2 Children in Egypt 2014 is a statistical digest produced by UNICEF Egypt to present updated and quality data on major dimensions of child wellbeing. This chapter contains statistics on demography, including information on population size and composition, fertility, mortality and life expectancy. The statistics featured in this chapter are from national official sources. The appendix displays data from international databases. Data presented in this chapter are those available to UNICEF Egypt up to June 2014 and refer to 2014 and/or previous years. The child dependency ratio is the ratio between the population aged 014 to population aged 1564, multiplied by 100. The old age dependency ratio is the ratio between the populations aged 65 and older to the population aged 1564, multiplied by 100. The total dependency ratio is the ratio of the sum of the dependent population (aged 014 years and 65 or older years) to the population of working age, 1564 years, multiplied by 100. The figures reflect the number of dependents in the population for every 100 persons of working age. 5
