing the web or writing a document), just start the other application from the Start menu, or minimize QABrowser by clicking on the x. To show the QABrowser again, click the QABrowser icon in the start menu, just like when you launch it. No HotSync There is no HotSync in the Windows Mobile world, so there is also no transfer of measurement logs to the PC and Excel. Selecting the meter to use On Windows Mobile the QABrowser doesn t remember the last meter that you used, so you need to select the Bluetooth to use every time you launch QABrowser. 5
