UK, CTRL, 110 km Contracted in 2002, the Channel Tunnel Railway Link connecting London with the tunnel entrance on the UK side was completed in Italy, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, 8,600 km and SIRTI highspeed 400 km Italy s national railway awarded a turnkey contract in 2002 calling for a fully geographical redundant core system, 1,100 radio base stations, VMS, SMC, billing, an interception center, as well as network and fault management systems and operating services. These new high-speed lines are now running from Turin to Novara and Rome to Naples, with the Milanto-Bologna line under construction. Switzerland, SBB, 3,200 km The Swiss national railway SBB opted for a nationwide GSM-R project covering 3,200 km of main lines in 2002, implemented in five phases over the ensuing years. The first lines are up and running with full ETC operation. Tests across neighboring countries borders met with success. Belgium, Infrabel/SNCB, 3,000 km Belgium s national rail company Infrabel/ SNCB chose us as the turnkey supplier for a nationwide GSM-R system to be implemented over the next four years. India, Indian Railways, 2,000 km Seeking to adopt the GSM-R standard, India s Ministry of Railways kicked off the first of several projects to equip some 2,000 km with GSM-R infrastructure. 5 Germany, Deutsche Bahn AG, 7,000 km In 2008, DB AG awarded Nokia Siemens Networks a contract to extend its GSM-R communication system over another 7,000 km of lines. China, MoR, 1,600 km In 2007, the Chinese Ministry of Railways and China Railway Signaling and Communication Corporation tasked us to provide the GSM-R network for a high-speed line connecting Wuhan and Guangzhou. We will supply an end-toend solution including base stations, a core network, IN, and an advanced tunnel communication solution and services. Our first GSM-R project in China was the 470 km line from Jinan to Qingdao commissioned in 2004, followed by the second project, the Jingjin line in Saudi Arabia, SRO, 1,000 km Saudi Railway Organization commissioned a project for the Dammam to Riyadh line in The first GSM-R/ETCS project in the Middle East, this milestone in modern train control was jointly achieved by Nokia Siemens Networks and Siemens Transportation. project with Siemens will cover the 220-km high-speed line between Ankara and Eskisehir. Bringing unity to diversity with ERTMS Now that GSM-R has been selected as the data carrier for the ETCS signaling system standard, it is an integral component of the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System, comprising both GSM-R and ETCS).
