Using mineral wool as a sound absorbent layer in partitions will significantly improve their acoustic performance, whilst only adding minimally to the overall mass of the structure. The mineral wool complements the plasterboard by absorbing airborne sound in the cavity and reducing reverberation. It also has the effect of reducing the hollow sound that can occur in partitions with unfilled cavities. Timber and metal stud partitions faced with standard 12.5mm plasterboard and infilled with Crown Acoustic Partition Roll can meet the requirement for a 40 Rw db sound reduction in accordance with Approved Document E of the Building Regulations. Crown Acoustic Partition Roll is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment. 6 7.1 Product data: Glass Mineral Wool Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slab Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slab is a foil-faced semi-rigid non-combustible, glass mineral wool slab with a water repellent additive. It is 455mm wide to suit standard vertical wall tie spacings, ensuring a closed joint with adjacent slabs. Removes the requirement for parge coat on masonry separating walls Water repellent Slabs "knit" together, thus eliminating air gaps between adjacent slabs Non-combustible Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slab has been developed as an acoustic insulant in masonry party walls aimed at removing the need for a wet-applied parge coat. The normal internal lining of plasterboard on dabs, applied directly to the bare block face is then the internal finish. Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slabs are installed partially filling the cavity in the separating wall. The slabs are held in place with retaining discs in the same manner as a partially filled external cavity wall. They must be installed with the foil facing the minimum residual 40mm cavity with the slabs tightly butted together. The junction of the party wall cavity and external wall cavity must be closed to prevent flanking sound transmission. This is usually achieved by installing Crown DriTherm Cavity Slab or Crown Cavity Barriers. Normal practice is to continue the installation of the Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slab to the full height of the separating wall up to the underside of the roof. Thickness Slabs per Length Width Area per (mm) pack (mm) (mm) pack (m 2 ) Crown Acoustic Party Wall Slab is free from CFC's, HCFC'S and any other material with ozone depletion potential in their manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment. 8 7.1 Product data: Glass Mineral Wool Crown Cavity Barriers Crown Cavity Barriers are manufactured from a continuous length of non-combustible glass mineral wool which is compressed within a resilient polythene sleeve incorporating two flanges designed for ease of fixing. The polythene sleeve is colour-coded to suit a variety of cavity widths from 50mm to 100mm and eliminates the need for weather protection during installation. Meets Building Regulation requirements for both fire and acoustics Simple to install and fix due to flanges on all thicknesses Easy identification for stockists and contractors by coloured sleeving Dimensionally stable and robust Crown Cavity Barriers are engineered to prevent the spread of smoke and fire through walls, floors and cavities in timber frame, metal frame and masonry buildings. They are also suitable for reducing flanking sound transmission in these concealed cavities. The use of the correct size of Crown Cavity Barrier is essential. Crown Cavity Barriers are designed to compression fit in cavities. In the event of fire breaking into the cavity, Crown Cavity Barriers do not rely on the polythene flanges to hold them in place, but on their compression between the inner and outer leafs. It is, therefore, essential to specify the Crown Cavity Barrier by reference to the actual constructed cavity width. In vertical applications, both flanges of the Crown Cavity Barrier should be fixed to the inner leaf. In horizontal applications the top flange of the polythene sleeve should be fixed to the inner leaf. All joints and intersections of Crown Cavity Barriers should be closely butted. 100mm barriers are used for normal fire stopping and noise reduction applications. 300mm barriers are used where higher performance levels are specified and at party wall/external wall cavity junctions. Cavity width Nominal Depth Barriers Sleeve (mm) length (mm) (m) per pack colour yellow blue white yellow blue white Crown Cavity Barriers are free from CFC s, HCFC s and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment. Crown glass mineral wool s manufacture has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP. Acoustic performance Building Regulations require the use of a cavity closer to reduce flanking noise transmission along party wall cavities and external wall cavities in masonry and timber frame constructions. Crown Cavity Barriers meet the generic description for cavity closers and will therefore ensure compliance with Approved Document E and Robust Details in timber frame and masonry constructions. Crown Cavity Barriers are manufactured from glass mineral wool which has a Euroclass A1 fire rating when classified in accordance with BS EN Crown Cavity Barriers have been tested for fire resistance in accordance with BS 476: Part 8: 1972 and will provide 60 minutes stability, integrity and insulation. 732

59 Product data: Foam Insulation 7.3 Polyfoam Slimline Membrane Polyfoam Slimline Membrane is a non-woven polyethylene geotextile membrane that acts to resist the passage of water, but is vapour permeable. It is used in combination with Polyfoam Roofboard as part of the Polyfoam Slimline System for protected membrane roofing. Improves the thermal performance of protected membrane flat roofs Waterproof but vapour permeable Enables thinner insulation and less ballast to be used with no loss of performance Polyfoam Slimline Membrane is for use as a separating and filtration layer in low moisture impact protected membrane flat roofs. The water resistant properties of Polyfoam Slimline Membrane result in it reducing the flow of water through the roof construction. This means that the normal impact on thermal performance by rainwater cooling is negated compared with using a standard filtration membrane. This has been confirmed in tests carried out by the British Board of Agrément, as part of the third party certification of the Polyfoam Slimline System. Polyfoam Slimline Membrane is vapour permeable and offers negligible resistance to the passage of water vapour. The use of Polyfoam Slimline offers superior thermal performance so by using the same thickness of Polyfoam Roofboard you can achieve superior U-values. Protected membrane flat roofs using the Polyfoam Slimline system are lighter as less ballast is required. This is due to a vastly reduced floatation impact as drainage occurs above the insulation rather than below it. 66 7.4 Product data: Accessory products Knauf Breatheline Knauf Breatheline is a flexible sheet material consisting of a breather membrane with a polypropylene non-woven coating on both sides. The upper surface has a light grey anti-glare finish. Odourless Excellent tear and nail strength Flexible, even at low temperatures Lightweight Knauf Breatheline is used as a vapour permeable underlay in sealed and ventilated pitched roofs. It can also be used as a vapour permeable membrane in timber frame construction. The high vapour permeability of Knauf Breatheline means that the roof space does not have to be ventilated to remove water vapour. This keeps the roof space warmer and makes it less prone to condensation and the build up of dust and dirt from the outside air. Knauf Breatheline can be used whether the thermal insulation is placed at ceiling level or rafter level. Knauf Breatheline is non-wicking and so can be laid in direct contact with insulation and roof boarding with no risk of moisture penetration. Knauf Breatheline is free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ozone depletion potential in its manufacture and content and represents no known threat to the environment. Knauf Breatheline is 100% recyclable.
