4 COMMERCIAL PILOT III EXAM PROCEDURES At the completion of this course, you will receive an I (incomplete) grade. This grade will be modified upon successful completion of the FAA written exam. 1. During exam week (or before) you must obtain a sign-off sheet from your AVI 231 course instructor then take the college final exam in the Testing Center. You must score 84% or better to be eligible to take the FAA written exam. 2. The FAA written exam will be given at the Testing Center. You must first obtain a sign-off sheet from your AVI 231 course instructor. See last page for details. BRING: 1. The required sign-off sheet. 2. Your MCCC ID card and/or a photo ID (e.g. valid photo driver s license). 3. A sharpened #2 pencil. 4. Plotter, ruler and E6-B mechanical or electronic aviation computer. 5. Optional magnifying glass, dividers. 6. Scratch paper will be provided and collected at the end of the test.
5 COMMERCIAL PILOT III GRADING POLICIES 1. During the course of the semester, unforeseen events may occur that will impact you. By all means communicate your situation with your instructor. The college s main telephone number is (609) The aviation department secretary may be reached at (609) The chief factors that will influence your grade are your attendance, participation and timely completion of assignments. Since we are an FAA-approved pilot school, there are no excused absences. All work missed due to absences must be made up. See your instructor for make-ups. You are required to attend ground classes for FAA certification. 3. For college grading purposes, if you are absent three (3) times, your grade will be lowered one letter value. Additional absences will result in further lowering of your grade or an instructor-initiated withdrawal. 4. You are required to take all unit tests and the final examination at the campus Testing Center. Each unit test must be taken by the deadline date and have a valid score of 84% or better. If you have taken the unit test before the deadline date and scored below 84%, you will have one week to retake the unit test and achieve a score of 84% or better. You are limited to three (3) chances per unit test to attain a score of 84% or better. All unit tests are averaged and represent 30% of your final grade. 5. Test extensions should be avoided. Taking the unit test on time is your responsibility. The first test extension will result in lowering your total grade by 5 points. The second test extension will result in limiting your grade to a B. The third test extension will limit your grade to a C. The instructor may opt to withdraw your name from the class roster or not permit additional test extensions if you begin to have difficulty with numerous retakes of unit examinations and test extensions. 6. Grading: Unit Tests 30% FAA Computer Written Examination * 20% Classroom Activities ** _50% 100% * A failure on the FAA computer examination will result in a failure grade for the class. ** Classroom activities include chapter outlines, in-class projects, in-class quizzes, classroom participation, homework and work assignments. Mercer County Community College Academic Testing Center
