7 SAFETY INFORMATION Set volume levels and other controls on audio and electronic devices before riding. Distractions can lead to loss of control, resulting in death or serious injury. (00088b) Set CB channel, squelch threshold and volume before riding to minimize adjustments on the road. Distractions can lead to loss of control, resulting in death or serious injury. (00089a) Do not select a volume level that blocks out traffic noise or interrupts the concentration necessary for safe operation of the motorcycle. Distractions or a volume level that blocks out traffic noise could cause loss of control resulting in death or serious injury. (00539b) There are no serviceable parts inside the unit; leave all servicing to qualified service personnel. Disassembly of the unit could result in equipment damage and/or equipment malfunction. (00172a) This manual explains the operation of the Boom! Box Infotainment system. Read this manual carefully and keep it with your motorcycle at all times. See the owner's manual for your vehicle for important rider safety information. Follow all the warnings, cautions and safety tips shown throughout this manual. See Figure 1 and Figure 2. Do not use any feature of this system to the extent it becomes a distraction and prevents safe riding. The first priority while riding should always be the safe operation of the vehicle. While riding, observe all traffic regulations. Pay attention while riding. Always concentrate on riding by keeping your eyes and mind on the road. For safety, program the system when stopped. Some features are limited when motorcycle is in motion. Perform system setup and get familiar with the controls and features of the infotainment system before operating the motorcycle on the road. Use this system only in locations where it is legal to do so. For additional instruction and information, see an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer and online resources at Navigation The data in the navigation system may be incomplete. Road conditions, including restrictions (no left turns, street closures, etc.) frequently change. Therefore, before following any instruction from the system, look to see whether the instruction can be done safely and legally. Safety First 3

Bluetooth and USB-connected devices will pause or un-pause. 30 Screen Menu Bar See Figure 6. Many screens have a menu bar at the top of the screen. The menu bar and its components change according to the screen being displayed. The title of the screen or function is located in the center of the menu bar. The screen title is not a selectable button. See Figure 7. NOTE Equal volume to front and rear speakers is indicated by the center circle segment. Enabling Speed Volume or Automatic Volume Control (AVC) The Speed Volume control allows the volume level to compensate for the ambient noise associated with motorcycle speed. The compensation can be adjusted to four different compensation levels. See Figure 20. Press the Fade/Speed Volume button to access the Speed Volume adjustment screen. 67 Route Calculation The default route calculation selects the fastest route (time) to reach the destination. Other preferences can be selected: Twisty, Scenic and Shortest (distance). Route calculations can be set for one-way or round trip. Avoidance preferences can be selected. Options include: Highways, Toll Roads, Ferries, Tunnels, Car/Train, Unpaved Roads, Seasonal Restrictions and Borders. Appearance The appearance of the navigation maps include: Point-of- Interest (POI) icons enabled or disabled, 2D or 3D map styles, map orientation with North Up or Heading Up, Motorcycle Icon and other graphical map items. The preset numbers appear on both sides of the screen. Presets allow the user to store preferred radio stations or audio media for easy access. All audio sources, except Bluetooth audio streaming devices, can have user-set presets. To store a preset: 66 Operation

Press and hold one of the Preset selectors (1-15) until a beep sounds. See Figure 51. The preset information will display on the source screen. 3. The audio system has a total of 15 Preset options. SETTING AND USING FAVORITES Favorites Favorites are similar to Presets. Favorites are user-set shortcuts to radio stations (Tuner), connected devices (Media), artists or songs that are listened to frequently. In select markets, an audio channel from SiriusXM can be programmed as a favorite. Storing items from a removable device as a Favorite is possible. These items can be recalled only if the source device is connected to the system. There are two locations of Favorites, the Fav faceplate button control and the list of Favorites under the Fav button in the Home screen. Category (Cat) In FM mode there may be various program types (PTY) available. Refer to Table 22 (North America) and Table 23 (other regions). Selecting one of the PTY categories will make the tuner stop when seeking or scanning, but only on the radio stations that broadcast PTY categories. Press the Cat button to view the current selection. If none of the categories are selected, the tuner will stop on every station available. Set All will stop at all stations that broadcast those PTY categories. NOTE If unable to find stations during a seek, tune or scan, check the PTY categories that are selected. A filter symbol is displayed when PTY categories are set. Seek, Tune, Presets and RBDS/RDS Seek: Refer to Table 22. This button changes the functionality of the Seek Up and Seek Down buttons on the left handlebar controls or passenger controls (if equipped). The default operation of Seek Up and Seek Down buttons is that a short press will automatically go up or down several frequencies until it finds the next strong signal. A long press will do a Tune operation (you will hear the static of the frequencies that do not have a station). When you release the seek button it ends with a seek function. When set to Tune, a short press of the Seek Up or Seek Down button will do a tune operation - the radio will stop on every frequency. A long press will do a seek operation, finding to the next strong frequency. 68 Operation

75 If the value is set to Presets, the seek buttons will change the audio source or station by increasing or decreasing the currently selected Preset. Scan: This button starts a Scan operation. The radio continuously tunes from one strong station to the next one until a station is selected. Each strong station remains tuned in for 5 seconds before the radio scans to the next station. To select a station, press the Enter/Select key on the right handlebar controls to select the station. RDS/RBDS: See Figure 48. Radio Data System (RDS) and Radio Broadcast Data System (RDBS) are both data channels that the FM radio receiver uses for displaying data. RDS is used primarily in Europe and can display Weather, Traffic and other text on the radios that support this. RBDS is the used in North America and is used to display the radio station name and/or Artist/Song name on the radios that support this. Not all radio stations transmit RBDS or RDS text data. When RBDS or RDS is unchecked, only the radio frequency will be displayed. Operation 69

Some of the functions described are not available for Bluetooth connected devices. USB Media Menu The Boom! Box has a USB port that allows connection of a compatible phone, media player or USB flash drive. See Figure 5. The USB port is located inside the Jukebox media compartment. NOTE The letter jump option may not be available in some of the sorts listed below. 72 Operation

79 Find: Enables browsing through media files by playlist, artist, album, song or genre. Playlist: If the device contains playlists, available playlists will be displayed. Artist: Enables browsing through media files by artist. In addition to scrolling with the up or down arrows (on right side of screen), letter jump option is available by pressing the letter located between the arrows. This option will display full keyboard screen. Select a letter for the artist sort and the list will jump to that letter in the artist list. Album: Enables browsing through media files by album name. In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option is also available. Song: Enables browsing through media files by song name. In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option is also available. Genre: Enables browsing through media files by music genre. In addition to scrolling with the arrows, letter jump option is also available. Seek: Begins playback of previous, current or next song. Presets: Scrolls through Presets. See OPERATION, Setting and Using Presets. Track List: Presents lists of songs. Pressing the "i" located between the arrows will display song information. Media Menu (USB and Bluetooth) Scan: The scan operation will continuously change songs every 5 seconds until scan is cancelled. To cancel scan (select the song), press the Enter/Select key on the right handlebar. Repeat: Pressing the Repeat button will enable or disable the repeat of the playing song. Favorite CB channels can be saved as Presets (see OPERA- TION, Setting and Using Presets). The CB can remain active after changing the mode to other audio sources (AM, FM, media, etc.). Adjust volume through the CB screen (see Figure 55). Use left hand controls to adjust the volume. A volume scale will be displayed while adjusting the volume. Transmitting over CB See CONTROLS, Boom! Box Hand Controls and Table 5. To transmit, press and hold the PTT button in the right hand control or in the Passenger controls (if equipped). To end transmission, release the PTT button. VOX sensitivity should be adjusted so that the microphones break VOX at a normal voice volume. The Intercom icon in the status bar may be helpful for performing the adjustment. In the Intercom screen, press on the - or + buttons to adjust the VOX sensitivity level. VOX sensitivity settings are retained between regular vehicle ignition cycles. VOX sensitivity may need adjusting if either microphone is unintentionally activated because the microphone misinterprets radio, road or background sound as conversation. om01726 Adjusting Rider Headset Volume 1. Select Contacts from the Phone menu. 2. Select Phone Book. 3. Scroll or use the letter jump to find a stored contact name. 4. Select the name and press the number. The phone book changes depending on the phone connected. If a contact entry in the phone book does not have a phone number stored, the contact will not be displayed. The Phone Book can display icons for home, cellular, work or other phone numbers. These icons depend on the entries in the connected phone. Show Details displays other information that belongs to the selected contact, such as other phone numbers or an address. The selected contact can also be saved to a local list in the Boom! Box system, by selecting Add to Saved Contacts. Dialing a Number 1. Go to Home screen. 80 Operation

If your Bluetooth connected phone is compatible, receiving and replying to short messages can be done through the Boom! Box system. To enable and read text messages: 1. Go to Home screen. 2. Select Com. 3. Select Phone. 4. Select Message. 5. Check the Enable SMS checkbox. 6. See Figure 59. When a message is received, the New Messages icon will be displayed in the status bar (6.5 models). The Inbox will display the number of unread messages. 7. Press the Inbox button to see the list of received messages. 8. Press the button for the incoming message to open the message. A Text-To-Speech (TTS) feature on the system will read the message. The message will be heard through the speakers or headsets. Rapid speech or a raised voice level will degrade voice recognition capability. Pressing the Voice Command button while the system is speaking is known as "barging in." The system will be interrupted and you can add or change commands. Proper placement of the microphone is critical to the effectiveness of voice recognition. When the Voice Command button is pressed on the left hand control, a beep will sound. The beep is a prompt to speak a 84 Operation

91 command. The system will present a list of possible commands. Trip Summary: This screen provides information for a current trip - start and end time, average speed, fuel used and mileage (if available). Record On: Checking this option will draw a line on the map for roads that have been used in the past. Compass: This menu item will display the Compass screen. Selecting POIs from the Navigation Main menu or from the slide-out menu will allow the user to find Points of Interest, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, shopping and other categories. Once the desired POI is found and selected, the Navigation system can calculate a route from the current location to the destination address of that POI. See Figure 72. The POIs can be searched by Category, by the business phone number or by name. Operation 97

Trips: Saves multiple addresses or destinations under a trip name. Trails: Saves a calculated route or retrieves a saved route. Emergency Designation Warning Secondary Menu See Figure 70. Select the Menu button in the upper right corner of the Menu bar. Options include: Location: See Figure 76 and Figure 77. Displays a bar graph with the GPS signal strength. If there is a strong signal, information for the current geographical location will be displayed. This can include the address (if found in the Navigation database) and the geographical coordinates (geo-coordinates). Select the button to the left of the geo-coordinates to access additional functions related to the current location. 100 Operation

107 Import: Allows the user to view the Devices Available screen. This display is a list of USB-connected devices. Saved locations, trails or trips can be imported. These files can be built using the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner ( NOTE Imported trips are limited to nine stopovers. Select a USB device from the Devices Available to view the Select File list screen. This screen displays all of the compatible files on the selected media device. Selecting a file from this list allows the user to view the available locations, trails or trips within the file. The file content list screen allows the user to select any combination of available import types or use Select All to import all available information into the radio's storage. After the desired list items have been selected for import, select the import button from the middle of the scroll bar in order to initiate the transfer. After the transfer has been completed, a message screen will be appear indicating the result of the transfer. Once the files are imported to the radio, the trips and trails can be routed to using their buttons on the navigation Where To screen. Individual locations which are imported onto the system can be routed to using the saved button on the navigation Where To screen. Export: Allows the user to view the Devices Available list screen. This screen displays a list of connected USB devices which are available for a user to export files to. After selecting a USB device, the Destination Export screen will be displayed. This screen contains a list of stored information that is available for export. Exported data, including saved locations, trips and trails can be shared with other riders or uploaded to the Harley- Davidson Ride Planner ( NOTE The USB device must be formatted to FAT32 in order to support exporting data. Select the desired list items and select the export button from the middle of the scrollbar to initiate the transfer from the radio's storage to the USB device. Once export is completed, a message screen will appear indicating the result of the export. The file contained on the USB stick, named H-D_NavData.gpx, can be imported onto other Harley-Davidson radios or uploaded to the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner website. Operation 101

113 AUDIO SYSTEM CARE Use only Harley-Davidson recommended products and methods to keep the radio, speakers and other audio system components clean and in good condition. Do not use any abrasives, polishes or rubbing compounds to clean the screen or other components. Use of other products or methods may cause damage to components. Replaceable Screen Protector BOOM! Box 6.5T/GT radios have a replaceable screen protector. Remove and replace the protector if it becomes dull, scratched or worn. Damage to the screen due to use without a screen protector will not be covered under warranty. Radio/Screen Washing Wash the screen and radio faceplate according to the washing procedure for the motorcycle. First rinse any heavy sediments from the screen. Use SUNWASH BIKE SOAP, water and an H-D WASH MITT to clean. Rinse radio with low-pressure water. Screen Touch-Up Cleaning Use glass or lens cleaner (without ammonia) and a microfiber detailing cloth to clean the screen between washes. If there are heavy sediments, first rinse the screen to loosen and remove those sediments. Do not rub sediments into the screen. Spray a light amount of cleaner on the microfiber cloth. Apply circular motions from the center and outwards. Use a dry microfiber cloth to dry the screen. Repeat the process as necessary. NOTE Do not use any screen enhancing chemicals or products.these can damage the screen surface. Speaker Care If a haze develops on speakers with a protective grille, use HARLEY SEAT, SADDLEBAG, AND TRIM CLEANER and a SOFTCLOTH or SOFT DETAILING PAD to clean. Do not apply wax or any other similar products on speaker grilles. Do not use compressed or forced air on speakers. Vehicles with saddlebag speakers are designed to prevent water intrusion and to allow water to drain during washing or riding in all weather. To remove any standing water from saddlebag speakers, open the saddlebags and gently shake any remaining water from the speakers. CARE AND CLEANING 107

115 2014 LIMITED RADIO WARRANTY Harley-Davidson warrants that your Harley-Davidson radio will be free from factory defects in factory materials and workmanship, under normal use and service, for a period of twenty-four (24) months starting from the earlier of (a) the date of initial retail purchase of the motorcycle on which the radio is installed, or (b) the third anniversary of the last day of the model year of the motorcycle on which the radio is installed. Any unexpired portion of this limited warranty will be transferred to subsequent owner(s), upon the resale of the motorcycle during the limited warranty period. If the motorcycle was used as a demonstrator or company motorcycle, then the limited warranty period may have started and/or expired prior to the initial retail sale. This limited warranty does not cover defects or damage due to abuse, misuse or improper installation, or any radio on a motorcycle which has been registered with Harley-Davidson as a collector's vehicle. To obtain warranty service, return your motorcycle with sound system intact, at your expense, within the limited warranty period to an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer.
