1 Αρχαϊκή εποχή π.χ. ΤΑ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΥΜΑΤΑ
2 Μέσα στα πλαίσια της πόλης-κράτους ασκήθηκε η εξουσία από τις εκάστοτε ισχυρές κοινωνικές τάξεις. Το πολίτευμα ήταν: βασιλεία αριστοκρατία ολιγαρχία τυραννίδα δημοκρατία Η βασιλεία διατηρήθηκε μόνο σε περιοχές που διατήρησαν τον φυλετικό τρόπο οργάνωσης, όπως στην Ήπειρο και τη Μακεδονία.
3 Με την καθιέρωση των πόλεων-κρατών έχουμε αρχικά αριστοκρατικά πολιτεύματα και η εξουσία ήταν στα χέρια των «αρίστων», δηλαδή αυτών που είχαν δύναμη λόγω καταγωγής και κατοχής γης. Με την οικονομική ανάπτυξη που επήλθε μετά τον Β Ελληνικό Αποικισμό δημιουργήθηκαν νέες κοινωνικές ομάδες, όπως βιοτέχνες, έμποροι, ναυτικοί, τεχνίτες, οι οποίες διεκδίκησαν μερίδιο στην εξουσία.
4 Ένας παράγοντας που έθεσε σε κρίση την αριστοκρατική δομή της κοινωνίας ήταν η οπλιτική φάλαγγα. Η οπλιτική φάλαγγα ήταν ένα νέο στρατιωτικό σώμα, στο οποίο ανήκαν πολίτες, οι οποίοι μπορούσαν με δικά τους έξοδα να πληρώσουν τον εξοπλισμό τους. Πηγή εικόνας:
5 ΚΑΤΑΓΡΑΦΗ ΤΩΝ ΝΟΜΩΝ - ΝΟΜΟΘΕΤΕΣ Στα τέλη του 7 ου και στις αρχές του 6 ου αιώνα εντάσεις στις πόλεις-κράτη οδήγησαν σε συγκρούσεις μεταξύ των ευγενών αφ ενός και των πλουσίων και του πλήθους αφ ετέρου. Η κατάσταση αυτή αντιμετωπίσθηκε με την καταγραφή του άγραφου εθιμικού δικαίου. Αυτή καταγραφή ανατέθηκε σε πρόσωπα κοινής αποδοχής, που ονομάσθηκαν νομοθέτες, όπως π.χ. Ζάλευκος και Χαρώνδας στις αποικίες της Δύσης Δράκων και Σόλων στην Αθήνα Πιττακός στη Μυτιλήνη Λυκούργος στη Σπάρτη
6 Μετά την πρώτη καταγραφή των νόμων, η συμμετοχή στη διακυβέρνηση (εξουσία) της πόλης-κράτους έγινε ανάλογα με την οικονομική κατάσταση των πολιτών και έτσι το πολίτευμα έγινε ολιγαρχικό. Η επικράτηση των «ολίγων» δεν έδωσε λύση στα προβλήματα του πλήθους, τα οποία παρέμεναν και σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις οξύνθηκαν, με αποτέλεσμα να ξεσπάσουν κοινωνικές αναταραχές. Κάποιες φορές αυτές τις αναταραχές τις υποκίνησαν ή τις εκμεταλλεύτηκαν ευγενείς για να πάρουν την εξουσία. Η προσωπική εξουσία αυτή λέγεται τυραννίδα. Ορισμένοι τύραννοι ήταν καλοί ηγέτες και φρόντισαν την ανάπτυξη των πόλεών τους και των πολιτών τους, όμως οι περισσότεροι τύραννοί είχαν βίαιο τέλος.
7 Πολυκράτης στη Σάμο Περίανδρος στη Κόρινθο Θεαγένης στα Μέγαρα Πεισίστρατος στην Αθήνα Με την πτώση των τυραννικών καθεστώτων στα τέλη του 6 ου αι. π.χ. επιβλήθηκαν στις περισσότερες περιοχές εκ νέου αριστοκρατικά καθεστώτα, σε άλλες όμως όπως π.χ. στην Αθήνα έγιναν νομοθετικές μεταρρυθμίσεις, που άνοιξαν τον δρόμο προς την δημοκρατία.
8 ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΚΟ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΥΜΑ Η λέξη δημοκρατία προέρχεται από την σύνθεση των λέξεων «δήμος», δηλαδή την συνέλευση των πολιτών, που είχαν πολιτικά δικαιώματα, και «κράτος», δηλαδή την εξουσία, την κυριαρχία. Συνεπώς στο δημοκρατικό πολίτευμα την εξουσία και διακυβέρνηση της πόληςκράτους την είχαν οι πολίτες, με κυρίαρχο όργανο την εκκλησία του δήμου. Κάθε πολίτης μπορούσε να πάρει τον λόγο και να διατυπώσει την άποψή του ελεύθερα (ισηγορία) και να συμμετέχει στη διαμόρφωση και ψήφιση των νόμων (ισονομία).
