4 Standard Industry Definition: Hybrid cloud computing is the coordinated use of cloud services across public, private and community service providers, or between internal and external cloud services. Like a cloud computing service, a hybrid cloud computing service is Scalable Has elastic IT-enabled capabilities and self-service interfaces Delivered as a shared service to customers using Internet technologies

5 Hybrid cloud vs Hybrid IT Virtually all enterprises have an ambition to augment internal IT systems with those of cloud services for various reasons Capacity Financial optimization Improved Service quality Hybrid cloud enhances the reach and value of IT services Hybrid cloud implies significant integration or coordination between the internal and external environments at the data, process, management or security layers Integration between private and public clouds whether private is on or off premises 5

7 What s the adoption rate for hybrid cloud? 20% Analysts suggest that no more than 20% of large enterprises have implemented hybrid cloud computing beyond simple integration of applications or services 10-15% This declines to 10-15% for mid size enterprises which mostly are implementing the availability/disaster recovery use case 7

8 Resiliency and Recovery: Value to the Enterprise This declines to 10% to 15% for midsize enterprises, which mostly are implementing the availability/disaster recovery use case cloud management platforms (CMPs) to drive policy-based placement and management of services internally or externally 10-15% A fairly common use case is in the high availability (HA)/DR arena where data is synchronized from private to public or public to private for resiliency or recovery 8

10 How easy is hybrid cloud Hybrid cloud computing is a fairly immature area with significant complexity in setting it up in operational form Early implementations are typically between private and public clouds, and not often between two different public cloud providers Cisco Intercloud announcement is a multi-provider hybrid cloud environment 10
