1 BROADCAST SATELLITE SERVICES (BSS) Satellite Distribution (DVB-S Platforms)
2 Service Offering Digital satellite platforms on attractive orbital positions for DTH (Direct-to-Home) and non-dth-services (e.g. Direct-to-CATV headends). Digital TV- and radio programs as well as additional signals can be broadcasted (e.g. teletext, EPG). Technology based on the DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite) Standard and the MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) -Standard. Therefore a bandwidth of approx. 4 mbps (depending of the content) is sufficient to transmit a high-quality TV picture with stereo sound. For signal reception only a small parabolic antenna and a set-top box is required. Broadcast Satellite March 2014 page 2

4 Product description: standard components Signal reception Hand-over of the ready to be aired signal from the customer to MB at MB s Teleport in Usingen, approx. 35 km from Frankfurt/Main (Germany). Multiplexing Multiplexing component adds the SPTS (Single Program Transport Streams) to a common MPTS (Multiple Program Transport Stream) and completes this signal with the PSI (Program Specific Information) and PCR (Program Clock Reference) according the DVB-Standard. 5 Product description: standard components Ground segment Equipment of the satellite platform contains the baseband- and radio frequencyequipment (transmission path). Troubleshooting management Satellite Network Management Center (SNMC) provides around-the-clock customer hotline, monitoring and controlling for quality and security. MB service staff in Usingen is in charge of rapid trouble shooting. Space segment An allotted satellite frequency will be provided on the requested orbital position (details on the following pages).
