2 i ABSTRACT Title: BANGKO SENTRAL NG PlLIPINAS AND CHECK PRINTING BUSINESS Author: Nelson C. Bool Degree: Master in Business Administration Statement of the Problem Primarily, this study assessed the present state of government and private check printing business in the country focusing on the profile; problems on employees, production, and pricing; and the suggested solutions to the problems. Research Design The descriptive research design was used to answer the research problems and hypotheses posed at the beginning of the study. It focused on the profile, problems and suggested solutions of the BSP and the private check printing business. Primary data were gathered through the validated researcherconstructed questionnaire and were tallied, tabulated and subjected to appropriate statistical techniques, Findings 1. The profile of the government and private check printing business in terms: 1.1. length of operations; Majority of the respondents are in the check printing industry for the last 10 years only number of employees; and Majority of the respondents employ a maximum of 100 employees average number of clients. Majority of the respondents have an average of less than 11 clients in the last 3 years. 2. The problems affecting the check printing industry in terms of: 2.1. employees; BSP Difficulty in hiring knowledgeable employees and high labor turnover are the top 2 problems to a great extent. High wages/salaries and cost of training are problems to a moderate extent only.
3 PRIVATE. The high wagedsalaries given to employees is a problem to a moderate extent of the private check printing business and is perceived as the number 1 problem. Training cost is a problem to a little extent follows second production, and BSP The high cost of equipment for the check printing of the BSP is a problem to a great extent and is ranked 1. The long turn-round period are the results of aging equipment and the associated scarcity of equipment parts in the local and foreign market and are considered production problems to a great and moderate extent respectively. PRIVATE The high equipment cost is a problem to a great extent of the private check printing business and is ranked 1. The limited storage facility and aging equipment are problems to a moderate extent pricing? BSP The only problem to a great extent by the BSP is its present market share and is ranked 1. Pricing differentiation and increase operation cost are problems ranked 2 and 3 respectively but are problems to a little extent only. PRIVATE The volatile market share is a problem to a great extent of the private check printing business and is ranked 1. Increase in operation cost and pricing differentiation are problems to a little extent only and are ranked 2 and The significance of the difference in the problems affecting the private check printing in terms of the following when grouped according to length of operations, number of employees, and number of clients 3.1. employees; There is no significant difference in the problems affecting the private check printing in terms of employees when grouped according to length of operations, number of employees, and number of clients at.05 level of significance production; and There is no significant difference in the problems affeeing the private check printing in terms of production when grouped according to length of operations, number of employees, and number of clients at.05 level of significance.

There is no significant difference in the problems on pricing of BSP and private check printing business except for pricing differentiation and market share at.05 level of significance. 5. The suggested solutions to the problems of the check printing by the respondents. B SP The respondents agree on the following suggested solutions: highly competitive pricing, establishment of loyal clientele and acquisition of new machines are rank 2 and 3 respectively. Hiring of human resource specialist is perceived to be the solution to problems with employees and streamlining the operation are both rank 4.5 PRIVATE The respondents agree on the following two suggested solutions: establishment of loyal clientele and increase in employees salary/wage and benefits. 6. The significance of the difference in the suggested solutions of the private check printing business when grouped according to length of operations, number of employees, and average number of clients. There is no significant difference in the suggested solutions of the private check printing business when grouped according to length of operations, number of employees, and number of clients at.05 level of significance.
5 7. The significance of the difference in the suggested solutions of the respondents from government and private check printing business. There is a significant difference in the suggested solutions of the respondents from BSP and private check printing business except for conducting on-the-job training, outsourcing of second hand equipment, increase collection effectiveness, establish loyal clientele, and outsourcing local material at.05 level of significance. Conclusions 1. Majority of the respondents are in the check printing industry for the last 10 years only employing a maximum of 100 employees with an average of less than 1 I clients in the last 3 years. 2. The problems affecting the check printing industry in terms of 2.1. employees; Difficulty in hiring knowledgeable employees and high labor turnover are the top 2 problems on employees to a great extent of BSP while high wages/salaries given to employees is the problem to a moderate extent of the private check printing business production; and The high equipment cost and long turn-round period are the production problems to a great extent of BSP while that of private check printing business problem is high equipment cost only pricing? The current market is the only problem to a great extent and moderate extent of BSP and private check printing business respectively. 3. There is no significant difference in the problems on employees, production, and pricing affecting the private check printing business at.05 level of significance. 4. The significance of the difference in the problems affecting the government and the private check printing in terms of 4.1. employees; There is a significant difference in the problems on employees of BSP and private check printing business at.05 level of significance production; and There is a significant difference in the problems on production of BSP and private check printing business except high equipment cost and aging equipment at.05 level of significance.

The respondents from BSP agree on the following suggested solutions: highly competitive pricing, establishment of loyal clientele, acquisition of new equipment, hiring of human resource specialist, and streamlining the operation while the respondents kom private check printing business agree on the two solutions: establishment of loyal clientele and increase in employees salarytwage and benefits with the last solution being significantly different from BSP. 6. There is no significant difference in the suggested solutions of the private check printing at.05 level of significance. 7. There is a significant difference in the suggested solutions of the respondents from BSP and private check printing business at.05 level of significance.
