3 st Invitation to the 1 Scientific Symposium on Resuscitation The New guidelines: What is Changing and Why Dear guests, colleagues and friends On behalf of the Founding Board of the Cyprus Resuscitation Council, I would like to welcome you to our first annual meeting. The Cyprus Resuscitation Council has been founded as an effort to promote the latest standards and guidelines introduced by the European Resuscitation Council in order to uniformly apply and standardize resuscitation principles throughout the healthcare world of Cyprus. We also have the pleasure and the honor to welcome Drs David Zideman, Leo Bossaert, Anthony Handley and Jerry Nolan who will announce for the first time the new guidelines and standards of the European Resuscitation Council. This comes as a confirmation of the close collaboration between the European and the Cyprus Resuscitation Councils. We anticipate that this year's program will be useful to all of you and we hope that this is the beginning of a series of interesting meetings. This program is accredited for 6 CME hours by the Cyprus medical Association. Transportation The best way to travel around Cyprus is by car. It is possible to rent a modern car either before your departure or once in Cyprus with a local agency. Vehicles are available with both manual and automatic transmissions. As for roads, they are generally well - paved and modern, except for some mountain areas. The main thing to remember is that in Cyprus, driving is on the left, as in the United Kingdom. On the motorways, maximum speed is 100 kilometers per hour. Communal service taxis are another option. They provide connections between all major towns every half hour. Regular taxis are reasonably priced and are especially good options for airport transfers on the first and or last day of your trip. Notes and coins currently in circulation are as follows: Banknotes: C 20, C 10, C 5, C 1. Coins: 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents. Banking Commercial banks in Cyprus offer a wide range of banking services in Cyprus pounds, as well as in foreign currencies, and have correspondents in most major cities around the world. They are also full members of the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT). Commercial banking is based on UK banking law and the Central Bank of Cyprus supervises practice and commercial banks. -6-

Usually the Card symbol is displayed in the shop window or at the reception. All banks, shops, restaurants also accept Eurocheques and travellers cheques. 9 Telecommunications Services provided by CYTA include fixed telephony, mobile telephony (pay monthly and pay as you go), data transmission, telegraphy, maritime, TV transmission/ reception, private leased circuits, audio text, video conferencing, ISDN, DSL, Internet and ATM/Frame Relay. Fixed Telephony Services Customers can access from Cyprus essentially all countries in the world through telephone and telefax (for countries that do not support telefax service, telex is also available). Off-peak Telephone Rates CYTA offers reduced telephone rates (fixed telephony) for national and international calls during off-peak hours as follows: Off-peak hours for National calls: 20:00-07:00 during weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. Off-peak hours for International calls: 21:00-08:00 during weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. Directory Inquiries By calling the number 192, you can get a 24-hour service for directory inquiries regarding customers in Cyprus, whereas for foreign customers, country codes and area codes you can get information by dialing 194. Public Card phones and Payphones Public telephones of CYTA are installed at various central locations in all towns and villages as well as at International airports, harbors and other locations. There are three types of public telephones, Coin phones, Outdoors card phones and indoor card phones. All public payphones can be used for both national and international calls. In all payphones, dialing instructions as well as charges rates are posted. Telecards of 3, 5 and 10 can be purchased at any CYTA shop, at banks, post offices, kiosks and other shops. Coin-operated payphones accept coins of 2,5,10 and 20-cent denominations. Public telephones of other providers are also installed at various central locations. -8-
