1 THE ADVENTURE TO MIAMI, FLORIDA These kids from Nebraska are going to a totally new place in United States, Miami Florida. Not sure what to expect we were all nervous and had a certain sense of excitement, we were all sweating and our stomachs were churning. But as I sat back and took a deep breath I realized that change isn t all that bad it is just how you accept the change that you have faced, because with change comes new things.

2 Last summer, in July I happened to be on a plane flying to Miami Florida. Good friends and I that grew up in Nebraska were going to Florida and the only people that we knew down there were Mike and Nick. The nervousness and the excitement of going to Florida was such an unusual feeling one that I have never had before. When we landed at Fort Laughter dale air port and got off of the plane and out side there was this unbearable mix of heat and humidity the sound of planes, cars, and people hurrying to get to there destination. We had no idea wear to go but we stuck together and followed our leaders who thought that they new were they new were to go. Turns out that they did we found Mike and Nick and then went to get on the bus that would take us to our hotel. After we drove through this large city we turned into the parking lot of our hotel, finally something that was familiar to Nebraska. The nervousness had left most of us and know it was just pure excitement and that unusual smell of fast food restaurants and sewage. Now it was time to kick back, relax and get ready for the five days of unfamiliar activities.

The nervousness and the excitement of going to Florida was such an unusual feeling one that I have never had before.

4 The next morning was different than my normal routine and there were a lot of things I didn t like at first, the crowded room, TV blaring, and that horrible tasting water. After that we had to leave to help with a vacation bible school we all knew that is was going to be different than anything that we had ever experienced but it could be good or bad depending on how we looked at the situation. When we arrived there were little kids running, yelling, and just plain out of control, not much different from vacation bible schools in Nebraska but the kids were different. The kids were a different color, some didn t have many manners and you could tell that some have had a hard life. All of us kids from Nebraska looked at each other and thought this is going to be scary. We were all sweating and nervous as ever but we just did what we were told and everything was fun and easy, we all wondered why we were so nervous. Nervousness is just a mental way of us thinking I cant do this or these people are different and I don t like changes. These little kids and the teachers made us feel like a part of all of the kids that were there and helped us cope with the changes that we faced, also we helped the kids get to know us and get used to how we were cause we were sure different people than they had ever seen. As the week kept on going we got a better sense for what all was going on and made the best of the week there at that church were we went to help out, but it was time to switch gears and help people that could barely make payments and feed there kids, this task was another huge change that was thrown in our laps and what were we going to do.

6 The pool, the beach, and the ocean were the parts that made this so fun. All of us had fun some more than others but we all knew that we could only be at the beach for so long before we had to go help those people that we didn t know, and that weird feeling of nervousness and fun was back but a little stronger this time. As we drove to the part of Miami know as water side my stomach turned and I was sweating uncontrollably and wishing that we didn t have to go and do this, but I thought the first place wasn t so bad so why should this place be bad so I calmed down got my senses and looked at this all different. The neighborhood and the people there was the only difference. After we were there the kids got to know us and we got to know them and it was just like we have been friends forever. After we got back to the hotel that night we packed up and sat around talking and waiting for the next day we could fly home. As I sat there I thought about how different it was down there but, this change was a good learning experience for them and me. I learned that what we fear is fear its self, and the only way to get over it is to just relax, have fun, and make the best of the situation. That night after we ate and went to bed so that we could get up and fly out early the next morning it felt like I wanted to stay but yet wanted to be home, and then I realized that our group and the people down there helped make me see that change is a good thing. After that last thought I closed my eyes fell asleep and was ready to be home.

and fun was back but a little stronger this time.
