Parking passes: Temporary permits at Stadium Car Park can be purchased online for $14/week. o This will allow you to park at Stadium for 15 min in the morning for drop- off and 15 min in the afternoon for pick- up. o The University of Alberta is not responsible for any parking tickets issued. Public transit: For those campers who take the bus/lrt, instructors will meet them at the main campus bus/lrt terminal (near HUB International), if arranged ahead of time. Please notify the Camp Coordinator if required. Sign out: Please remember to sign your child out at the end of the day (unless otherwise indicated on your registration) so that we can keep track of your child s whereabouts. LUNCHES Campers must provide their own lunch every day except Friday, when a pizza lunch will be provided. We ask that campers bring a reusable plastic plate for pizza so we do not have to use disposable plates that are harmful to the environment! Microwaves are available at computer camp locations but not at space academy. For the safety of campers with allergies, please DO NOT bring nuts or nut products to camp.
2 FRIDAY GRADUATION / OPEN HOUSE Space Academy o Parents and guests are invited to attend the Science Academy Graduation at 3:15 pm on Friday. This will include an overview of what students have achieved throughout the week! Please meet one of the camp leaders at 3:00 pm at the pickup/drop- off point on the west side of the Computing Science Centre. Computer Camps / Workshops o An open house will be held for all computer camps/workshops on Friday. Parents and guests are invited to drop into the Computing Science Centre anytime after 3:00 pm to check out what the campers have been working on. Please check with your camp leader to find out which lab your camper is in. SPECIAL + MEDICAL NEEDS If you have any special needs or allergies, please let us know how we can help to accommodate you. Any specific medical concerns must be specified in our registration system so that we can do our best to ensure you have a safe and fun time. CANCELLATIONS + REFUNDS For terms & conditions as well as information on cancellations and refunds, please visit CONTACT US If you have any questions about our camps, please us at [email protected]. Thank you for registering for Science Camps! See you soon!
3 Computer Camp Software EDMODO Edmodo is a learning management tool used to digitally manage student resources and progress, and help organize our camp content. We are using Edmodo because: o We can organize our camps more efficiently o We can award badges for camp achievements o We can post materials for students to view after camps conclude o Students can post their work to their Backpack in their Edmodo account and access it later from another computer from home. Parent permission o Edmodo requires the creation of an Edmodo account and permission from parents of students under 18 years of age. See Edmodo s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. o Internet safety is stressed throughout camps: Students are encouraged not give out any information other than their first names on anything they submit to Edmodo; Nothing will be made public all work will stay within the course group; Some student work may be used or demoed in camps in later years (as exemplars), but no names will be used. You may choose not to participate and use Edmodo but we believe its benefits greatly outweigh any minor inconveniences. If you have any questions about the use of Edmodo, please contact one of the camp leaders.
