2 LEGAL AND RESPONSIBLE SOURCING We revised our Responsible Purchasing Policy in February 2015 to include a more robust approach to due diligence and have updated the sustainability and legality certification schemes that we recognise, maintaining a clear preference for FSC and PEFC. For some species, we have introduced a certified-only policy such as for Brazilian Ipe, Russian larch and Gaboon veneered plywood. In 2014, 60.6% of combined purchasing by Brooks Bros UK and Midlands was either FSC or PEFC certified. For some products and species, opting for certified isn t always possible due to availability or commercial viability. In these cases, we have engaged with key suppliers to transition towards more responsible practices through, for example, training and use of DNA testing in species and origin identification that bring greater integrity to our supply chains. Since June 2014, Brooks Bros has sat on the TTF Forests Forever Environmental Committee, which plays a key role in shaping the TTF s strategy and industry leadership on wider sustainability issues.

4 Hardwoods North American Ash Used for the same purposes as English Ash. Excellent for use in mouldings, millwork and furniture. Works fairly readily and is capable of a good smooth finish. A lightweight hardwood which is noted for its stability. 5 Malayan Jelutong A cream coloured timber of excellent stability and generally good working qualities. The wood contains latex canals. These are small slits through the board, either in groups every two or three feet or scattered sparsely over the surface of the board. Good clean cutting can be obtained and the canals do not disturb the grain as do knots. It is a good alternative to Yellow Pine and is very suitable for examination work. African Iroko A timber possessing many of the desirable features of Teak - although not a genuine Teak. Suitable for advanced students. One of the most popular in the UK and is used for high class joinery work. Stains and polishes to a beautiful finish American Black Walnut* A moderately hard, heavy, strong, stiff timber. Grain will vary from very plain to highly figured. Works easily with hand or machine tools. Takes and holds paints and stains exceptionally well. The wood finishes beautifully with outstanding grain, colour and pattern.
