2 Note To Teachers, Parents and Caregivers Why Health Literacy? form? Health literacy is important for children because it can teach them life long lessons. Exercise and play is an important skill to have for the rest of your life and especially in a world of increasing sedentary lifestyles. Health literacy can be wrongly projected through technology like television which makes books like these very important for children to read and learn. Why this game in this We decided to write this game in this narrative rhyming scheme because it is interesting and appealing to children. This story not only teaches the game What Time is it Mr. Wolf? but also engages the children s imagination. Using the fairytale The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf and twisting it can capture the children s attention.

4 What time is it Mr. Wolf was the name of the game Since the pigs were really fast they knew they could win. They hoped that the scary wolf would remain tame And that his patience would not wear thin. 2

5 It just so happened that the wolf got a new clock. The wolf loved to show it off and tell the time. The little pigs used this as the game s starting block But the pigs had to wait till the moment was prime. 3

6 The next day the pigs arrived at the wolf s place This was where the game was going to begin. So the little pigs told the wolf they want a race And they are to be no longer bothered if they win. 4

7 The wolf agreed and asks when will the race start? The little pigs explained that it is when you say lunchtime! The pigs also explain how this race they stand far apart And move nearer to the wolf depending on the time. 5

8 The wolf and the pigs stand across the field What time is it Mr. Wolf?, asks the first little pig Well it s 3 o clock the wolf revealed. So the little pigs took three steps that were big. 6

9 The pigs are still far from the wolf in the field What time is it Mr. Wolf?, asks the second little pig Well it s 9 o clock the wolf revealed. So the little pigs took nine steps that were half as big. 7

10 The pigs now stand closer to the wolf in the field What time is it Mr. Wolf? asks the third little pig Well it s 6 o clock the wolf revealed. So the little pigs took six steps nowhere near as big. 8

11 Finally the pigs stand really close to the wolf in the field All three pigs this time ask What time is it Mr. Wolf? And without a moment of hesitation or yield LUNCHTIME! 9

12 The wolf quickly jumps from his seat So the little pigs turn around to flee. The wolf is hoping he will have something to eat But he didn t know the pigs were as fast as can be. 10

13 The wolf gave up, no one knows when The pigs made it home safe, earning the win. The wolf would never bug the little pigs again Not by the hairs of their chinny chin chin. 11

14 Education and Health Content What Time is it Mr. Wolf? is a classic game that every child should have the opportunity to learn and play. This book teaches children a fun and beneficial game that keeps them active and fit. The game keeps children active while providing them with entertainment at the same time. Since it is written as a narrative it can also engage a child s imagination and teach them to think out of the box when playing this game. For example this game can be applied to skating, soccer, or just plain old running. It is a great game to know for the rest of your life. 12

15 Authors Biography Ryan Gobeil: Ryan is originally from Humboldt, Sk. and grew up playing sports. He is currently a first year student at the University of Regina and is an aspiring teacher. Ryan has been playing hockey since age five and knows the importance of health and fitness from a young age. Kyla Bassingthwaite: Kyla grew up on a farm near Saltcoats, Sk. and also grew up playing numerous sports. She is a first year student at the University of Regina and is an aspiring physiotherapist. Kyla is on the Cougar track team and understands that fitness and sports can carry through your whole life. 13
