Intermediate Course Code: SM3146 Course Duration: One Semester No. of Credit Units: 3 Level: A2/B3 Medium of Instruction: English Prerequisites: (Course Code and Title) SM D Animation I. Basic Precursors: (Course Code and Title) N.A Equivalent Courses: (Course Code and Title) N.A Exclusive Courses: (Course Code and Title) N.A Part II 1. Course Aims: This course aims at introducing classic animation principles from the North America and Japan to students, to motivate students to acquire and integrate those essential techniques in animated-contents creation. Echoing to 2D Animation I Basic, the course provides training and studies based on the learning from previous course. Students will be using digital tools in animation production, to combine traditional animation technique with latest digital solutions. The course also put strong emphasis on personal style development, thus to develop their own visual style. They will be learning analyzing skills, communication and presentation skills through critics and presentation, which help to convey their ideas using visual elements and to communicate with project team and production team effectively.
2 2. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (s) Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: No. s 1. Apply essential North American and Japanese animation principles into articulated character keyframe animation. 2. To create articulated character animation with applied knowledge in motion aesthetics. 3. Transits the tradition animation technique for operating digital animation tools effectively in producing digital 2D animation. 4. Able to design and manage production pipeline and workflow independently with good planning. Students should be able to finish animation project with reasonably good quality within a designated period of time. 5. Develop and apply personal animation style and to identify aesthetics approach. *6. Associate, combine and integrate knowledge from different disciplines (e.g. mathematics, sciences, literature etc.) into course assignments *Negotiated Learning Outcome (NLO) explicitly articulating the elements of Discovery oriented learning. 3. Teaching and learning Activities (TLAs) (designed to facilitate students achievement of the s) Indicative of likely activities and tasks students will undertake to learn in this course. Final details will be provided to students in their first week of attendance in this course. In-depth understanding of human body movement through acting and performance. Making animation with objective focus on single action. Review on Key-pose and Keyframing, with advanced approaches and solutions. Grading of Student Achievement: Refer to Grading of Courses in the Academic Regulations. 100 % coursework and in-class participation Grading Pattern: Standard (A+, A, A- F) Grading is based on performance in assessment tasks / activities. A. Participation and Performance This assessment task reviews students participation and performance in discussions, debates and peer critique during the tutorial sessions. The evidence of negotiation, the sign of discovery, lies in students pre-class preparation and interpersonal sensitivity to his/her peer members.
