We need alternative courses every race to eliminate the soldiers course. I still believe the pentastar race we did in Batemens Bay regatta's was a beauty.. all points of sail make for good racing, maybe the east mark is virtual? If there were more races then perhaps a 'drop' could be introduced as well. An overnight race to a destination would be good training for crews who would like to train up for longer passage races (Coffs Harbour). Longer races are very different than the short haul races Greg Barter RM/CS Received which we run and require different crew skill sets which means our crews who compete in both series are gaining a greater breath of training than those who just compete in the Short Haul Short Ocean combination. In addition the long haul programme is too short to have a reasonable handicap adjustment on the PPH model. - The initial handicaps in the short haul PPH were taken from the finishing handicap of the previous season. Maybe we could use the average handicap for the previous series as it significantly disadvantaged boats who finished strong last season. - I think the Club Champion should be decided on the CBH handicap results because it is supposed to be a measure of the which crew sails its boat above its potential. The CBH is a better measure of this than PPH. - I think the Long Haul series should have a higher weight in the Club Championship than the Short Ocean. - I think the overall season is a tad too long we could probably afford to drop some race days and maybe include some more sprint races to keep the overall number of races up. - After some initial confusion I think the new finish procedure is running well. - Overall I think the results procedure at RMYC is very well run. What our long term view of our relationship with CSC is something we should think more deeply about. I have marked YES to the question of continuing i our Michael Wolf RMYC Received racing with CSC, but it is a very marginal YES. CSC are difficult partners to work with. 3 6603 Big Kahoona I do not understand why this survey is limited to skippers only. The message to crews appears to be; we want you to crew and pay your fees but, we do not value your opinion. Just because skippers own boats, in my view, does not give exclusive rights to skippers to dictate our sailing program. Our aim, is supposed to be, to promote sailing. Sailing involves crews. The current start and finish procedures, where there is no start finish committee boat works well. I support the current start finish options where there is no committee boat. Sailing and competing is more challenging and interesting when we do not sail a soldiers course. The aim of this suggestion is to avoid soldiers courses where possible. Currently we have, in the majority of cases set courses. These courses are independent of the wind or conditions. I would like to see alternative courses, of similar length, based on the wind and conditions, to be decided on the day. Windward Leeward courses are only really feasible where we have fixed marks. With our current resources, laying of buoys / marks to set-up wind ward leeward courses is only really possible in a limited range of favourable wind and sea conditions. I would suggest that windward leeward courses be structured around fixed buoys, set marks rather than laying buoys or marks. I support a two week race cycle built around the Short Haul series. The Short Haul series which is our blue ribbon series, our #1 series. The Long Race series and the Short Ocean series, are programmed to clash. They are held on the same day. This splits the fleet. Boats are forced to choose one series or the other. This is confusing. The safety cost and set-up, plus finding crew for the Long Race series is a disincentive to many boats. What incentive is there for a boat to choose to race the Long Race Series over the Short Ocean Series? If the aim of the Short Ocean series is to encourage new boats and crews to compete in racing, then I suggest making the Short Ocean series a non-spinnaker series. This is a logical first step for a new skipper and crew, or for Steve McManus RMYC inexperienced race skippers and crews to gain experience, and is completely in agreement with the aim of the Short Ocean Series, to encourage new boats to be involved. The aim of having two series racing on the same day is confusing, so I do not support holding two directly competing series on the same race day. I support sailing at the RMYC. I also support sailing in a mixed fleet with CSC, but not at the expense of foregoing our traditional short haul two week focused sailing cycle Pied Piper Tony Towndrow RMYC Received Not in Survey 67 Color Tile our crew enjoy the 2 week cycle. especially crew with family. 7 Summary from comments above Program on a two week cycle is prefered by all Combined racing is prefered by all (although there may be some difficulties) Long Haul should have a longer overnight race to a destination? Majority happy with current program. Comments on two Harbour races to consider? Review method for starting handicaps for PPH series Alternate course needs nominating in program on those days the starter may not be able to set sprint or windwards courses. More use of alternate courses or GPS turning marks to provide windward legs. Four two handed courses is most popular.
