FSH 14 It s time to take control of your breeding program. 19 PITUITARY ESTROGEN LH FOLLICLE MATURATION REGRESSION PRODUCTION AND GROWTH OF THE OF FOLLICULAR PHASE NO Introducing MATRIX TM (altrenogest), a dramatic new breakthrough in swine production. Now, for the first time, you can take control of the most important factor in your production chain your breeding program. Your breeding herd is the most important segment in your operation, because it has the greatest effect on pig flow, production volume and herd health. Just a small change in the number of animals OVULATION 1 2 bred each week can have an enormous impact on the farrowing crate utilization, number of 3 pigs per sow, number of pigs weaned per 4 week, reduction in variation and overall profitability. And new MATRIX can 5 help you maximize those numbers. THE CORPORA 12 IMMOBILITY REDDENING OF THE VULVA OUTSIDE INDICATION ESTROUS CYCLE OF THE SOW FOLLICLES OF SEXUAL MANIFESTATION LUTEA 11 PROGESTERONE PRODUCTION PHASE LUTEAL 10 6 MATRIX is the only product that lets you synchronize estrus in your gilt 7 pool for maximum operational efficiency. You can bring your gilt pool 8 into heat when it s most convenient and efficient for you. They come into 9 heat during the same period, are bred at the same time and farrow on the same schedule. CORPORA LUTEAL ACTIVITY Their pigs are weaned together, grow together, finish together and are delivered to the packer together. You ll have better flow management, with less variation, and your packer will receive a more consistent product. You can plan breeding and farrowing to fit your schedule, with predictable pig flow throughout the production chain. With MATRIX, you ll save labor costs, streamline your operation, improve production efficiency and increase profitability. MakeTheirScheduleFitYourSchedule.
MATRIX TM (altrenogest) Administer 6.8 ml of MATRIX per gilt once daily for 14 consecutive days as a top dressing in their daily feed allowance. Net Contents: 1000 ml Drug Facts: Active ingredients: Altrenogest solution 0.22% (2.2 mg/ml) Use: For synchronization of estrus in sexually mature gilts that have had at least one estrus cycle. Treatment with altrenogest solution 0.22% results in estrus (standing heat) 4 to 9 days after completion of the 14-day treatment period. Caution: Federal law prohibits extra-label use of this drug to enhance food and/or fiber production in animals. Do Not Use: In gilts having a previous or current history of uterine inflammation (i.e., acute, subacute or chronic endometritis). WARNINGS: User/Handler Safety: Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. Avoid skin contact. Wear vinyl, polyethylene, neoprene, butyl or nitrile protective gloves when handling this product. Pregnant women or women who suspect they are pregnant should not handle MATRIX (altrenogest) Solution 0.22%. Women of childbearing age should exercise extreme caution when handling this product. Accidental absorption could lead to a disruption of the menstrual cycle or prolongation of pregnancy. Wash off accidental spillage on the skin immediately with soap and water. People who should not handle this product: 1. Women who are or suspect they are pregnant. 2. Anyone with thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders or with a history of these events. 3. Anyone with cerebral-vascular or coronary-artery disease. 4. Women with known or suspected carcinoma of the breast. 5. People with known or suspected estrogen-dependent neoplasia. 6. Women with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding. 7. People with benign or malignant tumors which developed during the use of oral contraceptives or other estrogencontaining products. 8. Anyone with liver dysfunction or disease. Accidental exposure: Altrenogest is readily absorbed from contact with the skin. In addition, this oil based product can penetrate porous gloves. Altrenogest should not penetrate intact vinyl, polyethylene, neoprene, butyl or nitrile protective gloves; however, if there is leakage (i.e., pinhole, spillage, etc.) the contaminated area covered by such occlusive materials may have increased absorption. The following measures are recommended in case of accidental exposure. Skin Exposure: Wash immediately with soap and water. Eye Exposure: Immediately flush with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention. If Swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. MATRIX (altrenogest) Solution 0.22% contains an oil. Call a physician. Vomiting should be supervised by a physician because of possible pulmonary damage via aspiration of the oil base. If possible, bring the container and labeling to the physician. Effects of Overexposure: There has been no human use of this specific product. The information contained in this section is extrapolated from data available on other products of the same pharmacological class that have been used in humans. Effects anticipated are due to the progestational activity of altrenogest. Acute effects after a single exposure are possible; however, continued daily exposure has the potential for more untoward effects such as disruption of the menstrual cycle, uterine or abdominal cramping, increased or decreased uterine bleeding, prolongation of pregnancy and headaches. The oil base may also cause complications if swallowed. In addition, the list of people who should not handle this product is based upon the known effects of progestins used in humans on a chronic basis. Human Food Safety: Gilts must not be slaughtered for human consumption for 21 days after the last treatment. Environmental Safety: Place empty drug containers and used syringes, protective gloves or other articles that come in contact with this product in a leak-resistant container for disposal in accordance with applicable Federal, state and local regulations. Adverse Reactions and Potential Safety Hazards: Underfeeding of MATRIX may lead to the occurrence of cystic follicles. When Using This Product: A small percentage (less than 5%) of treated gilts may exhibit estrus (standing heat) during the 14-day treatment period. Gilts nearing estrus at the start of the 14-day treatment period may express estrus early in that period. Dosage and Directions: While wearing protective gloves, remove shipping cap and seal; replace with enclosed plastic dispensing cap. Remove cover from bottle dispensing tip and connect luer lock syringe (without needle). Draw out appropriate volume of MATRIX solution. (Note: Do not remove syringe while bottle is inverted as spillage may result.) Detach syringe and replace cover on bottle dispensing tip to prevent leakage. Administer 6.8 ml (15 mg altrenogest) per gilt once daily for 14 consecutive days. Treat gilts on an individual animal basis by top-dressing MATRIX on a portion of each gilt s daily feed allowance. To produce the desired synchronization of estrus in a group of gilts, treat all of the gilts daily for the same 14-day period. Excessive use of a syringe may cause the syringe to stick; therefore, replace syringe as necessary. Other Information: Storage: Store at or below room temperature, 77ºF (25ºC). Close tightly. 3 Now your gilts will come into heat on YOUR schedule. With new MATRIX TM (altrenogest).
Get your gilts working normal business hours. Until now, producers have had to depend strictly on nature for sequencing breeding and farrowing schedules. That required continually checking estrus in breeding stock, inseminating at varying schedules, and having manpower available seven days a week. But now, with new MATRIX Ț M you can synchronize and schedule estrus, put breeding and farrowing on a predictable timetable, maximize pig flow and increase profitability. With MATRIX, your gilt pool will come into heat within a 4- to 9-day 1 window. Semen delivery can be scheduled for maximum potency, and the breeding process is greatly streamlined, more efficient and more profitable. With new MATRIX, you can synchronize and schedule estrus, put breeding and farrowing on a predictable timetable, synchronize pig flow and increase profitability. Reduce costs and increase profitability. New MATRIX can potentially lower your labor costs, dramatically reducing heat checking and virtually eliminating weekend breeding and farrowing. 2 You ll no longer have to constantly heat check all gilts in the breeding pool, because treated gilts need to be checked only after MATRIX is discontinued. With MATRIX, up to 85% of your treated gilts will be in estrus within 4-9 days after MATRIX withdrawal. And the benefits of having such a high percentage of gilts coming into heat in such a short, predictable period can impact your bottom line in a number of ways. First, research shows farrowing rates can improve. 1 Second, you can potentially reduce the number of gilts needed to meet breeding targets. With MATRIX, the standard 3:1 ratio can often be reduced by one-third to one-half. 2 Fewer replacement gilts means more hogs for market and fewer outside animal purchases, reducing potential disease introduction into your herd. Third, with a more efficient gilt pool, you can be more selective about which sows to breed. And that can improve your genetic base. In short, MATRIX gives you more. More efficient breeding. More efficient gilt pool management. More efficient use of labor. And more predictable pig flow.
New MATRIX TM works like nothing else. New MATRIX (altrenogest) is a synthetic progestagen, the only product of its kind on the market for the suppression and synchronization of estrus. Progesterone is a naturally occurring steroid hormone with the primary function of maintaining pregnancy. MATRIX can reduce normal biological variations in reproduction and improve production efficiency. Non-pregnant gilts and sows normally have a 21-day estrus cycle, and heat usually lasts 24 to 48 hours. Natural progesterone concentrations increase about 24 hours after ovulation, and plateau between 6 and 10 days of the estrus cycle. If developing embryos aren t present in 12 to 14 days, the progesterone level decreases rapidly. Progesterone and estrogen levels change as the sow progresses through the estrus cycle ESTROUS CYCLE OF THE SOW 10 Estrogen Progesterone E DAYS OF ESTROUS CYCLE Administering the synthetic progestagen MATRIX for 14 days in the feed will effectively synchronize estrus in an entire selected group of gilts. MATRIX effectively mimics progesterone, so when females are fed MATRIX they will not come into heat. Because progesterone works by suppressing LH (luteinizing hormone) secretion, the final stages of follicular growth are blocked. When MATRIX is withdrawn from the feed, follicle growth begins again. Administered early in the estrus cycle, on day 1 or 2, MATRIX coincides with the normal endogenous pattern of progesterone secretion. PROGESTERONE MATRIX FEEDING E E INTERESTROUS INTERVAL (DAYS) Administered in the middle of the estrus cycle, days 10 to 12, MATRIX is initiated just before naturally occurring progesterone begins to decrease. PROGESTERONE MATRIX FEEDING E E INTERESTROUS INTERVAL (DAYS)
For females near the end of their cycle, days 15 to 18, after progesterone has reached undetectable levels, MATRIX inhibits heat until withdrawn 14 days later. PROGESTERONE E MATRIX FEEDING E INTERESTROUS INTERVAL (DAYS) After the MATRIX treatment period ends, up to 85% of cyclic gilts will reach estrus within 4 to 9 days. No other product delivers reliable control of estrus for predictable breeding schedules and pig flow, resulting in reduced labor costs, maximum operating efficiency and higher profitability. Fact is, MATRIX is the only product on the market that allows you to synchronize your females. PG 600 and MATRIX. 1 Fertility results from MATRIX confirmation study. Feeding regimen consisted of 15 mg of MATRIX for 14 days. * Significantly different from controls (p=0.036). To reach breeding goals, a program of PG 600 and MATRIX may be used. If replacement gilts are not cycling, PG 600 will induce fertile estrus in healthy, prepuberal gilts, over months of age and weighing at least 187 lb.; or in healthy, weaned sows experiencing a delayed return to estrus. If gilts are not mated during their first estrus, then MATRIX can be used. Intervet s swine reproduction management program.
