List: Five Important Facts about the Red Scare 6/9 January: Test: The Progressive Era and World War I History is a story. Semester Review Semester review activities will assist you in preparing for the semester exam. However, they cannot substitute for your own review and study strategies. The essays associated with the review will be written in class. Knowing the topics in advance, you may prepare notes to assist you in writing the essays. Notes must be in your own handwriting and fit on 1 sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. You will turn your notes in with your essay. The semester exam consists of multiple-choice questions and an essay. In this way, it s somewhat similar to the APUSH exam you will take in May. 10/11 January/ Semester Review (Discovery, Colonial America and the American Revolution): Be prepared to write a DBQ Essay on a topic from the years /13 January/ Semester Review (The Federal Period and Andrew Jackson): Essay: Analyze the impact of the market revolution ( ) on the economies of TWO of the following regions: The Northeast, The Midwest, or The South. 17/18 January/ Semester Review (The Civil War and Reconstruction): Essay: Following Reconstruction, many southern leaders promoted the idea of a New South. To what extent was this New South a reality by the time of the First World War? In your answer be sure to address TWO of the following: Economic development, Politics, or Race relations. In addition, you will complete a DBQ activity on the causes of secession. 19/20 January/ Semester Review (The Gilded Age, Progressivism and World War I): No essays today. Instead, you will complete a DBQ activity on the causes of the USA s entry into the Great War and watch a film on the war January / Exams (Ouch! No exemptions first semester!)

6 End of the First Semester Homework in 4 Parts: Fold a sheet of notebook paper in half horizontally. The paper now has 4 parts. Answer a question in each quarter (part). Do not exceed this amount of space to answer the question. Be prepared means you may prepare notes in your own handwriting on 1 regular sheet of notebook paper (both sides) to assist you when taking a Reading Quiz, writing an essay, or completing a DBQ activity. History is a story. So, when you write history, write a story! Homework We might call it homework, but it is not work. Grinding steel on a hot August day on a skid outside of the Machine Shop at the shipyard is work. Homework is an opportunity to learn something that is important and it is time sensitive. When you don t do it or do it late, you have missed the opportunity to learn something important at the time you needed to learn it. Please do not refer to one of my assignments as work. It is not work. Also, it s not my homework, it s your homework.
