1 EPEX Direct-to-Digital System for General Radiography Featuring... Versatility for a complete range of general radiographic exams The Hologic EPEX General Radiography System is a direct-to-digital, fully integrated imaging system for general-purpose radiology. Using a single digital detector, the EPEX system can perform almost all general radiographic procedures. This detector replaces both the wall and table Bucky in a conventional radiographic room. Designed for through and cross-table, extremity, upright, wheelchair, and stretcher applications, the system provides high throughput, spectacular images and longterm reliability. The EPEX system uses DirectRay technology to directly capture and convert x-ray energy into a digital image. The unique signal profile produced by DirectRay technology results in high quality digital images across the full range of general radiographic exams a necessity for the successful realization of an all-digital department. The EPEX system consists of the following components: DirectRay x-ray image capture system DirectRay Console Ceiling-mounted Omniflex tube crane X-ray generator Table and detector support
2 See the Difference with DirectRay Technology The Hologic EPEX system offers the highest image quality available in digital radiography because it is built to optimize the DirectRay amorphous selenium (a-se) direct-to-digital detector. Most digital radiography systems use indirect-conversion detectors. These detectors first convert x-rays into light and then convert light energy into electrical signals. Because light is used, the signal profile is degraded and resolution is compromised due to image blur. The Evolution of Digital Radiography Detectors Scintillator screen Film Scintillator screen Screen-Film System Storage phosphor imaging plate Computed Radiography Photostimulatable storage phosphor imaging plate Imaging plate moved to reader Indirect imaging CCD Detector with Scintillator Screen Mirror Scintillator screen Focusing Lenses CCD Cameras Scintillator (Phosphor or Cesium Iodide) with Photodiode Array Surface reflector CsI (Tl) Photodiode array with a-silicon Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) and storage capacitor Direct imaging Amorphous Selenium DirectRay Detector Field electrode Dielectric layer Semiconductor (a-selenium) Electrode collection array with a-silicon Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) matrix and storage capacitor Laser Productivity and Cost Savings Hologic s digital radiography systems have been shown to decrease overall exam time by three times compared with computed radiography systems. For a two-view chest exam, the productivity gain was four-fold.* * DeMaster D, Applied Radiology, March Productivity gains translate into cost savings through more efficient use of space and the ability to accommodate growth in patient volume with existing staff. There is also an operating cost advantage, since there are no cassettes to replace or films to process and store. Minutes Time for Two-view Chest Exam Total Exam Time Last Exposure to Review DR CR
3 Applications Through-table and Extremity Exams Upright Exams
4 Cross-table Exams Stretcher and Wheelchair Exams Optimize Patient Care The EPEX system allows hospitals and imaging centers to optimize patient care by streamlining their diagnostic imaging operation with: Reduced exam time no need for casettes, traditional processing, or exposure calculation time. Improved quality of care because the technologist stays with the patient rather than leave to process film or CR casettes. The potential to reduce dose due to the need for less repeat exposures. The opportunity to speed time to diagnosis with high quality, soft copy images. The capability to make departments more cost-efficient by saving time, materials, and facilities.
