They cover GSM-R networks lifecycle fully, from design, implementation, and operation to longterm maintenance, with all the tools necessary for planning and managing networks and providing supporting services. Shaping the future with standards Nokia Networks designs, builds and maintains end-to-end solutions that raise the bar for others to reach. As an evolutionary force in mobile com and a charter member of GSM/ GSM-R standardization bodies that are driving railway relevant standards such as ETSI and EIRENE. Nokia Networks supports the most important railway associations, UIC and ERA, in defining standards for next generation railway networks. Nokia Networks has a formative hand in shaping GSM-R strategies, standards, and interoperability principles. To this end, we joined forces with leading suppliers in the GSM-R Industry Group (IG) and represent this group in the ERTMS MoU Steering Committee. Evolution to GPRS and LTE As today s GSM-R products move towards the use of modern hardware, we also expect GSM-R to evolve further, both functionally and in network technology. IP transport, introduced in R4 core networks, is also available in mobile backhaul connecting base stations. Investigations are already starting to define the requirements for a next generation railway telecommunication system. Nokia Networks expects this system to be based on LTE technology, the dominant mobile broadband communication technology for the near future not only for the public market, but also for mission critical public safety communication. Nokia Networks is driving the standardization that will see LTE tailored for the demands of the public safety market, where we see synergies in requirements and technical realizations applicable to railway communication. A first step for railway networks will be the introduction of ETCS to run on IP transport (GPRS bearer), which could be served seamlessly on LTE networks relying solely on IP transport technology.

8 The leading GSM-R solution The Nokia GSM-R solution is an advanced and mature solution to the communication challenges facing rail operators. As such, it comprises various state-of-the-art elements that are utilized both here and in many other Nokia Networks communications solutions installed around the world. These elements are in themselves flexible and are also designed to interplay and interconnect with one another thus permitting maximum freedom in design while offering the ultimate in reliability and availability. Interworking with other vendors is granted and proven in IOT campaigns. They include: Geographic redundant R4 core Nokia Networks geographic redundant platforms include redundant hardware, functional units, data storage and software. Different core network elements are based on the same common COTS ATCA hardware platform. Nokia Networks uses the second generation ATCA platform, 10Gb fabric Site 1 NetAct and 1Gb base Ethernet switching for all its products. The Nokia Networks GSM-R Core is fully based on the most modern open core (MSS-server, MGW, GGSN, SGSN) and virtualized platforms. This allows the implementation of multiple nodes on multi-purpose hardware. Site 2 NetAct GPRS The GPRS network, allowing the subscriber to access packet data services, employs two nodes, the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) and the Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). These enhance the network to fulfil ETCS level 2 requirements. The Nokia Networks GGSN is a highly intelligent node providing enhanced functionality such as QoS control at application level. Intelligent Network NT HLR and IN GPRS IP backbone NT HLR and IN GPRS MSS & MGW 1 MSS GGSN MGW GSM-R MSS GSM-R MGW MSS & MGW SGSN GGSN The Intelligent Network (IN) utilized is known as the Railway@vantage. This is an IN system dedicated to railways, being geographically redundant and specially tailored to GSM-R. It possesses all EIRENE (European Integrated Railway Radio Enhanced Network) features as well as many others also specific to railways. These include an Acknowledgement Center (ACKC) integrated into the IN, a direct interface to railway positioning elements allowing enhanced Location Dependent Addressing (elda) calls with exact train position, on-board functional calling and more. n SGSN GSM-R MGW 8 GSM-R railway communication solutions from the market leader

9 Radio This high-availability communications element with % reliability and 0.08 minutes unplanned downtime per year brings market-leading functionality to GSM-R. The Base Station Controller (Flexi BSC) and the Transcoder and Rate Adaption Unit (TRAU) are implemented on one platform. Railways can choose delivery as separate elements or combined in one node. For interconnection, copper or fiber may be used, with the choice of SDH, PDH and IP (CESoP). This supports full IP connectivity for Flexi Base Stations, making the solution both cost-effective and future proof. The Nokia Networks Flexi Base Station modular design makes site acquisition and installation easier, speeding up the roll out of network coverage in a new area. Flexi EDGE Base Station allows the use of existing site space sparingly and efficiently. Delivered with IP55 protection and an impressive temperature range (-35 C to +50 C, temporarily +55 C) it may be installed indoors or outdoors without the need for air conditioning. A fully functional macro-cellular BTS consists of only two logical modules which can be carried by one person. Capacity can be expanded easily simply by adding modules. The same modules are used in indoor and outdoor sites for macro- and micro-cellular solutions and can be installed on floors, walls, or poles. For coverage, the unit may even be distributed over a number of sites. For example, Nokia Networks Tunnel Solution is ideal for covering short and medium sized tunnels with no additional equipment. This covers the majority of railway tunnels (about 80%), thus reducing complexity and OPEX considerably while increasing network quality. Fixed transmission The major move in fixed transmission is towards IP and, to allow QoS, toward IP/MPLS networks. Nokia Networks evolved GSM-R network elements make use of this to suit the needs of the GSM-R operator. This introduces multiple connection possibilities on various service levels, offering high redundancy and the benefit of a multiple path environment. Transmission may be optical end-to-end via the numerous network nodes to further improve reliability and maintainability. Microwave transmission Nokia Networks microwave transmission, implemented using the FlexiHopper family of microwave radios, is integrated directly into the BTS, thus requiring no footprint and making installation easier. Its network management is also highly efficient and cost-effective, since it utilizes the same management platform as the radio network. Network Management The Nokia Networks strategy is based on the unique NetAct platform. This uses all element managers and features umbrella management that includes enhanced performance monitoring and disaster management capabilities. Open Mobile softswitching for railways with ZERO outage Nokia Networks MSC/VLR is delivered as R4 MSS and MGW. This allows railways to use IP technologies and offers the operator, in combination with sophisticated pooling and load sharing, a disaster tolerant system. Resilience mechanisms like MSS pooling, MGW cluster with virtual MGW concept and multihoming for BSC and SIGTRAN connections, ensure there is no single point of failure in the R4 system. Nokia Networks GSM-R core supports the GSM-R geographic redundancy concept as described in ETSI standards. NT HLR/One NDS and IN system NT HLR (OneNDS) and IN system are built on server blade architecture, making maximum use of virtualization. Nokia Networks is using its globally successful geo-redundant subscriber database OneNDS. This can be distributed via two or more geographical locations in combination with the HLR front end to deliver a HLR with no single point of failure. This provides seamless operation, no matter which part of the system may fail. GSM-R railway communication solutions from the market leader 9

The benefits are considerable, for example, a continuous flow of information can now be provided to on-board computers for calculating speed and braking profiles. With fewer fixed installations along the track, ETCS is far more cost-effective than conventional trackside signaling. Communication between drivers and other parties is handled by staff operating from signal boxes or control centers, using a Dispatcher Terminal designed to make the most of GSM- R s advantages. In the event of an emergency, calls are recorded by an Acknowledgement center, allowing fault analysis after the incident. Cab Radios from partner companies play a vital role within the GSM-R system. These incorporate all the EIRENE standards, ensuring safe, easy and efficient operation in any rail network equipped with GSM-R. Safety features GSM-R markedly improves the security, reliability and safety of rail services. For instance, it significantly enhances communication with trains passing through tunnels, affording far greater safety in case of emergencies. GSM-R will eventually be deployed across entire continents. Its total interoperability and compatibility will vastly improve the safety and speed of all railway operational services. And train drivers will be able to communicate freely throughout their journeys, regardless of the country they happen to be in. 10 GSM-R railway communication solutions from the market leader
