1 Facilities & Real Estate Metro Hall, 2 nd Floor 55 John Street Toronto, Ontario M5V 3C6 Joe Casali Director Real Estate Services Tel: Fax: [email protected] PERMIT APPLICATION INFORMATION All applications for permits are reviewed by the Application Review Committee, and are subject to a final farm inspection prior to issuance. There are three types of permits issued for stands at the St. Lawrence Market. The categories are: Category A - (Farmers) To be eligible for classification in Category A a person must provide to the satisfaction of the Application Review Committee documentation indicating the location of their farm, a description of the size of the farm, a current Farm Tax Rebate Notice, and sufficient receipts to indicate a working operation. It must be evident from the documents provided to the Application Review Committee that the vendor: (a) (b) (c) (d) grows or raises the product to be offered for sale at the market for a minimum of 30 days; and the land and/or facility used for producing the crop is owned and/or rented in the applicant s name. The rental of the land must be a direct land owner/permit applicant transaction; and the size of the land and/or facility must be large enough to produce the required quantity of goods offered for sale at the market during the growing season; and the primary function of the land and/or facility must be farming. If a permit holder who is currently in Category A sells his land and/or facility and does not purchase another farm within sixty (60) days from the date of sale, the permit to operate a stand at the Market will be revoked. Once a permit has been issued for a vendor in Category A the permit holder must meet and maintain certain tenancy requirements set down by the Application Review Committee; namely: (a) (b) 70% of the volume of goods offered for sale at the Market during the growing season (June through November) must be grown, raised or produced by the permit holder; and 30% of the volume of goods offered for sale at the Market during the off season (December through May) must be grown, raised or produced by the permit holder; and 1
2 (c) (d) to retain Category A status in the off season the stallholder will only be permitted to sell those products that are grown in Ontario during the growing season. (The year is split into two seasons, the growing season which is June through November and the off season which is December through May) and; imported products will be excluded during their equivalent Ontario growing season, unless the stallholder makes an application to the application Review Committee for an exception due to crop destruction. The maximum number of tables a stall holder in Category A may occupy at one time is six (6). Category B -Processors To be eligible in Category B a person must provide a description of either their farming operation, or their processing operation, as well as sufficient receipts to show to the satisfaction of the Application Review Committee an ongoing operation. Category B will include those vendors who: (a) meet all of the eligibility criteria for Category A with the exception of the requirement that 70% of goods sold must be self-produced; AND (b) (c) purchase raw materials for further processing resulting in a product offered for sale at the market; AND own and/or rent a piece of land or workshop large enough to accommodate the processing the quantity of goods sold at the market. The maximum number of tables a stallholder in Category B may occupy at one time is three (3). Category C - Resellers The category applies to all of those vendors who purchase goods and offer them for sale at the market without any further processing. Only these products are complementary to those sold by Category A vendors will be considered for Category C. To be eligible for classification in Category C a person must submit an annual permit application to the Application Review Committee indicating the type of product to be sold at the market and the origin of the product. The maximum number of tables a stallholder in Category C may occupy at one time is two (2). 2
